Many people compare Ricky Rubio to Pistol Pete, but for me i just don’t see it. Pistol Pete was a shoot first point guard who did make some very spectacular passes in his day, but we are talking about a guy who averaged 44 ppg in his 4 year college career at LSU. To me Ricky Rubio is best compared to Jason Williams ( without the And 1 mentality ). Jason Williams made many spectacular passes too, was a solid starter and NBA champion in the league once he put his immature wreckless street ball tendencies behind him. I think Rubio has a lot of talent, but i just don’t see the Nash and Pistol Pete comparisons, He isn’t as developed on offense as either one of those players. To me Jason Williams with a more european mentality is the most accurate comparison. Who do you guys think is a good comparison for him sans Steve Nash and Pistol Pete?

The comparisons of Rubio to the Pistol are rediculous. Pete was one of greatest shooters of all time. Everyone knows Rubio can’t shoot for sh**t. Nash is also a far superior shooter than Rubio.

Bad defenders, bad shooters, 6’4, flashy passers and ball handlers, try to do too much when making passes, weak builds…

You think Rubio is gonna average 7-8 rpg like Kidd? Triple Double Machine like Kidd? That is ridiculous, they both aren’t great shooters and they are the same height i think that is where the comparison ends

Steve Nash wasn’t a great shooter when he first came into the league…

Ricky Rubio is not a good or a great defender but he does create turnovers. Whether or not that is a bad thing is based on your opinion… Allen Iverson has made a living going for steals and being a bad defender, yet he’s considered one of the best in the game (or at least was)

I definitely like the Jason Williams comparison cuz I think Rubio is a bit reckless but I think that Rubio is much taller than J Will

If Rubio sucks… international prospects will probably begin to be taken even lower.

Darko, Aleksander Radovich, Nikolas Tskitshvilli, Fredrick Wiess, he wouldn’t be the first international to bust if he does

Rubio will not be a bust. He should be a quality Euro player in the mold of Jose Calderon, both Gasols, and Rudy Ferndanez. He has some decent physical gifts so defense may not be a problem except for dealing with stronger players and that takes time for him to work on that. His playmaking skills are NBA ready. He does not have terrible form on his jumper so he can become a solid shooter if he works on it.

    Honestly,

Ricky Rubio will probably be different than most other players in the league, and in a few years, we will see his name coming up in comparrisons because he is so different. He might be more like a weaker, yet faster (and much younger) version of Andre Miller. Good set up guy, who will probably run more, but also will be weaker in the lane.

Jooks, he cannot be compared to Kidd. Kidd’s skills emerge from both his speed, size and strength. Rubio has his height, and maybe to some extent his speed, but Kidd would tie the Kid in a monkeyfist knot if they ever fought for a rebound.

Im telling you! I know I couldnt be the only 1..And yea I watched the game when Rubio’s squad played Brandon Jennings and that squad on NBA TV. That was the only thing I had to go by besides the Olympics when trying to see how Rubio played and Jennings outplayed him that game.

heres the problem for me . when comparing Rubio to J-Will yes they both make some crazy passes but J-Will couldnt run a half court offense till he was almost 25 Rubio is great at running a half court offense especially the pick n roll. half thempass J-Will made were on the fast break in open court situations , and Rubio is known for his uncanny IQ while J-wills B-Ball IQ was the size of a peanut.
I like the Nash comparison because they were born to play the pg in the NBA . Nash outsmarts everyone at his level and soo does Rubio , hey have everything in common but Rubio is a bit more athletic and Nash shoots way better. and Rubio can still develop on O
