Ashlyn Horry, the 17-year-old daughter of former NBA player Robert Horry, died today from “severe respiratory issues and a host of other complications requiring a six month stay in Texas Childrens Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,” according to a report posted on Black Sports Online.
Ashlyn underwent numerous tests and multiple surgeries, according to the report, and nearly died on several other occasions. She was diagnosed with a chromosome abnormality so rare it did not even have name.
Robert Horry played for 15 seasons in the NBA on four different teams — the Rockets, Suns, Lakers and Spurs. He was on seven championship teams — two in Houston, three in L.A. and two in San Antonio

IndianaBasketballParticipantA chromosome abnormality? That’s crazy. The disease sounds so insane, that’s it’s a blessing she was able to live for 17 years…
My heart goes out to the Horry family. A parent’s worst nightmare is to lose a child.

aamir543ParticipantAll my well wishes goes out to the Horry family. Unfortunatly, things like this happen, and we cant do any thing abput it. But I am still willing to bet that even if Horry has never taken mediacal courses, he could still perform open heart surgery sucesfully as long as he is under pressure.

IndianaBasketballParticipantMakes you not want to complain… Always somebody out there going through something worse than you are.
I was complaining and really down about my knee after having surgery to repair a torn ACL. I caught a blood clot… Have to take blood thinners for six months. Needed help getting in the shower… Needed help just getting my leg on and off of the bed. On crutches for weeks and weeks. Crazy pain. Couldn’t bend my knee… Range of motion was terrible. Had scar tissue that felt worse than the actual injury when ripping it during physical therapy. I was upset and sad… Until I went to the hospital and saw a soldier who’d returned from Iraq and had lost both of his legs. I stopped complaining real quick and was thankful I’d be walking again.
Makes you just appreciate your life even though it may not be as perfect as you’d like.
