OK, 3 riddles. These are some easier ones, because I don’t know how good you guys are at this stuff. 1 point for who ever gets one right.

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he’ll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?

2. A man went on a trip with a fox, a goose and a sack of corn. He came upon a stream which he had to cross and found a tiny boat to use to cross the stream. He could only take himself and one other – the fox, the goose, or the corn – at a time. He could not leave the fox alone with the goose or the goose alone with the corn. How does he get all safely over the stream?

3. A man was found murdered on Sunday morning. His wife immediately called the police. The police questioned the wife and staff and got these alibis:
The Wife said she was sleeping.
The Cook was cooking breakfast.
The Gardener was picking vegetables.
The Maid was getting the mail.
The Butler was cleaning the closet.

The police instantly arrested the murdered. Who did it and how did they know?

This is the Die Hard 3 riddle that Bruce Willis had to solve:

You have a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug. They are both empty, but there is a pond of infinite water next to them. You have to get EXACTLY 4 gallons of water into the 5 gallon jug. How do you do it?

fill up 5 gallon jug.
Pour 3 gallons into 3 gallon jug. Now you have a full 3g jug and a 5g jug with 2g in it.
Dump 3g jug.
Pour the 2g from larger jug into the smaller jug. Now you have empty large jug and 2g in small jug.
Fill up large jug then pour into small jug until it is full. You’ll be left with 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug!

Correct Dwight, that is one way to do it.

Here’s a tougher one.

There are 9 identical looking coins on a table, and a balance scale(you know where there are two sides that teeter back and forth, and if the weight on both sides is exactly the same, then it will be perfectly level. But if one side is heavier, then it will drop down while the other side raises).

8 of the coins weigh exactly the same with one weighing slightly less then the other 8. It is impossible to tell by either looking at or holding the coins which is the lighter coin from the others without using the scale. You can only use the scale twice. How do you find the lighter coin?

all right, I’ll answer it myself.

First you seperate the 9 coins into 3 sets of 3 coins each.

Then you take any two of those sets of 3 and place one set on each side of the scale, leaving the third set of coins on the table.

If the balance beam is uneven, then you know the light coin is in the set that is higher on the scale. If the balance beam is level, then you know the light coin is in the set that is still on the table. Either way, you have now narrowed the light coin down to one of three coins.

Then you take that set of three coins that includes the light coin, and place one of those coins on either side of the scale, leaving one coin on the table. If the scale is uneven, then you have your light coin. If the scale is even, then the light coin is the last coin that is still on the table.

Finally I got the red dot one! I think. Let me try to write out my thought process. K here it is:

Alright there are three options for all three masters. Either they’d see two blue dots. One red dot and one blue dot. Or two red dots.

Obviously since everyone has a hand raised there cannot be more than one blue dot among the three men.

So now there’s only two possibilities; all three masters have a red dot (scenario A) or two of them have a red dot (scenario B). Lets look at B first.

Master 1 – Red (would see one red and one blue dot and raise his hand)
Master 2 – Red (would see one red and one blue dot and also raise his hand)
Master 3 – Blue (would see two red dots and raise his hand)

In this scenario Master 1 would know he has a red dot since Master 3 is blue and Master 2 has a hand up because he sees a red dot (likewise Master 2 would know the same because Master 1 has his hand up).

Since two masters do not know for certainty that they have a red dot then scenario A must be true; they all have red dots!
