Stojakovicfor3ParticipantEveryone has such high expectations for a guy who averaged 6.5 points on 39% shooting from inside the 3 point line and only 22% behind the line. And he only averaged 3.5 assists in 23 minutes per game in 20 games, 17 in which he started. Also, in the playoffs he averaged 7 points on 36% shooting and 1.5 assists per game in 22 minutes per game. He does make some flashy, amazing passes but he isn’t the 10 assist distributor that some people think he is. Everyone thinks he’s going to be the next Pistol Pete Maravich, when truth be told, I see him being a bust. Sure if he plays more minutes in the NBA he could average better numbers, but I’m thinking something like 8.5 points and 4 or 5 assists. I’m not bashing the guy, but I just don’t think he’ll be as good of a player as people think he will be and I especially don’t think he’ll be the distributor people think he will be.
If you want proof of the stats, here ya go….http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=LFW

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipanteveryone thinks he will be better because euroleague is a more methodical, slower game than the wide open NBA. Look at brandon jennings stats. Improved in the NBA,and another thing about Rubios potential is his size, he also averages low turnovers, a good amount of rebounds from the pg position and is a thief on defense. Your link you posted showing stats proves that point.
I don’t think he will be Pistol Pete, he’s a different player, but I think he will be better scoring jose calderon.

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantIm not trying to say he’ll suck. The point I’m trying to make is that he’s not as good of a distributor as people think. And he basically averages a turnover for every 2 assists which isn’t bad but not amazing either.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:15pm #539310

butidonthavemoneyIt’s much harder to get assists in the Euroleague than in the NBA or NCAA.
Try watching some of his games. That’s all you need to see just how good of a passer he is.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:17pm #539311
boshjonesfordParticipantAssists are way harder to get in euroleague basketball so id say 3.5 isnt bad….apperently he is really defensivley (steals per game) and prehaps he is more sutied for the nba game where theres a bigger court with more freedom to be creative….but ya he might be overhyped who knows well find out -i still like him over flynn
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:19pm #539312
Stojakovicfor3ParticipantHe by all means is a good passer, but I just don’t think 2.5 assists in the Euroleague will translate to 10 assists in the NBA. And this is a guy who played 6 years professionally. You’d think in his 6th year he’d put up better assist numbers than 2.5 per game for someone who is classified as a distributor more than anything else.

boshjonesfordParticipantJose Caldaron avraged 2.6 assists in 27 minutes with Tau Ceramica
then he came to the nba
He was able to avrage 8.9 Assists in 30 minutes with the raptors (this season)
so ya his 3.5 assists could definitly translate into 10 assists per game (but who knows well see)

topotamolderParticipantAfter boshjonesford post I think we can say this thread is done
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:39pm #539325
Stojakovicfor3ParticipantYes, but Jose Calderon played 2 years in the Euroleague. Rubio has played 5 years in the Euroleague and never put up great assist numbers. But like you said, we’ll see next year.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:55pm #539351

kobyzParticipantdon’t look for somthing exceptional of Rubio, he could be a solid PG, NBA comparison of Jamal Tinsley
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:56pm #539345
boshjonesfordParticipantwell we can make the argument that rubio is yonger and he will learn in time…jose played more then two years starting in 1998 with Diputacion Foral Alava till 2005 with Tau Ceramica (inbetween he played for two other spanish teams) + rubio is a big name people play him harder…no one really knew caldaron (i dont know how valid this argument is but it might be a factor)

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantEh, I guess we’ll see next year. I’m bout to fall asleep

natedogggParticipanti think the fact that the kid is only 20 and has been on the pro scene in spain for 5 years tell you something a little more than his numbers do.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/02/2011 - 11:15pm #539471
jazz270ParticipantYou boys are way off on Rubio. Did you read NoMoney’s comments? Just watch him play, then tell me he’s not one of the best passing PG’s you’ve ever seen. If you don’t feel that way, try badmitton or curling.
One thing Rubio can do is pass the ball. I think his court awareness and vision is outstanding, might be the best I’ve ever seen next to some guy named Stockton.
He might struggle scoring, but as other’s have mentioned he plays passing lanes very well, it’s part of the court awareness thing.
He will blossom in the NBA. Count on it. It will be fun to watch him play, it would be worth it to get league pass just to watch him pass the ball. He’s simply incredible.

cavaliers23Participantrubio has cool moves, but they will never work in the nba. better defenders will cut his assists down and that will force him to become a scorer which he struggles at.

European BallerParticipantRicky Rubio is by far and away, EASILY, one of the worst players in the Euroleague. If this horrible Euroleague player succeeds in the NBA, it will officially mean the NBA is a second-tier competition.
That is how awful Rubio is in Euroleague. He is absolutely TERRIBLE. The NBA should ban the Wolves from the league for making such a bad Euroleague player their starting point guard.
In all seriousness, every basketball fan in Europe can’t stop laughing at the NBA. Taking one of the worst players Euroleague has and coveting him………..the NBA is really becoming a big joke to every basketball fan in Europe.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:45am #539577

HaleParticipantIf it was really a big joke all of your best players/prospects wouldn’t come here and all of the players here who aren’t good enough for the NBA wouldn’t go to europe.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:50am #539581
European BallerParticipantRicky Rubio might be the single worst player in the entire Euroleague (actually the only one for sure worse than him is Nemanja Bjelica). He is being given the starting point guard spot by the Wolves according to their GM.
It is a big joke and rest assured EVERY basketball fan in Europe cannot stop laughing at the NBA over this.
"Our best players/prospects" LMFAO Rubio is one of the worst Euroleague players there is. Bjelica might be the worst Euroleague player of the last decade and the Wolves also drafted him………lolololololololo
Clearly, most NBA fans are seriosuly delusional based on the comments here about Rubio. No, strike that, they are psychotic even.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:54am #539582

HitsterParticipantThe hype around Rubio started several years back and everyone has been waiting and waiting for him to come to the NBA. He was often at the top of mock drafts with the likes of John Wall etc so people will be expecting him to have that sort of potential which effectively the T-Wolves need.
I’ve always been a big Rubio fan but until I see him in the NBA, I have no idea how well he will translate, the T-Wolves almost need him to be an All Star to help them out of their post KG rut.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:54am #539583

HaleParticipant""Our best players/prospects" LMFAO Rubio is one of the worst Euroleague players there is."
Notice how I didn’t mention Rubio’s name. Although despite what you think he is one of the top european prosecpts out there. You have already proven in earlier posts you know very little about what it takes to play in the NBA (Here and also Here)
I’m actually one of the biggest Rubio haters there are, I don’t think he will be a good player whatsoever. But fact of the matter is real ball players dream of playing in the NBA and not in Europe, therefore the NBA is not a joke.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:56am #539585
European BallerParticipantyupyup you are insane. Anyone that thinks Rubio is one of Europe’s "best prospects" is certifiably insane.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 8:58am #539586

HaleParticipantI already showed you two examples of your ability to evaluate prospects. I don’t think you have any right to judge anyone’s ability until yours improves.
Also read "I’m actually one of the biggest Rubio haters there are, I don’t think he will be a good player whatsoever."
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:00am #539589
European BallerParticipantyupyup please take your meds. I would ban you for a million years if this was my forum. In Europe if you came to a basketball place and told us Rubio is "one of our best prospects" you would get your ass handed to you for the incredible level of insult that statement is to European basketball.
Rubio is our trash. The NBA is taking the trash of Euroleague you idiot.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:03am #539590

HaleParticipantYou clearly aren’t understanding me. I don’t think Rubio will be good. I was more referring to you saying the NBA is a joke, when it isn’t. Also I find it hard to believe you represent all of your europe in your statements and you really aren’t the best talent evaluator so forgive me if I’d take your opinion with a grain of salt.
PS: If this as your forum no one would visit it.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:12am #539595
European BallerParticipantYou insulted European basketball BIG TIME. "Rubio is one your best prospects". GET IT THROUGHY YOUR THICK SKULL – Rubio is one of the worst players we have.
But our trash is apparently coveted by the "best league in the world" the NBA.
So, yes, that is a real big damn joke to every basketball guy in Europe and yes, we are laughing at the NBA and all these moron NBA fans that keep talking about one of our worst players as being some kind of great player here.
Let me explain it to you in retard terms (since you are obviously retarded) if Ricky Rubio is "one of our best prospects" then Brian Cardinal is also one of the best players in the NBA.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:19am #539598

HaleParticipantLaugh at the NBA all you want, our worst players go to Europe and dominate. So clearly we are the best league in the world.
"You insulted European basketball BIG TIME. "Rubio is one your best prospects". GET IT THROUGHY YOUR THICK SKULL – Rubio is one of the worst players we have."
Considering you only have like a dozen good players I find this hard to believe. I would think an NBA scout would be able to notice talent in europe over someone like you who doesn’t know basketball whatsoever. I don’t care what you think about Rubio. He obviously isn’t the worst player in Europe or he wouldn’t be a top 5 pick and wouldn’t be on a national team.
I’ll make this easy for you.
You don’t know basketball. Don’t pretend like you do, and act all high and mighty when you have yet to predict one prospect correctly. So go away. I feel dumber from talking to you this long.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:24am #539599
European BallerParticipantYour worst players go to Europe and dominate?
Is that why numerous NBA players that were starters and 6th men on NBA playoff teams become scrubs in Euroleague?
We only have 12 good players in Europe………..right and one of our worst players is Rubio (NBA strarter) and our worst player Bjelica (NBA draft pick)
Clearly, you are at the very least delusional, and you are bordering on pyschotic.
You are racist, xenophobic, arrogant, ignorant and full of it.
You dare to say I do not know basketball. You are a jerk of epic proportions.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:29am #539602

HaleParticipantYou don’t know basketball. I’m not a racist, not xenophobic and not ignorant. Also my netal health is fine, but thanks for your concern. Sure I can be arrogant, but the one who is coming off as arrogant here is you. I haven’t been calling you names, just making the simple observation that you don’t anything about basketball.
This is one of the dumbest arguments I’ve ever been in and I honestly don’t care what garbage you will make up next. So I’m done with this ‘debate’. Have a good day.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:47am #539606
European BallerParticipantAnyone that claims that the "worst American players" "dominate in Europe" is at the very minimum a moron and delusional, and is much more likely racist, xenophobic, ignorant, psychotic, etc.
You live in a fantasy world of make believe.
You might want to actually learn FACTS before you start trash talking to such an incredible level. Typical NBA only fan idiot. But you are taking it to outlandish levels to then say I do not know basketball, when you have an incredibly severe lack of even the most basic general basketball facts.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 10:07am #539612
JimmeredYaWabafetParticipantrubio has a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio,1.6 steals in 22 minutes per game, good free throw percentage;Brevin Knight like stats so i dont get why he is a bad player.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/05/2011 - 9:22am #540266
cward23ParticipantIts alot harder to rack up Assist in the euroleague because there are at least 4 passes before someone actually shoots most of the time. And Rubio cant be any worst than that fat guy people were calling the euro Shaq that stunk it up for the clippers in summer league
