The W’s called up another D leaguer not long ago and he just scored 28 points and 6 assists on 10-16. The W’s just keep finding D league guys that belong in the NBA. CJ Watson and Azubuike are great, Tolliver, Williams and Hunter look like NBA players as well. So my question is, should the league use the D league more often?

I’m not for sure, but I think Reggie Williams led the NCAA in scoring his junior or senior year. I think he played for VMI.

Well if he played for VMI then I bet he doesn’t play defense because all VMI does is just score at will.

His defense is probably what held him back from being drafted… He has slow feet/poor lateral quickness and struggles defending quick and athletic wing players.

He can definitely score though. He’ll put up some nice games with the Warriors.

My first post wasn’t a knock against Curry or Golden State. I think Curry is the real deal. BothTeamPlaysHard has said in a few posts that Golden State’s system is the only reason Curry is good and that anybody can produce in it. He usually downplays what Curry does saying even D League players play well for them.

That is the irony of GSW they can find all these swing man but not a good big and also they cant win games. I dont know why they gave maggette ever a big contract when they have always found good swingman they could have used that money on a big.

It’s so great to see a guy like this pull through, even if the Warriors don’t keep him (they’re so damn finicky). I totally understanding drafting based on athleticism, size and potential, obviously, but when you have a guy like Williams, who’s 6-6/200 and averaged 28.1 ppg as a jr and 27.8 ppg as a senior, you just have to wonder. It just goes to show that, with all this talk of athleticism, and players with little skill at all constantly being overhyped, one fact of the game of basketball holds true: scorers score.

What I have always said is that you can’t praise Stephen Curry’s numbers as being star worthy when they can plug in D-Leaguers and get the same numbers. It isn’t as if the Warriors are winning games because of the presence of Curry. There is a clear difference in the impact and performance Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis, and Al Harrington had on that system and that of Corey Maggette, Stephen Curry, Anthony Morrow, and Anthony Randolph. There is a real and actual reason that the team with Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson was able to win games. It is not a coincidence that even with only Stephen Jackson as their alpha dog that they were still competitive and worth watching. I vehemently object to people just looking at raw numbers with no regard to what is actually going on and praising a player. I think I am pretty consistent with this one. It isn’t ripping people, it is understanding that statistics aren’t created equally. We have seen Darren Collison lay 20 assists on that Warriors squad. Brandon Jennings hung a double nickel on them and hasn’t hit a shot since. These aren’t unimportant events when understanding what goes on in Warriors games.

Reggie Williams was known as a gunner coming out of VMI who never played defense there. They played a Warriors style of play, so it isn’t absurd that on a Warriors team that plays ZERO defense Williams can get on the floor and hit shots.

i remeber him..was a very good scorer in college. defense wasnt that bad but thats not what held him back. it was his jumper at the time he wasnt that great of a three point shooter on top of who he played with.and the conference he played in

You can plug any shooter in the warriors off. he will be a good scorer, plug him into another teams scheme he will fail. Why do you think kyly korver only plays the minutes he plays with the jazz. We all know korver can shoot the ball and score at will against teams, although his defense allows other teams to score at will. Defense wins championships shooters will not. Lottery team!

Sounds like defense was a big weakness for him.

I saw him play once and he showed the ability to rebound well too. He’s not quick or physically gifted, but he could score and made it look easy. Good to see that he’s getting a chance to play.
