Does anybody else see Payton going in the lotto and potentially top 10? The more tape I watch of him the more I like his game, he also seems to be generating some serious buzz amongst teams.

I agree. Hard to believe he was unheard of a year ago at this time until he impressed with the national team

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Orlando take Vonleh at 4 and Payton at 12. There has been talk of Orlando taking a big at 4 and a point at 12 and Payton is the one making a move up the charts.

You’re right about Orlando according to many mock drafts. How do you think a Oladipo and Payton backcourt will fair? If Orlando does indeed go this route, I think they’ll have to consider Ennis over Payton due to need. They aren’t winning anything next year, Nelson can hang around to tutor Ennis, who brings along the shooting to make the backcourt work.
If you want a dark horse, Im going with Gary Harris as a project to be a pg. Unless I absolutely believe in Payton, Ennis, or even Napier, I’ll consider going this route,

It sounds like you like Ennis alot, I personally like Payton much better and think he has the potential to be very good, much better than Ennis. Payton has length, is a pure point and has been impressing during workouts.

it seems that the buzz on espn insider is elfrid payton.  he went from late first to #8 in their latest mock.  it seems that they believe the pg rankings go like this…

exum, smart, payton, napier, ennis, clarkson

they have also reported clarkson’s workouts have been through the roof and he may go as high as #17.

I like Payton way more than ennis. Gary Harris is good but he is no pg. A Payton/Oladipo backcourt with vonleh sounds really good

Assuming Marcus Smart is gone, the Kings might take him at 8 if they decide they wanna PG. I couldn’t really see him going any higher than 8 but he has been tearing up the mocks lately…..

I’d take Napier over Payton any day. I don’t care about the size and athleticism indifferences. Napier is a proven winner with a high basketball IQ and has the heart of a lion. And he proved it on the biggest stage. Individual workouts are overrated! Anybody can shine in an individual workout with no pressure on them.

Interestingly one of the knocks on Payton is his outside shooting ability.  After watching the workout video linked to his NBADraft.net profile you would think outside shooting was his strength.

don’t even want to see the amount of thumbs down votes I’m going to get, but I don’t like Payton. Late 1st rounder? Absolutely. Lottery? No way. Everybody just wants to find the next Damian Lillard, but this guy isn’t it.

Of course, since I always seem to be wrong about this kind of thing, he’ll probably be an all star in 3 years. Just like the time I predicted Nelly would be a one hit wonder after Country Grammar came out.

It’s funny how people don’t think a 6’4 pg who has good athleticism and quickness and averaged 19,6,6 can’t be a lottery pick. Basically carried the Raging Cajuns and lead the team. He went to the free throw line a lot this past season, he knows how to get in the lane. He also has quick hands and good lateral quickness on defense.
