qDizzle32ParticipantAfter announcing they have signed Orlando Johnson earlier today, they have also announced that they are expected to sign Royce White to a 10 day contract. As a Kings fan, I’m not so sure about this. First of all, they already have to deal with running a team with Demarcus Cousins then adding Royce White, makes it a pain in the ass times 2. Even though the Rockets and 76ers were willing to provide a bus for him, the Kings obviously knew what they were going to have to deal with knowing they would have to provide a lot of things with him. He showed lots of talent prior to the draft but he did not even play very impressive for the Rockets D-League franchise last year neither did he in the preseason prior to getting cut by the 76ers. They signed a new backup SG for McLemore by adding Orlando Johnson and not very sure about needing another backup forward while already having Williams, Landry, Acy and Outlaw coming off the bench. I was a fan of White’s game during his time at Iowa State and hopefully he could overcome his bad reputation he’s given himself without playing one regular season game almost 2 years after being drafted.

King CaluchaParticipantI think Orlando Johnson could become a solid player off the bench for them.
On the other hand, Royce White… (sigh and rolling eyes) well I suppose as a 10-day contract it’s worth a shot. The skillset is there… he just needs conditioning and a way better attitude.

JordoParticipantthis may be his last shot. You were drafted less than 2 years ago, never played in a real game, been traded and waived, now on a 10 day contract. At this point it’s time to put up or shut up or in his case cry on twitter.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantand technically send him to the D League every time they go on the road. It can’t be principle because unlike baseball minor league the NBA salary is the same. So any player sent to the D League is getting NBA money and its rookies and 2nd round picks spending whole seasons there.

tomdukes69ParticipantIts just a 10 day contract. A tryout to see what he can bring to the table to finish off season.

SwatLakeCityParticipantFrom a player standpoint that would be kind of confusing. Imagine saying the following to Royce White, "This week we have 2 home games, and then we go on a six game road trip. Because of your inabilty to fly on a plane, we are going to send you to the D-league for that 6 game road trip, then in two weeks when we come back home we’ll let you play again with us. How does that sound to you?" And then repeating it whenever the team goes on the road. That would be kind of odd, and not too mention, how would that look from a player’s standpoint and eventually to the coach and the rest of the team?
I’m a college student and there is something we call "Learned Helplessness" which is what I believe Royce White has. He has learned that because of his inability to fly planes, he can just go through the league and play whenever he wants to (whenever the team is at home) And he is fine with that, but he isn’t learning anything, or improving as a player by only playing in the home games. I can see why the Rockets and the 76ers didn’t want to play him at all (regardless if they were on the road or at home.) Eventually as a team player and the coach, you want to be fair to the rest of the team, you want White to improve, and in order for that to happen, he has to learn that traveling is a part of the NBA, so if he wants to stay in the league then he will have to get over his fear of flying. He can not just go to the D-league for every road game. If I were in his shoes I would get tired of that kind of schedule, and it’s not healthy for the team, and it would certainly drive any coach mad.
So I’m okay with the Kings signing White to a 10-day contract. He is talented player, and hopefully he has learned that he has to put up or shut up if he wants to stay in the NBA or even the D-league. Its only 10 days, I’m sure the Kings will assess at the end of those 10 days and see if its worth it to have to deal with his attitude or not. As a fan of the NBA, I hope he has learned his lesson and decides to put up but from a realistic standpoint my gut is telling me that’s all this contract will last, just 10 days. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Pack AttackParticipantHard to see this situation ending any differently to his last two stops. All the best to him but this is probably his last shot.

McDunkinDude could be a walking advertisement for Xanax if he is finally able to fly.
I’m shocked that the Philadelphia tankers didn’t think of this.

220ParticipantI must admit I’m surprised. I thought Royce White’s NBA chances were done. If he’s smart he clings to this opportunity like a man lost at sea clings to debris. He needs to work hard, keep his mouth shut, and his fingers away from twitter.

TyroberParticipantAfter the way he acted last time I am completely shocked someone would even offer a 10day contract. We all know he has problems, but he handled the situation about as poorly as he could have with the Rockets.

Scott42444ParticipantI personally wouldn’t waste my time with this guy unless he has bent over backwards to show me that he has taken MASSIVE steps to improve his anxiety disorder. He was the opposite of Jackie Robinson, where he might have turned teams OFF of signing or drafting players with anxiety disorders based on his childish behavior and lack of production. Daryl Morey jokes that White was the worst draft pick in history since he never played a second for the Rockets. He wouldn’t go that route unless he felt like his hand was forced. I understand mental illness and I like to think I understand it VERY well. There is a give and take required in a situation of the "patient" and the "support". The support is expected to give some space and special treatment. The patient is required to take responsibility for his actions. They might make the same mistake over and over, but they STILL have to accept responsibility for those actions. Maybe they were in a highly manic state, which sometimes makes people drink, spend money like crazy or gamble, have increased sexual liasons, partake in dangerous activities, etc. That is something that Royce’s support system would in theory be able to accept as long as he is willing to accept that the behavior was wrong. Bad mouthing everyone in the Rockets and 76ers organizations on Twitter every chance he got was wrong. You don’t speak about your boss or your employer/company that way in a public forum. If he has taken the steps to limit those interactions I think a team could take a flier on him. Of course, and I have been giving the Kings A LOT of credit lately since their new owners took them over, but of course the Kings just seem like the LAST team that should take a chance on a young headcase like this. I hope it works out, though. I would love for them to get about the 11th pick in the 2015 Draft so my Bulls can get another pick in the loaded 2015 draft (via the Luol Deng theft, I mean trade). Now, if only the Cavs become the 8th seed in the 2015 playoffs (and the Bulls have one of the top records in the league) and they can have 2 drafts in a row with 2 picks in the #10 – #20 range by trading Tyrus Thomas and 4 months of Luol Deng. That’s how you create assets!
