CitrusiswowParticipantSince Ricky Rubio has entered the draft, do you think he might be taken first? Who would you compare him to?

rsckease60weParticipantno and marko jaric

org_chaosParticipantI’ve watched this guy and the player he reminds me of the most is a Pete Maravich. He’s not as flashy as Maravich but just look at him and tell me if it doesn’t look like ol’ Pete at 20; floppy hair and all. He just needs to shoot more, hotdog a little and get some floppy socks and we have a clone….

ptguard1ParticipantFace it you don’t have to be super athletic or fast to be an effective point in the league, Jason Kidd is not fast, neither was Stockton or is Nash. You do have to have a great basketball IQ, and from what I understand Rubio has it. As far as calling him a bust, which seems to be the buzz word here WHO IN THE WORLD ARE THE STARS OF THIS DRAFT? This is NOT a great crop of talent coming out, if he’s in the top 5 how can someone gripe with that?

D7H7NParticipantSacramento needs a Point Guard very bad, could be a coin flip
0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/20/2009 - 4:11pm #146705

Tha King2121ParticipantHes great but not a number 1 pick over Blake Griff.
Rubio has great skills and will translate into a good NBA player very soon.
I would compare him to a poor man John Stock the former Jazz – – At the best he can be.0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/20/2009 - 4:24pm #146707
dlisgodParticipantThey say he has the potential to be like Steve Nash

benz0ParticipantAt least that’d mean that Ricky could get an Adriana Lima as a wife…

cprizz15Participanta very good point guard in the league, it might take some time but he’ll be nice..
but all i’m tryin’ to say is when are they gonna put him in the mock?!?!
i’ve been waiting!!!!0 - Posted on: Mon, 04/20/2009 - 6:59pm #146723
jooksParticipantis not steve nash or marko jaric.Rubio is the new jason kidd (without the power) because he has a good vision, ball handling, all around player (quadruple double in world young competition) and very good defensive player.but his shoot is erratic

djdinero88ParticipantRicky Rubio will most definitely NOT get picked over Blake….but he’s really good though…he’ll be a star

peterposmaParticipantEven if they have the 2nd pick, now that Ricky Rubio has declared!!
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 1:43am #146741

until23ParticipantI just knew that M. Beas was going to go 1rst last year but the Bulls went for a supersar PG. That may happen this year as well depending on who the nba sets up to win the draft. Maybe they’ll fix it so the knicks will get #1 and they’ll take the international superstar. Big market in NY.

austin0123ParticipantRubio is not athletic enough…plain and simple…watching his highlight I didnt see one move that was NBA status…I didnt even see a dunk…
0- Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 4:25am #146753
Dewy_SpainParticipantWell, Tony Parker, Calderon, Steve nash dont dunk the ball, but they are very goods point guards.
And do you know that Ricky is able to do dunks?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSBLKrZCkeU
minute 2.30 for example or 9.08
and someone said that he can’t get 3 points shots, but he have a 46%.
I’m from Spain and I think that Ricky is going to do 13 points, 10 assist 2 stelas per game if he play 30 minutes per game.

jooksParticipantjohn stockton was no athletic but he is in hall of fame. You don’t need dunk for play in NBA.The almost european players (I’m french) doesn’t athletic (dirk, stojakovic, calderon, etc…)
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 4:21am #146752
AstroParticipantLooking at this pool of talent, Blake and Ricky are first-tier, the others are second (and third and fourth) tier.
I’d have a hard time picking Ricky first (even if I needed a PG) because Blake is just a special kid with that combo of strength, athleticism and work ethic. The sky’s the limit for him.

jsuh0Participantgreat news for wiz fans. if we cant get the manchild, theres a high potental pg at 2. last things we need are skinny pfs or scoring sgs. wiz can use rubio and arenas like kidd and jj barea. it would mean the end of princeton o which i am glad for

WhyParticipantI’m really liking this guy.
While athleticism is incredibly important in the NBA, I think it’s talked about a little too much. Rubio doesn’t have elite level athleticism but he does have good athleticism, which is good enough for someone with his skill set and basketball IQ. I think this guy will be a star once he’s comfortable, which will be relatively soon. The kid can ball.

praimalParticipanti´m tired of comments like “ricky is weak”
i see that guy figthing whit mens twice his age since he was 16. it´s like when pau was a number 3 pick cause is not enough athletic and wiz pick nº1 a guy like …..?(serously,now i can´t remeber his name, that good his carrer has been so far). ricky it´s smart enough and talented enough to be a number one pick.you dont expect your draft pick to be an all star in the first year and you can work on her shoot and on her body, but the talent?
i´m sure blake are going to be a great player like i´m sure of oden but ricky is ready to make an impact now and to make a franchise grown around he.
anyway.nº1(not probably)nº2 or nº3 i´m sure it´s going to be exciting see ricky on the nba
sorry for my english

AlexBoiiParticipantI have a feeling he’ll end up in Sacramento not sure who will end up with the first pick but I have a feeling it won’t be Sac-town. The 1st pick will be Mr. Griffin, then with the 2nd pick which I’m predicting to be Sacramento’s will be Rubio. For comparison, he’d be the perfect Spur as I see him as a Tony Parker/Manu Ginobli combo without as good of a jumpshot yet, but better passing with flare.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 9:43am #146785

sheltwon3ParticipantAlexboii, I like your comparison. Rubio should do fine but I doubt he overtakes Griffin for the number 1. Even if Sacramento gets the1st pick unless Rubio shows something so great in the workouts it create a super hype, they will take Griffin and trade for a point guard. They have some talented players that can fetch another first round pick.

Stanford hoopsParticipantjust curious for those who think hes gonna be a star, or bust..have any of yall ever seen him play in a regular season game or games or ya’ll just going by the oolympics ( he averaged 4pts and 3ast) and youtube or highlight clips and from what ya’ll “hear”
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 9:49am #146788
Cwat6363Participantafter watching the highlight video, he reminds me of Rajon Rondo, or Tony Parker….Not Nash or Walt Frazier
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 9:59am #146792
Stanford hoopsParticipantjust about anyone with decent skills can look good or great in a highlight video
0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/21/2009 - 11:03am #146810

Da1potParticipantRubio looks like maravich but they both have different mentalities. Rubio is a pass first player wheras maravich was a scorer who had the vision and ability to suceed as a passer, but he scored more. I actually like the john stockton comparison. Rubio is a good defensive player, gets steals and seems to be like Stockton(who is a hall of fame player). As for him going with the number one overall pick, I think that’s a strong possibility if sacramento has the pick. They have actually said they are happy with jason thompson as their power foward of the future. Beno Udrih on the other hand is a different story as he is not a starter on most teams.

jamescmedlockParticipantThe Kings have to draft Griffin. Everyone is so high on him and rightfully so. He is a total beast. However Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes aren’t shaby at all. And think how much you could get from Washington if you traded Griffing to them. Rubio obviously and possibly either (McGee, McGuirre, Blatche?, Haywood @!%#). They could use a another young player to bring in with Rubio for sure.
And maybe, just maybe the ignorant owners of this league believe moronic comparisons like (Marko Jaric) and he falls to four or five. You know the Wolves would trade everybody but Jefferson for Griffin and the Thunder everybody but Durant.
And by the way, Rubio is a freeking Magician. I can’t understand anyone that watched the Olympics, and want to say he is going to be a bust. You have no business making a comment on this site and your membership should be revoked. Seiously, the worst possible career he could have would be the same one Mark Jackson had. Rubio is 19 years old! who cares if he can’t finish strong in the lane against 28 and 30 year old men. Rubio won’t ever be able to finish quite as well as say Derrick Rose, but that doesn’t mean he’s Marko Jaric (who is about the most opposite of Rubio as a point guard can get).
When Rubio penetrates the defense some one has to move over and protect the rim. After that, the damage is done. Rubio can find the open man for a dunk, wide open three, or whatever and do it in a split second. Rubio might be a step behind Rose for his entire career but I promise you he will average more assists and steals than Rose. Rose and Rubio will be the 3rd and 4th best point guards in the league within the next 4 years. Ofcourse, after the playoffs are done Rose will probably already be third.

Al-Farouq AminuParticipantlol, that would make kings the whitest team in the league.

Stanford hoopsParticipantfor one you cant judge how good a player is gonna be from the olympics cuz if you did then arroyo would be a mvp candidate and ak47 would also…and rubio averaged 4pts and 3ast with 2 turnovers for the olympics so im guessing you are baseing how good hes gonna be by a couple of highlights and if thats the case you have no buisness commenting on here
