McWinningParticipanthe has to grow up but hes only 18, he still has tons of talent but all the overseas stuff has made us forget how good he is. i think he could be like a 1-2 time allstar not as good as Kidd, or Nash, but a good player.

JNixonParticipantI dont get why he couldnt just get an endorsement deal and pay off the deal that way. I dont get it…

QHaynes20I dont like him now. He just lured everyone in and shook us by staying overseas…not cool. I hope he stays overseas.

BasketballGuru24ParticipantI Don’t Care were this guy went……he would have been a pretty bad player in minny since they suck, his whole game would have been slowed down . Its not like kobe or lebron took left

MagikKnickParticipantWell, by doing this hes basically saying, i’ll be back in 2 years…
keep in mind, he’ll only be 20I honestly was never the biggest fan of his, always thought he was overrated
but still a good playerBut hey, you never know
He can comeback shooting like Larry Bird, defending like Battier, and passing like Maravich0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 4:57pm #197623
Michael.S.Participantyeah he will be back IN 2 YEARS, who the hell want’s to wait 2 years to see him play ? we were seeing the hype and glimpses of greatness on u-tube all year, now 2 more years, forget him

JNixonParticipantYea Im not a Rubio guy anyway, but I think he couldve made everything easier if he REALLY wanted to play in the NBA.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 5:11pm #197636

MagikKnickParticipantYeah, he shouldve just waited for his contract to expire, and THEN enter the draft…(2011)
But, also..i think its also his fault, I think if he showed interest in Memphis they would of drafted him
And if he got drafted top 3 then his buyout would have been taken care ofWheres RickyRubio9 when you need him!

los507ParticipantI think it’s time to do something about this problem, I see that foreign players will do this more and more. They can afford to play with GM’s emotions under the current set up, you could really waste a high draft pick on a guy that could hold your franchise hostage by saying he wants to play in a bigger market and he won’t come over unless you trade him.First Fran Vaquez, then Yi trying and eventually getting traded to a bigger market, and now Rubio is playing a similar game. Maybe there should be another form of draft for internationals or the league should slack up on how much a team can pony up for player buyouts.Because to be honest there are’nt that many very good international players that are young that make big impacts on the game now and that will change. This will become a huge problem when you see more American players go overseas as highschoolers or using the Jennings approach those guys will have the same leverage if not more.Sorry didn’t mean to go off just tired of the games that have been played by the Rubio camp,I hope for his sake he is what we have been led to believe.

QHaynes20No Offense, but that’s why I do not like Drafting foreign players man, it’s a terrible risk and these guys have too much leverage.
Another guy to mention is Tiago Splitter….

JNixonParticipantI agree 1000%. I honestly wouldnt ever draft an international guy, unless they were a true “cant-miss” player. Like a Lebron James level cant miss. They try to play games with GM’s about where they want to play. Its not free agency, its the draft. YOU GO WHERE YOU GET PICKED!

Bryant24Participantbut rubio is overrated in my opinion he dosent play nba talent overseas he hasnt prove anything to me i would take stephen curry, johnny flynn, ty lawson, and even jrue holiday over him nothing about his game wows me he can pass okay well sergio rodrigruez could pass look how his nba game is going i hate when international players get overhyped being called the next dirk the next toni kukoc and most of them dont live up to it i agree with iguodala9 i honestly want take a international player unless he is a cant miss talent and none of them are lately. this is just my opinion.

RickyRubio9Participantlol. Sorry man, I’ve been busy and it doesn’t help that my laptop is messing up on me.
Wow, that story? The Team’s Twitter Account? I don’t buy it…Sorry
If it were his Twitter Account or something, but after they said, “It’s obvious Ricky is no longer going to be on our team and we wish him luck” and Ricky saying he didn’t like the way they treated him and most likely won’t be back. I just don’t believe it. Too short of a story too, but eh who knows. BTW. Ok…I believe his rookie contract would be something like 3 Million per year and only some is guaranteed. His buyout would cost 6.6 Million. Since his rookie deal won’t have all guaranteed he can’t pay it off just using that. Then he has endorsements with Gilette now and he has made two commercials, but seriously…You think they pay him that much??? Plus the 500,000 the T-Wolves can pay. C’mon now. I’ve only seen his commercial on TV ONCE! I know I am a fan and defending him, but you guys act like he actually said he didn’t want to play in Memphis and whatnot when his agent and family did all the talking. No one has said “Ricky said this” just his parents or camp. I don’t know what else to say…I will be plenty sad to see him stay overseas. He has already declined two rather large deals with a good amount of money because he doesn’t want a long contract. So give him a break…he could just stay and make a butt load of money instead of coming over to the States. His dream is the NBA…and even if it’s two years he’ll be 20 Years Old. That’s all I will say…0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 6:28pm #197679
the barronParticipantI think two years is enough team for the T-Wolves to see how Johnny Flynn develops. If Flynn is the next D-Rose than they won’t be in a hurry for Rubio, but if Flynn turns out to be another Sebastian Telfair than those two years will seem like forever.

SpencerIsHawesomeIf Minny really badly wanted Rubio here now, they would not have drafted Flynn too. They knew what they were getting into and I think they preferred him in Spain for 2 years. If the Kings took Rubio or Minny drafted DeRozan or Hill instead of Flynn, I have a feeling he would be in the NBA.

QHaynes20Khan drafted both because he felt they can play together

KevinDurantRocksParticipantReminds me of how the Magic drafted a international player and he never comes over
0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/07/2009 - 7:10pm #197693

MagikKnickParticipantI still dont get that concept, on how 2 pass first PGs can work together, some may argue Flynn being pass first, but he is..
If it was like 2 score first PGs then thats a different story, but Flynn and Rubio on the same squad? Not so much..

SpencerIsHawesomeDon’t listen to that clown. He knows as well as everyone in the world who knows basketball knows that Flynn and Rubio in no way can play together.

Meditated StatesParticipantand Flynn would be a bad backcourt to me with defensive liabilities. Rubio is overhyped, not saying he is garbage. I think he will be a good NBA player, but not a great one. I also think this whole thing would have gone differently if they would not have grabbed Flynn. He would not have beat Flynn out for that job and him and his people were scared of how that would have looked.
