NJHooper95ParticipantThis has been a topic burning me up for the last few years and especially this year. Rest may and i empathize may allow players perform better but it will not eliminate injuries and do very little in minimizing it. Being a former athlete and suffering two acl i know injuries can occur anytime no matter how much you rest you have gotten.
Cavs are a huge proponent of rest but remained un healthy most of the season, Julius Randle tore his acl in his first game, kris middleton got torn his hamstring in training camp, Rondo is now out, blake is out, Durant suffered an injury and the playoffs just started. Simply stated the only to prevent injury is to not play at all. You can rest a player 20 games in a row and when they come back for the 21st game have a season or career ending injury.

32tn32ParticipantWear and tear. Maybe you tore two acl for not being aware of your body needing rest. As an athlete, you were proabably push ur body pass its limit. It’s like working out. If your gonna go heavy. Get some reps in. You can’t just max out everytime. After you max out. U need rest. You may be getting stronger quicker. But u are doing major damage to the body.
U also stated that that injury can happen whenever. So being on the court can get you hurt . Maybe they need mental rest from being such whiners or flopping. I don’t like player resting either. they are getting paid for it, they should play. They need to figure something out

BleedGreen808ParticipantThe Cavs were running Lebron into the ground in April. He was playing 40min+ per game while they tried to hold on to the #1 seed until their back to back loses to Atlanta. Once that happened they decided to rest everybody for the last 2 games of the season. So I wouldn’t say they were trying to rest the big 3 much this year.
Injuries like the ones Randle and Rondo had were freak injuries. You are right that rest cannot prevent those injuries but that’s not the reason teams rest players. The goal of rest is to give more time for recovery from fatigue and wear and tear injuries. I don’t think we can imagine how much an NBA season takes out of a person. There are even statistics that show on the second night of a back to back players are at a higher risk for injury.

r377ParticipantI was born 1977 same as Vince Carter and Manu Ginobilli.
I don’t know how these guys play 70+ games, plus the playoffs. I am sore for days after one game, I would really struggle to play twice a week.
Being able to play at age 40 against the best in world is a small miracle….Respect to Vince & Manu
