that’s unfortunate, he was with the Rockets in summer league so he obviously traveled to vegas with the team… not too sure what this is about but McHale didn’t seem very pleased

Because it’s just THAT easy to get over a debilitating anxiety disorder.. Please.

I’m sure he’ll continue get the help he needs to fight this disorder and I hope he overcomes this obstacle in his life. There are a lot of people out there who suffer from this same exact thing, and for Royce to show people that you don’t need to be held captive by your fears is a truly inspiring story in and of itself.

Nobody said it was going to be an easy journey for this guy. And nobody said he’d be a surefire star. But hell, I’m rooting for him like crazy. If he can get past this monkey on his back, what can’t he accomplish?

I actually have an anxiety disorder, so i understand what he’s going threw to an extent. My comment was more out of frustration because i don’t want to see him waste this chance that most only dream about. I have nothing but well wishes for him.

    Oh, yeah I understand, man.

It’s going to be a difficult transition, I’m sure. I’m not going to worry too much unless he continues to miss time. That’s when he’ll start falling behind and miss out on playing time/growth as a player, etc.

half his salary to just play home games? Maybe let him bus it to SA and Dal, NO and maybe OKC.

You’ve got to know about this when you draft him.

As disappointing as this is, it’s hardly surprising. I’m not really sure what they were expecting to happen, anxiety disorders don’t just go away because you have more reason to push past it, in fact that can make it even worse by adding inappropriate guilt to the symptoms.

I have all the sympathy in the world for Royce and other people with mental disorders, but the odds of White being able to handle the jet-setting lifestyle of the NBA anytime soon are pretty slim, and from a purely basketball standpoint the Rockets made a mistake taking him in the mid first round.

I think it’s crazy that reports of a bad knee dropped Perry Jones to the Thunder, but an inability to fly was seen as less of a red flag. It just goes to show that it’s going to take a lot longer before people start to recognise a psychological disorder can be just as debilitating as a physical ailment.

Man… My heart goes out to this kid and I wish him the best. I have a family member who struggles with a mental illness and it’s NOT EASY… It’s been a big big big struggle for him to accept and deal with. There are different levels of a disorder.

I hope White makes it because it would send a message to people with mental disorders that you STILL can be successful and live your dream.

Nothing good comes from not communicating. He was wrong to hang his team and employer out by not letting them know where he was. He gave a very nice explanation of what he is trying to do and work through, but he has to show up. Hopefully, he will be at their practice this afternoon. On a team with 57 forwards, it isn’t going to take long to drop down the depth chart.

    ——————

    McAllen –
The Rockets announced that rookie forward Royce White is not with the club in McAllen for training camp because of "personal matters."

White also did not attend the club’s media day on Monday for the same reasons.

He told FOX 26 Sports the personal matters are related to the fact that he suffers from anxiety issues.

"We are trying to figure out a plan for me to be healthy and successful long-term," White said. "It’s not really anything that’s going on right now. It’s more of trying to take a pro-active approach and trying to put together a solid plan.

"It is definitely linked with my anxiety sure, but it’s not so much as far as my anxiety now. Basically what happened was my doctor, we discussed it, and it was decided the way the plan was now just wasn’t logistically healthy.

"So what can we do strategically to try and improve the chances of everybody being successful in this situation, my success and the Rockets success? If I fail then that’s not good for them either, because it’s an investment."

White said he did not know how long it would take before he rejoined the team.

"We are committed to Royce’s long term success and we will continue to support him now and going forward," said Daryl Morey, Rockets general manager, in a statement released by the team.
