Mr. 19134ParticipantThat almost convinced Westbrook is better because they’re offensive numbers arent that far apart but Wes played on a team with KD while Rose was able to get more shots. And there is no double teaming PG’s that just means they’re assists totals go up. But Westbrook has more assists, also because of KD tho. But defense is really what separates these 2. Westbrook is a lock down defender while Rose isn’t a liability, but he isn’t even a threat in passing lanes how are you that fast, and long and you can’t even average one effin steal?

MelParticipantI love these two players. Its great how Rose and Westbrook came in together like Paul/Williams … Melo/James.. and soon Evans/Jennings..
I think they are two different kinds of point guards. Rose has had to score more for his team and Westbrook has had the most prolific scorer in the league to pass to.
I think Rose can pass and create but Westbrook is a better creator right now in their respective careers. Rose is more polished offensively but at this point it is very hard to tell who is betters. You cant go wrong with either in my opinion

Toronto16ParticipantI like them both but I think its Derrick Rose by far. Could you imagine Rose and Durant on the same squad?

MkadozaParticipantThe interesting thing about comparing these two is that their role is as different as two point guards can be. Rose is/was the unquestioned #1 ball handler, creator and scoring option, while Westbrook has the task of playing a devastating two man game with Durant. Westbrook is the better defender as of now, but don’t be surprised if Rose works himself into a great defender in the near future. I personally would take Rose, but its more than understandable if someone prefers Westbrook.
I feel like I’ve said this before…

Mr. ChicagoParticipantI couldn’t agree more. Rose finally has a reliable low post option to pass to and some shooters on the wing. And I think his defense can do nothing but improve especially under the tutiledge of Tom Thibodeau.
However, especially on the Olympic team, Westbrook is develpoing into one of the top point guards in the league.
I really like what Mel said. I like the dichotomy with these two coming into the league together. I think it really helps the NBA.

NJHooper95ParticipantThe both are great guards, but I think that right now they are better athletes than point guards. Both of them are suspect with the jumper. Neither has great court vision. Rose and Westbrook are both average passers. Rose didnt average that many assist at memphis with 1st team all-america CDR. Westbrook get his assists from transition and Durant. Sometimes averaging alot of assist doesnt mean you are a great passer, other elements can raise your assist average. Still, they dont possess that instinctive ability to make a pass like a kidd, nash, D Williams, Paul, even Jennings has good court vision, though he put up alot of shots this season.Yet the abilities that they have you cant teach and they have great potential, Westbrook gets the nod because of defense, but Rose maybe the more dynamic player.

dolla130ParticipantRose wasn’t quite spectacular, averaging 7.2 points and coming in for some questioning after playing just 12 minutes in Saturday’s semifinal and shooting zero for four He was supposed to be a ball distributor and led the team in assists. You can’t score 20 points on four shots. Playing with chicago his role is different. I do agree he’s nowhere near being a three point shooter yet despite his pre tourney comments exuding confidence in long distance shooting. But his defense was better. He was fourth on the team in steals and his overall shooting was better than Chauncey Billups and Stephen Curry, tied with Eric Gordon and barely behind Russell Westbrook. It’s laughable to say he can’t shoot when we’ve watched him make huge shots since that Boston playoff series in 2009. Though he’s not that three point threat yet and I can’t see it this season quite yet. This is an instant world more than ever. The last thing everyone saw is the best thing. Makes them seem more important. Westbrook was in a good role for him, coming in and attacking and slashing. And he did some good stuff. He’s a good player you’d love to have. Rose was in a more inhibited role, and USA teams are all about sticking to your role. I am quite confident Oklahoma City would give you Westbrook in a second for Rose. And probably throw in Jeff Green. That said, these teams are about role players fitting as well. A lot will go on between now and 2012 and the team could choose Westbrook for his energy or defense or utility, though if you watch him on a regular basis, as I did last season, you know he’s not much of a point guard. If the USA team were to pass on Rose in two years they’d be leaving home at that time perhaps the league’s best point guard, but that would be their choice, and always possible given Chris Paul and Deron Williams have seniority from playing on the 2008 team.

MelParticipantI see how people can say RW looked great in FIBA and Rose didn’t really play that well. But I wouldn’t look to deep into those games. Westbrook didnt do anything he hasnt been doing in the NBA. He NEEDS to start making his mid-range jump shots like Rose has started to do.
No one played that great in FIBA but Durant, RW, and Eric Gordon. They defended well but this season should tell us who’s better. Rose has his options now its time for him to make plays
