I remember reading a post a few months ago that stated Russell Westbrook was better than Derrick Rose and I was just wondering if the feelings have changed as the season has progressed.

Rose is better than Westbrook, and more athletic…it has always been pretty obvious to me.

Rose did a nasty jam at the end of the game. I like his progression, give him a All-Star berth, coaches. I will love to see Rose play with Wade, give Chicago fans a future look at the duo.

Derrick Rose RIGHT NOW is the best PG in the NBA.

    ^Thats a bit of a stretch, imo

But Rose is definetly better than Westbrook, Rose has the ability to take over games, i dont think Westbrook has that ability yet, and thats just one of the many differences that make Rose the better player

i’ve always thought rose was better then westbrook. I think rose could enter the onversation with chris paul in another year or two. But he’s clearly not better then paul right now and might not be better then DWill or nash either. I’m curious who you guys thin is better right now between rose and rondo?

I appreciate the feedback on the subject, and I never doubted derricks ability on the court. Earlier in the season when the thunder and the bulls played Westbrook had a better statisical game then Rose and there was a thread where people said Westbrook was the better player(which I found comical to the point of tears) I will find it and post later. Those were people I was originally adressing.

i wouldn’t say it is comical to the point of tears, especially considering that westbrook probably was outplaying rose early on. But rose is the better player and it just took him time to come off the ankle injury and get his groove back. I think as their careers go on, the gap between the two will only grow bigger with rose continuing to pull away from russell.

Westbrook was outplaying Rose at the beginning of the season, now its the other way around.
But Westbrook isnt playing bad, Rose is just playing very well.
I wouldnt say that one is much better than the other, its a toss up to me.
One could say Rose and i wouldnt argue, one could say Westbrook and I wouldnt argue.

And neither one will pull away from the otehr I dont think, i think they will stay close throughout their careers.

And for the person who asked.
Rondo is better, Rondo is the best pg in the east.
If he had a jumper, he’d be right there with CP3 for the best.

Well…if your asking who is better between Rose and Rondo now, it’s Rose…If you want a pg that doesn’t have to take over games and just facilitate it’s Rondo….If you want a pg that you can bulid around in the future it’s Rose….Who will be better in the future?Rose.

I think a good comparison between the two in the years to come is Westbrook= Billups and Rose=Paul.
Paul is without question a better player than Billups, but Billups is respected as a top 10 PG that wins games against anybody with his takeover ability. Billups is also a good comparison because he is mysteriously routinely overlooked even though everyone recognizes he is a top tier point.

Not taking away anything from Westbrook, but I’ve ALWAYS thought Rose was better. He’s the better point guard, player and he’s more athletic. He was better than Westbrook in college and he’s been better than Westbrook in the NBA. He’s outplayed Westbrook in every single game they’ve faced since college, except one.

The ONLY reason Westbrook was playing better at the beginning of the season was because Rose was injured. Now Rose is healthy and we’re seeing exactly what he can do. He can take over games and there’s nobody who can stay in front of him. You get too close… He goes past you and finishes in the lane. You back off and he drains that mid-range jumper. He’s really answered those critics who said “he doesn’t have the killer instinct” to take over games. He’s shown the makings of becoming a number one option. He plays within the flow of the game, is still unselfish and kicks the ball out to his teammates.

As I’ve always said… I’d take Rose going forward over any other point guard not name CP3 or D-Will.

i agree with everything tezo said. If he get’s that mid range jumper on lock, he should be competing with paul for best pg in another season or two. And as a bruin fan who watched rose knock my team out of the final 4, i can promise you there is no reason for bias on this one. Westbrook will be great in his own regard and maybe even an all-star, but rose just has the ability to take over games more.

rtbt, why would you include DWill but not CP3 for best young pg’s? They entered the league at the same time.

Llperez22, he is clearly a top 5 PG. Although Chris Paul is fantastic, he has yet to impress me that he’s the kind of leader that Deron Williams and Derrick Rose are. Both of them proved to me they are great leaders in terms of how they control the game and that’s mandatory if you are to be described as an elite NBA PG.

Obviously Chris Paul is every bit as talented as Deron Williams and Derrick Rose. But until I’m convinced that Chris Paul ranks up there with those guys as a leader who can control the flow of a game, Rose and Williams are the two best on my list. That doesn’t mean Chris Paul is far behind, but someone has to be at the top.

Topics like these are always interesting, but I always say you must first define what you mean by “best”. From my perspective, best depends upon his teammates and what they need from their PG. In the absence of that information, choosing the best can never be an absolute choice.

I think the two best “young” PGs in the league are Deron Williams and Derrick Rose. Which one would I choose? It all depends on the structure and design of my team. If you have a team that needs a pass first PG, but a guy who can still keep the defense honest with his offense, then I would go with Deron Williams. However, if you have a team like Chicago, that needs lots of offense from it’s PG, then I would go with Derrick Rose.

But in the end, as much as I respect Derrick Rose, I always prefer a pass first PG. So if I was forced to make a choice without first establishing what kind of team, I would go with Deron Williams because I love the way he plays the game.

Let me repeat, this is in no way a knock on Rose because he’s obviously one of the top 2 PGs in the league and truly an elite player. Rose is an excellent passer, but his real strength is being a major force on offense in terms of taking over the game. There is nothing wrong with that, but for me I prefer the way Deron Williams plays the game.

As for Chris Paul, I am withholding final judgment on him because as talented as he is, I’m not convinced he’s the kind of leader that Rose and Williams are.

As for Westbrook, I don’t think he’s ready to be described as one of the elite PGs in the game. He might be one day, but not yet.

I think Rose is the better player and PG, but he was being outplayed by Westbrook up until this month probably…

I would take Rondo over both of them personally and I think that Rose is only a better shooter than him. Alot of people are still sleeping on him, but if you watch him play he’s the best player on that Celtics team and he’s shown the ability to take over games when he’s needed too (injuries, and teammate ineffectiveness).

wow rtbt, cp3 is the best pg in the game, and you think he is not on rose’s or Dwill’s level? I’m guessing you are part of a very small minority on that one.

Llperez22, that’s why we have a thread like this, so people can express their personal opinions. I thought I made it very clear that I don’t think there’s a great deal of difference in the talent level of these 3 guys. But as stated above, based upon what I’ve seen, I think Rose and Williams are better team leaders and they control the game in a manner that I prefer. That’s what personal opinions are all about.

I am in no way saying Chris Paul isn’t a great PG. As I said before, he’s a fantastic talent, and if you go only by his numbers, most people would probably agree that he’s the best. And I’m not saying he can’t be number one, he just hasn’t proven it to me. Believe me Llperez22, I would take any one of these 3 as my PG and feel confident I could win an NBA championship.

why are you getting defensive? You said he was not as good as them and i questioned you on that, that is what chat sites are about, to discuss different opinions and occasionally defend them.

Llperez22, I don’t think I was being defensive. You said I was part of a very small minority. I in turn said I was simply stating that’s why we have these kinds of discussions, so everyone can express their opinion. If everyone agreed with the majority, sites like these would be very boring.

It was nothing more than a comment about discussion websites in general. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding and I still don’t understand why you thought that I was taking a defensive stance.

I was also trying to clarify even though I like Deron Williams and Derrick Rose more, I still think Chris Paul is a great PG,

well you pointing out that this is a web site that allows different opinions and that you thought you made yourself very clear, that sounds to me like you were being defensive. I’m well aware we are entitled to different opinions and i’m well aware of what you said. I don’t remeind everyone who disagrees with me that I’m allowed to think how i like. If i did, then i’m sure people would think i was being defensive too instead of just having a debate with them.

Anyways, we’ll many times i disagree with people, but can understand where they are coming from, on this one, I really can’t see your side at all. CP3 had led his team with not much help to the playoffs, so I’m not sure why you think he doesn’t show the same leadership. Right now, he is number 1 and everyone else is playing catch up, not the other way around, In my humble opinion.

As I stated in my previous message, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. But from my perspective, I was simply trying to make a point that I know I’m in a small minority and those kind of opinions make discussion sites interesting. It certainly wasn’t intended as a me against you type of comment because I have a lot of respect for your opinions.

I think it’s fairly obvious that we disagree on this issue. If I had to choose a PG, I would go with Deron Williams, than Derrick Rose, and Chris Paul would be 3rd on that list. Here’s why I feel this way.

When I watched New Orleans games, Paul’s numbers were outstanding and he would make the kind of shots that made me say, “Wow! But over the course of the playoffs, despite those fantastic shots, I never felt as if he controlled the game in the same manner that Derrick Rose did in their playoff series with Boston. I mean Rose was flat out riveting as you knew he was the Chicago offense and he almost brought his team to the point of taking down a vastly superior opponent.

And when I watch Deron Williams play with Utah, I get the feeling that he controls not only his team, but the flow of the game itself, and that impresses me.

I can’t put my finger on why, but despite his immense talent, I don’t get that same feeling when I watch Chris Paul.

    umm what?

Cp3 is clearly the best pg in the game, and its not close.
