providencefriars1ParticipantTaken from ESPN.com Big East Blog written by Eamonn Brennan. I guess L’ville’s starting 5 as of right now is Siva, C.Smith, Blackshear, Kuric, Dieng. I had previously thought Behannen would start over Smith, but I guess I underestimated Pitino’s love of Chris Smith. Pitino must see something with Smith because I dont think he’s all that great.

To Pitino’s eye, Peyton Siva was the only Cardinals player currently in game shape. But Pitino also liked what he saw from Chris Smith, Kyle Kuric and Gorgui Dieng. Then, in what he describes as "the rest of the story," Pitino is brutally honest about the rest of the Cardinals. He admits that his decision to give Angel Nunez a scholarship was a "gamble." He describes coaches’ meetings with guard Russ Smith and the conclusion that Smith "just does not want to be a point guard." (A conclusion Pitino reached after Smith launched "six shots in 42 seconds.") Elisha Justice suffered a concussion in practice as the result of a defensive teammate failing to call a screen. Chane Behanan has impressed coaches but "lacks the little fundamentals that most great players possess."
And so on. It’s a neat little piece of work from Pitino, actually, a real, genuine scouting report with (apparently) minimal spin. For Cardinals fans, it’s a must-read. But I’d argue that any hoops fan would be interested in any good coach’s report. This certainly qualifies.

JNixonParticipantThat was very interesting read. I do appreciate his honesty. I don’t see why you would want to sugarcoat anyway.
