GrandmamaParticipantAndre Drummond fell to 9th in the NBA draft…haha. Moronic GM’s.

Chilbert arenasParticipantAt the time he had big question marks but no one thought T-Rob or Waiters should have been taken ahead of him. MJ taking MKG over him bothered me as well but the rest had some arguments. Could you imagine if GSW took him? Good lord…

hbomb3300ParticipantI saw Drummond one game in college and I knew he would be good. He must of been REALLY bad in interviews to drop to 9. I was so mad at the Cavs for passing on Drummond and Barnes for WAITERS.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantYea. Waiters was a terrible pick, especially since they already had a ball dominant pg in Irving. In defense, Drummond was very underwhelming in college. Looked extremely raw and didn’t seem to play with a very high motor or have much desire to put in the work to get better. I remember thinking he might develop into a really good player (which it looks like is going to happen) but he could also be a tremendous bust.

EspressoParticipantHonestly, is very easy to make mistakes in the draft, but the fact that he dropped to 9 to me is unacceptable.
I thought he should go 2 or 3. I kept hearing he was dropping around combine and i still didnt believe it.

DolanCareParticipantInexcusable he slipped to 9. That said, he insisted in interviews that his playing style was that of Kevin Durant.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantHe played pretty poorly at UConn, considering his huge size and athleticism advantage over competition, and this was associated with a widely documented attitude and motivation problem. Interviews compounded the popular opinion that he wouldn’t put the work in to tap into his potential and thats why he fell. But once he started seeing some money he got some motivation and he started actually rebounding and playing hard. With the way he acted in college and interviews it’s pretty understandable GM’s were conscerned with how he’d carry himself in the pros.

trelos6ParticipantPistons have secretly drafted very well recently (for their draft positions).
2015 – Stanley Johnson
2014 – n/a
2013 – Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
2012 – Andre Drummond, Khris Middleton
2011 – Brandon Knight, Kyle Singler
2010 – Greg Monroe
I suppose it was mostly because they have been a lottery team for those years, after being a perennial Eastern Conference finalist in the mid to late 2000’s.

CynthiaParticipantThat’s actually a pretty impressive draft list. Singler is probably the worst one there and he’s still a decent role-player. None of them are busts, most are starters, and two are All-Star caliber(so far at least).

Rip256Ive been saying the whole time that Drummond is exactly the type of player you want to build a team around.

BleedGreen808ParticipantNo you’re still the guy that said you’d rather have a stretch five over Drummond because of his low IQ and poor free throw shooting.

draftnikParticipantI remember when Detroit took Drummond and I thought "Why take another big to clog the paint with Monroe?" They had a need at SF (that wasn’t addressed until this summer with Stanley Johnson) that never seemed to be of high priority. Drummond has proved a lot of us Pistons fans wrong with his slow and steady ascension to being one of the 5 best centers in the league. I’m not big on hypotheticals, but imagine if Joe Dumars took Kawhi Leonard in 2011 instead of Brandon Knight?!

Mr. HookShotParticipantI think nobody expected hiim to become the player he is now. His attitude around draft time was considered a main issue, and everybody thought he lacked to work ethic to become one of the better players in the game. Normally guys like Drummond, with all his natural talents, screw up due to their attitude; luckily for Detroit and all neutral fans he didn’t, he improved his game, and worked to become a truly special talent.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantGreg Monroe in 2010 at # 7 overall is an Excellent example of why a team should ALWAYS take the "Best player available" in the Draft Lottery….
Monroe was take 2 picks after Boogie Cousins in 2010… In the 2012 Draft Sacramento had the #5 overall pick & took Tomas Robinson, a Power Forward, b/c they already had a center… Detroit, after drafting Center Greg Monroe (#7) in 2010 & Guard Brandon Knight in 2011 (#8) turn around & draft Another Center in 2012 when they take Drummond (#9)….
Outside the Lottery you can think more position b/c obviously the team is better if they are drafting Later in the first round… But in the Lottery, a team MUST take the best player available b/c after suffering thru a Lottery eleigible Losing season you might strike gold… In the NBA great players are the foundation of great teams…

PulseGlazerParticipantI expected a Tyson Chandler/DeAndre Jordan style out of him… not Dwight, but he always had this potential and was the #1 pick in that draft on this site for a long, long time.

ChoppyParticipantPeople keep saying there were all these red flags in college over his motivation and attitude, but I didn’t see that. Even before he slipped to 9, I wanted the Pistons to get him but thought I was dreaming as I didn’t think there was any possibility he got past the Cavs at 4.
A lot of his problems in college were overblown. Drummond didn’t feel that he was used appropriately in college. That U-Conn team was very guard driven (Lamb among others) and their bigs were mostly an afterthought. Also, didn’t he enrol very late, so had to acclimate to college and his team very quickly? I always look for reasons why a player might not be reaching his potential and saw in Drummond a poor fit as far as college team goes and thought in the NBA, on the right team, could be a superstar. Glad the Pistons got him.

PulseGlazerParticipantTristan over Drummond is one of the picks most emblematic of what’s wrong with the Cavs pre-Lebron.
