The Lakers are trying to contend this year, not interested as much in expiring contracts, and even tho Ron Ron has been playing like garbage, Battier (8.6 and 4.8) wouldn’t be a significant upgrade.
Suns
Hill has been significantly better than Artest this year and has a shorter, cheaper contract so that alone might make it worth it, although he is very, very old. They could definitely use Dudley, another shooter.
6ers
Philly is either getting a borderline star, prospects or expiring contracts for Iggy. No way they’re taking Artest, Barnes and Brown.
Nuggets
Honestly, I just don’t see it happening. This is a better deal talent-wise than they’d get from NY, but they want prospects and exiring contracts, and get none of that in this. There’s a very real possibility that Bynum could continue to struggle with injuries, Artest could continue to suck and Brown would not mesh well with J.R. Smith.

mikeyvthedonParticipantBenefit the Lakers far more than any of the trade counterparts, so I would not do any of them. Their is a reason Rasheed Wallace trades and Pau Gasol trades do not happen a lot in the NBA, and it is that both teams need to feel the trade is beneficial. Right now, I do not know a lot of teams that would want Ron Artest for their marquee players or role players. Plus, I have a feeling that Ron Artest will stay a Laker and start playing better. The Rockets probably do not want him back, the Suns will not give up Hill or Dudley, the 76ers will want more from Andre and the Nuggets are not going to trade Melo to the Lakers.

Nobody is trading a young borderline star for Artest. He’s getting up there in age, is having a horrible year, and still has a couple of years left in his contract. Plus, the 76ers need some big men, not more swingmen.
Nuggets
Melo wants to play in NY and he’s pretty much made up his mind. I don’t think Bynum can stay healthy enough to seem like a franchise player nor a good building block for a rebuilding team.
Rockets
I actually like this trade. At this point, Battier is probably a better defender than Artest. He’s just as hard a worker but without the attitude or drama or self brought attention. He’s a more consistent shooter and better rebounder. Also, with that expiring deal, they could resign him in the offseason for pretty cheap. Ron Artest gets a fresh start with the Rockets where he goes from a spot up shooter in LA to a 3rd option scorer in Houston. We know Artest can score and at this point, Houston needs another scorer.
Suns
It’s not a bad deal for the Suns. Players always seem to reignite their careers in Phoenix and the back court of Nash + Carter is very good, add 2 decent centers in Lopez and Gortat, 2 versatile power forwards in Warrick and Frye and you have yourself a good team. All that without mentioning you get a very good defender and scorer in Artest.
