He was terrible during preseason play and James Young started to show flashes thus making Hunter the odd man out…

I still think he has a role to play in the NBA, he just got drafted to a Team loaded with Guards…

I’d love to the 76ers swoop down and claim him off Waivers, Joel and Jahlil could use anyone who can shoot the 3 ball

Sixers have first dibs on the waiver wire.  They should pick him up as he would fit well spreading the floor for Simmons, Saric, Okafor, and Embiid.  I’d like to see what RJ can do with a bigger role like he would have in Philly.

If I’m the 6ers, I’d grab Hunter off the waiver wire and give up a 2nd rounder (the supposed asking price) for Tyus Jones. Still a terrible guard rotation, but it’s better from 3.

He was dreadful during preseason play, you’re right…

But at the very least he could provide some much-needed competition to Stauskas… He can’t be any worse than him, right?!

Should of been a no brainer. Both Young and Hunter had there ups and downs from th Summer League and the preason, but ultimately Young played better than Hunter and showed more awareness on the defensive end. Young also being 2 years younger plus having more potential also had to play a role. Its going to be interesting to see if my Cs pickup his 3rd year option or if he ever turns out to be a quality player.

Danny Ainge told Young "this is probably the first time you’ve earned something in your life".  It’s crazy that entering his 3rd season he’s still 2 years younger than Hunter and a year younger than Demetrius Jackson.

Hunter would be a good fit with Philly or the Bucks. I think he can be an NBA player just needs to find a team that can give him minutes. The Celtics are deep but cutting last years 1st round pick equals bust pick for Ainge and the Celtics.

I didn’t think about that, but my Bucks could definitely take a shot at him…

Middleton being out for the year leaves a huge hole at the 2-spot – the Bucks will really miss his three point shot, his perimeter defense, and his underrated all-around game (He’s not just a 3-and-D guard).

I am not a huge believer in Snell, and although he’s clearly superior to Hunter, he shouldn’t receive more than 30 minutes a game, leaving minutes.

Malcolm Brogdon will be mostly playing point guard this year to back up Delly, per Bucks sources, so this leaves an even bigger gap at the 2-spot.

It would also be foolish to play 39-year-old Terry more than 12 minutes per game, and Rashad Vaughn just flat out sucks.

The Bucks have a young team, and have such a need at the 2 that they could take that risk… Hunter has a stroke but he hasn’t found it in the NBA yet. He really needs to get better defensively if he wants to be anything more than a Steve Novak-type specialist in the NBA who may get 10 minutes per game – and that’s depending on him finding that lethal stroke.

The Bucks need more floor-spacers now, and he’s a young guy who has some talent, so I don’t see why not.

(I’m still kicking my Bucks for flat-out giving Norman Powell and Patrick McCaw away for chump change)

Hate to say it, but I’m not really sure how much of a future he has in the NBA. Yes, he can shoot the ball and can be lights out when he’s on, but he struggles with consistency and I’m not sure he does enough to warrant playing time when his shot isn’t falling. Hes not strong or athletic enough to guard wings and he’s not quick enough or a good enough ball-handler to create out of the pick and roll. Considering he was a first round pick, I’m sure he’ll get another chance somewhere but I think he could have a hard time sticking. He might be one of those guys who would do better overseas.

It’s not easy to make the deepest roster in the NBA. Especially since every year there’s another Nets pick and 3-4 other draft picks gunning for your roster spot.

You don’t have to be a Jaylen Brown to figure that one out.

Both guys would have filled a spot on the 6ers roster. I doubt RJ does much even with more opportunnity. But at least he gives some comp in practice and can push for some playing time. But everytime he got a hand in his face his shots were terribile. He actually is a decent passer though.

Good. As much as James Young has disappointed, his issues have been mental – he hasn’t quite put himself out there enough or been aggressive enough, but the makings of a decent 3-and-D guy are there.

Hunter was too thin, too old and not worth investing more time on for this team given how loaded the guard spots are.

Young won’t play much still, but if you need to pick between them you take the athlete every time.

I have been very critical of the draft choices Ainge has been making because it felt like Rozier and Hunter were just slightly different versions of Young and Smart, but Rozier actually looks like a better long-term fit at PG given his ability to create plays, something that Smart has not shown the potential to do at a high level.

Luckily, he finally took the right guy with Jaylen Brown – kid is gonna be a star in a couple of years and people really slept on him coming into the draft because of a poor NCAA tournament on a team with absolutely no driving lanes.

Bit of a rant, but hopefully Ainge keeps picking upside players like Brown instead of "safe" picks like RJ Hunter.

If I’m the 76ers I’d cut someone likely Stauskas and give RJ Hunter a shot. Stauskas had an opportunity and didn’t perform, it’s safe to move on from him in my mind.

I never felt Hunter was as good of a prospect as the folks over at ESPN did, but he could be a decent end of the bench flier. Chicago could honestly use his shooting, and they’re only carrying 14 on their roster at this point. With a coach like Hoiberg who loves the 3 ball, yet has little shooting, Hunter could provide them with a needed service, and while his minutes probably wouldn’t be as high as they would if he were to go to a bottom of the barrel team, the depth chart is still more favorable than Boston.

He was older than Young and Young looks really improved at year 3 and still only 20. Celtics roster is very very deep. Good luck to the kid but he will be a double figure scorer some where.
