I’m sure you’ve all heard the story about Richie Incognito supposedly harassing and threatening Jonathan Martin to the point where Martin had to leave the team. Incognito denies the verbal abuse. There is evidence on twitter he threatened Martin’s life, made him pay for trips to Vegas costing 30 thousand dollars along with other rookies and calling him the “n” word and telling Martin he was going to kill him. I know hazing goes on in the NBA, but has anybody ever heard of anything this bad? There’s playing pranks and making rookies stand up and do embarrassing skits and then there’s this stuff. Pretty sad and very scary.

If all these allegations are proved correct more people need to take the fall for allowing this to happen. Where is the leadership in this team? Philbin has failed at his job. And then we have Tanehill stating that if you asked Martin two weeks ago who his best friend on the team with he would have said Incognito. I don’t have too many mates that threaten to kill my mother, racially abuse me or extort me to go partying in Vegas. I hope the whole truth comes out very soon but this is beyond ugly now.

Plus, you run the risk of losing your job. He did the right thing by walking away, and I’d argue that’s more courageous and manly than fighting back.

They seem to be going out of their way to justify Incognito’s actions by directly or indirectly blaming Martin. “He should have fought (Richie) like a man,” “He shouldn’t have been such a wuss,” “The NFL locker room is not like the average workplace,” “The coaches couldn’t have known about this,” “It’s ok if Richie refers to us as n****s,” “Richie’s like a brother…” and so on. As someone who’s been the victim of bullying, the fact that the media insists on justifying it rather than condemning it is so damn upsetting. Doesn’t matter how big or how strong you are, bullying can rip a person apart. The bottom line is, this went above and beyond “typical” hazing. Incognito, and anyone else complicit in the behavior, needs to be punished accordingly.

Even other sports reporting channels and sites just copy off of ESPN and report the exact same sh!t. They turned Manziel into a public enemy when he’s just an immature party kid that doesn’t play by others rules and made him the embodiment of “everything wrong with kids these days”. They always have the most odd sources and it’s hilarious when they completely change a fact because some random source they found was completely incorrect.

As for the Incognito thing, We don’t really know what was the real relationship between them. Even if they were actually good friends or Martin was like his little brother, what Incognito did went way too far and was way out of line. But the problem is Martin showed weakness and the ability to be pushed around and that’s where a bully strikes (and in no way is this fair to Martin of course). I saw a magazine page where Incognito was asked the question a while back about who the easiest teammate to scare was and it was Martin so that really shows you his character and how strongly this “bullying” was. If other Dolphins players are actually lying about his behaviour or rather don’t see the entire behind the scenes then it’s extremely sad to see how poor that team is at being a “team”. Another thing I don’t understand is why after all these cuts and being kicked off the team for it, No one has tried to get Incognito help (or at least we haven’t heard about it), this is a grown man who is being far beyond a bully and he clearly needs help because there has to be an underlying issue he has to enact this sort of behaviour.

“This is the same guy that was laughing about this voice mail at one point in time, first of all,” Hartline said of Martin. “Second of all, I believe that if you look through the whole voice mail, there’s some things said that you probably shouldn’t say in general, friends or not friends. actually on sports center today they had a reporter who used to cover the dolphins and he said that incognito was a very popular figure in the locker room while Martin wasn’t at all which had me thinking that there teammates feel either threatened by incognito or everyone’s saying they were friends so they won’t have to take a leadership responsibility… I just don’t know how u talk to ur “best friend” like that and treat them….everyone in the organization did a pretty crappy job in handling this

NFL players, especially offensive linemen who basically fight every snap, shouldn’t have to be told to toughen up. As I’m UK based, I don’t follow the NFL that much but the story is certainly interesting even if I found it hard to believe that someone’s surname was Incognito and all the jokes that could arise from that.
