piratejpParticipantI’ve been wracking my brain for the last day trying to come up with a single Rudy Gay trade that might make sense…and I’ve got nothing. Does anyone in the league other than the Kings & Gay himself believe he’s not part of the problem in Sac? High-volume wings who barely defend and aren’t snipers from beyond the arc aren’t exactly in vogue right now.
Anyone got a Rudy Gay trade that makes sense? Can’t imagine the Kings want him around their young guys if they know he’s already checked out, so they’ve got to move him…but to where?
Maybe they can send a few more 1st round picks to Philly to take him off their hands (that’s sarcasm for those who can’t easily detect it btw).
…the never-ending tire fire that is the Sacramento Kings!

Jr. ROXASParticipantGay for Brandon Knight.
Kings have a hole at guard and Knight fills that well as he also complements Cousins. The Suns have a hole at the SF spot with Tucker injured too and Gay will be a nice veteran addition and fit.
Also, trading Knight will also make t clear for the Suns that they will now build around Bledsoe and Booker.

piratejpParticipantI’d take Knight for Gay; especially now. Good one.

kobyzParticipantKnight has much more value on the market, already better player than gay and he’s also on his way up… I think suns would be more willing to trade Bledsoe because his injury history but also that for a better package than only gay…

MatosParticipantAgreed. If they want to salvage Cousin’s loyalty, perhaps getting his old Kentucky teammate to join him will help take a step in that direction.

nick5354ParticipantKings would do that very quickly I think. As stated I think Knight has more value then that. He is still only 24 while Gay is about to hit 30. Knight also quietly had a 20/4/5 season albeit with medicore shooting numbers.
I’m not sure the Suns would want to trade a promsing young guard who posted a line of almost 20/4/5 for an almost 30 player who looks like he is just going through the motions and doesn’t really carry himself with much of drive or willingness to play at his best.

Robb_CParticipantRacking your brain all night?! You’re working harder looking for a move than Rudys Agent

piratejpParticipantI was cleaning the bathroom….seemed like the right time to think about the Kings.

TravelinTravParticipantI mentioned on a prior post that I wouldn’t trade Rubio from the Wolves however this trade is something I could see happening. I believe that Rubio would be a great fit in Sacramento and Gay would add depth and a veteran to the Wolves. I’m not sure what team would benefit more but it could be a win win.

SubZeroParticipantIf I were Minnesota, I wouldn’t want to be taking opportunities on the wing away from Wiggins and LaVine. If they’re looking for a veteran presence, they should look for one who won’t be searching for shots

WolfRisingParticipantI think you would obviously want to work out the next deal before giving up Rubio, or ask for one of their young bigs too. I wouldn’t want to give up minutes on the wing, but he would be a good matchup against small ball 4s, if he can hold up.

warson24If I were Doc Rivers I’d try to flip my son Austin (and some filler) to Sacto for Gay after Dec. 15.
As much as a garbage is Austin Rivers the Kings still can use him (which is sad) and they are maybe enough stupid to acquire him (which is also sad).0- Posted on: Thu, 09/22/2016 - 9:27am #1086650
piratejpParticipantHate to agree, but this is much more likely the kind of deal that’ll end up happening than anything useful like Rubio, Knight or Bledsoe coming back in return.
I think Divac is modeling himself on late-career Geoff Petrie: Accumulating mediocre players who are ridiculously overpaid, and completely failing to understand the value of a draft pick (much less any sembelance for how to maximize that value).
Maybe I should become a 76er fan…in a few years they’ll have several of the players the Tire Fires could have had were they not so stupid. I’ve been quietly rooting for the Warriors the past few years using the same logic.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNow that Middleton is likely going to be out for most of the year, Milwaukee might at least show some interest, especially if Sacramento would be willing to take back Monroe or mcw. Not a likely scenario, but it’s worth at least throwing it out there.

pokieParticipantBoston would be their best trade partner. The Celtics are guard heavy. The Kings just lost Rondo and Bellinelli. Moving, say, Terry Rozier and R.J. Hunter for Gay would increase minutes for Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown.
Minnesota could also work. Tyus Jones or Ricky Rubio could really help the Kings. You could add Shabazz Muhammad to free up minutes for Rudy and the remaining Wolves.

HitsterParticipantRudy has always been a consistent and durable scorer across his decade in the NBA and his contract is actually quite good value now. Rudy is probably one of the better current NBA players who have never made an All Star game. There is a rumour the ;Lakers may flip Nick Young and Lou Williams for him which would seem strange as they already have Deng, Randle and Ingram needing minutes at SF or PF.
One team which did occur to me was Houston as Gay’s scoring might appeal to Mike D’Antoni and under that system, he’d be a likely 20ppg plus player.

BKGingerSnapParticipantRudy gay is not valuable. he hurts any team’s performance overall. there is no chance in the future rudy gay will get better considering hes been in the league a decade and he relies on his athletisicm. Why would any team trade for rudy gay considering his current contract?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 09/25/2016 - 6:18am #1086726

HitsterParticipantRudy is duev $13.33 million this season and has a player option for $14.26 million next year. If he opted out, he’d be a one year rental, if he opted in then a team gets 2 years or has a nice expiring deal. A lot about Rudy’s decision next summer will depend how well he plays this year, he may think he can get a better deal or might take the guaranteed money and opt in and then look to get on a contender in 2018.
Rudy’s game may not improve but I wonder will it start to decline noticably in a few years as he seems a pretty consistent player and has played over 720 games in his decade in the NBA so is very durable.
0- Posted on: Mon, 09/26/2016 - 11:25pm #1086790

OhCanada-ParticipantHe’s gonna opt out. If his agent can’t get $14 million a year for 3-4 years in this market there’s something wrong with him.

binetParticipantThey have lots of injuries right now and seem in a weird spot where they were in the playoffs not long ago but look like they are never going back.
A Rudy Gay bet makes sense for them, at least as much and probably more than their Stephenson bet.
Rudy Gay’s value is close to zero right now anyway. They probably can have him for Philadelphia 2017 2nd rounder, that should be around #35. They might even get an Omer Asik contract absorption in return.
