I still think the Lakers would improve most by trading Kobe.  I think this is a better team with, say (without hitting the trade machine), Conley/Gay/Mayo (which I don’t think is unrealistic for a star of Kobe’s magnitude), than with Kobe.

 He made a valid point tho did you listen to what he said?  He was just saying that Jerry Buss doesn’t wanna take on extra salary as evidenced by him giving away Odom and declining to get Beasley because he didn’t wanna pay into the luxury tax, then he isn’t 100% committed to surrounding Kobe with a championship calibur team at any cost.  Which is true or he would of never given away Odom, he’d traded for Beasley, and basically he would of put some more weapons around the Masked Mamba to make one last run at it.  because after Kobe, Bynum, and Gasol their talent level on that roster drops like Niagara Falls.

So if they can’t win a chip this year, and they don’t have cap room to get people, nor a good draft pick, how are they going to get talent around him without assetts?  It’s makes sense to just see what he’s worth instead of just letting this team get further away from a title until he retires.

For instance imagine a straigh up trade Kobe for Deron Williams.  Deron comes in and facilitates their 2 seven footers and would be able to recruit other stars.  Not many stars, especially wings, wanna play with Kobe.  And Kobe get’s a chance to start fresh to end his career by championing the Nets into Brooklyn and with Kobe on the roster they’re cap space can actually get other great players.  

It’s worth thinking about atleast.

Trade Kobe?  For who?  You can’t trade someone like that without getting equal in return..not just basketball wise but marketing wise.  There was another thread saying Kobe shoots too much, and he probably does sometimes but to trade him…no way.  Mike Brown did the same thing with Lebron in Cleveland.  He doesn’t have a good offense.  Seems to just give the ball to your best player and let him do whatever he wants.  

Plus I doubt Kobe would ever play for a team like memphis.  Unless its to a big market team I can’t seem him accepting it.  Doesn’t he have a no trade clause anyway?

^^ Not a bad trade Tobe.  Could work for both teams.  But doesn’t Melo have the same stigma as Kobe…shooting too much?  I could see Kobe agreeing to that deal.

And when your holes are that size at the 1 and 3, you don’t need "equal" return in one player. Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

 He is saying it would make the team better going forward. It would. Right now they are going to be a 1st-2nd round exit for the rest of Kobe’s career. Thats not good business for the Lakers or Kobe.

Also, they might not be popular, but his Westbrook being better than Durant thing isn’t as outlandish as it seems. Durant does one thing. Score. He does it tremendously, but Westbrook affects the game in a lot of ways. I would absolutely take Durant over Westbrook, but its a legitimate argument.

Superstars for Superstars never work, unless it is Superstar for rising star. Their problem is NOT the big three. They perform ( almost) every night.  They should have never dumped Lamar Odom.. But that was a business move to save money.
