Reggie Jackson seriously has his heart set on being a starter. He wants nothing to do with being a role player and has dreams of being a star player. Both he and Russell Westbrook could start in the same back-court together this season, but let’s be real… Both he and Westbrook play the same position and have similar games, so it’s clear if Jackson really is set on being a starter, his future isn’t in OKC.

It’s clear to me he’ll probably be traded eventually even though he’s saying he wants to be in OKC and Sam Presti is saying they have no plans to trade him right now.

Do you think Jackson is a starter and can he be a star in the NBA? What teams would he be a great fit for?

I agree, Reggie has been and can hold it down as the off-ball guard, however, it seems pretty obvious that he is not comfortable in that spot. His decision making isn’t as quick and he’s not really big enough to attack off of the wings. When Russell Westbrook was out and he was the first-team point guard, he played very well and Oklahoma City was just rolling offensively. 

If I’m Scott Brooks, I think I would start Reggie-Russell-Durant-Ibaka-Adams. This would keep Westbrook fresh (and under control) early and allow him to function as the main ballhandler with the bench unit. Westbrook is obviously a phenomenal player, arguably top 5, however, he is not a pure point guard and I think OKC’s offense suffers at times due to it. Reggie would give them control in half-court sets but still allow Russell play with controlled reckless abandon (an oxymoron, I know) and to run the transition offense that makes this team so effective.  

This Reggie Jackson dynamic reminds me of Lance Stephenson in Indiana. Lance was much more comfortable initiating the offense from up top, and good posessions usually resulted from it. However, Frank Vogel continued to use George Hill (who is obviously much more comfortable off-ball or as a combo guard off of the bench) in that role.

its funny that the 2 other guys that to start ( james harden and jeff green) ended up getting traded…lol…he becomes a free agent next summer if he doesnt get an extension..can they afford to pay him?

 I have never been a fan of letting players control front offices but this is the new NBA. This whole Thunder movement could collapse if KD doesn’t resign. We don’t know if Reggie Jackson is a make or break part of the deal for KD. How close are they?

This whole Reggie Jackson situation is only a problem because Westbrook can’t be controled. They both can defend both guard positions above average so why wouldn’t they play together as the two best guards on the team? Jackson does pout and look stagnated when he is out there with Westbrook but everybody does, including KD. I’m not saying Russell has to become the old Steve Nash but he doesn’t have to be the old Derrick Rose either. 

Reggie Jackson IMO, has the tools and ability to be a much better NBA players on both ends than Jeff Teague, Brandon Jennings and Brandon Knight and therefor is going to get at least 8-10 million as a starting NBA PG if he hits the market. Besides the Thunder are a team that other teams would love to take down a notch and he will get a fair offer.

I love confidence, but this dude really is full of himself.   One play that sticks out is versus the Clippers in the playoffs.  He had KD and Westbrook on a 3 on 1 fast break and decided to take the lay up himself.  Got bailed out by the refs after throwing up his arms trying to get a superstar call.  Granted it was a miss foul call, but it shouldn’t have happened…  He should’ve gave up that ball…  I’ll trade him while the iron is still hot, I believe he only played good because of the opportunities given to him when Westbrook was out…  He doesn’t shoot the ball well enough, he’s fools gold IMO…

Problem is most teams are set at the PG position or don’t have any assets OKC should want. Only options I see, which are all far from perfect, are the Knicks (package around Hardaway Jr.), the Wolves (have solid veterans like T. Young, Brewer, J.J. Barea), or the Kings (need a PG but lack assets really).
