So whenever FA’s are discussing where they will sign there are 3 major factors…

1. Money
2. Talent of team they will be joining
3. Location of team

Lets look just at #3 location, obviously some cities have an advantage over others based on the amount of Media coverage they can provide, physical features (on a beach, in a warm climate, etc), and cultural features (ethnic make up, clubs, events, activities available).

So my question what cities offer the biggest advantage to their respective teams and what cities put their teams at the biggest disadvantage?

My quick ranking of all 29 NBA cities (30 teams but the Clips and Lakers are both in LA)

Last? Anyway, these rankings look pretty good to me. I think Orlando is top 5, since some of sport’s biggest superstars seem to have homes there or Miami. Golden State (Oakland) is too high and I think should be close to making the bottom five. Bay area is nice, but not where the Warriors play. I’d say Portland should be higher, but that might just be personal preference for me.

Top 5: New York, LA, Chicago, Orlando, Miami

Bottom 5: Minneapolis (bottom), Milwaukee, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Detroit.

have any of you even been to oklahoma city? its not a bad place to live u get the peace and quiet of the country but f u drive 30 minutes ur in the middle of okc,bricktown. ive been to a few places like dallas, S.A. ,LA Chicago. And none of them have what okc has small city,big market. Sac is a nice place tho. consider us the Sac of the Heartland. Dont be hating on us,especially if u havent been here.

Utah is not a bad place to live. I have lived in san antonio and atlanta now I reside in slc, utah. It is the most bueatifull and freindliest of all the places I have lived. Nobody know anything about utah just a bunch of speculation about the people.

and it also depends sometimes on your type of market.
i believe Hedo could have gotten more of a “market” out of Orlando.
but he choose Toronto because of its Turkish Communty…among other reasons.

I don’t know about Boston that high. NJ should probably be where it is if only for its proximity to NY. DC is in a good spot, though I could see it placed higher, due to its night life and energy.

I’m from LA and it is a great city for celebrities in general. I lived in Sac for 7 years, and while the city is nothing special, it is great for basketball. It is a one sport town that has a great fan base. Kevin Johnson is the mayor, vlade and CWebb still own restraunts there. Bibby used to spend his off seasons there. Oakland sucks, but San Francisco is so close that Warrior players can just live there which is an awesome city and David Stern said it was his favorite nba city. I’ve been to Utah and I have friends that have spent time there, and unless you are a big outdoors type, everything I’ve seen and heard from others sucks about that place. I also really like Oklahome City and Phoenix.

lol. Hey I didn’t see Minnesota on your list. I live here and if you are just going by places to live this is not as bad as some think. People that don’t live here must think that this is Alaska. We aren’t in the middle of the tundra. It’s just as cold here as Chicago and New York. The crime rate is pretty low for a metro area and the suburbs are well maintained and well to do communities. As far as population, we are made up of two cities in the top 66 cities population wise in the US. As far as media spotlight, we are the 15th largest media spot in the US. One varible that I think you should have included in your post and is a downfall to this area is the fan support. Hockey is #1 up here followed by hockey and more hockey. We have the four major sports up here along with a major Big Ten college, so I would say that that’s one good reason you wouldn’t want to play here. All in all, I believe we should still be somewhere between 15-22 but not at the end. PS I was born in Indiana and that’s the basketball hotbed so yeah they should be close to the top.

As soon as an American born player spends his entire career in Toronto, it will be a big pull for recruiting players. The reason T-mac left was cause he wanted to be a star, and Damon Stoudemire and Vince left because management at the time had no idea what they were doing I must admit. Most players that come here love the city.

Toronto shouldnt be that high. They are ranked #6 because they signed Hedo? Every star they get leaves them via free agency. I dont buy into international players wanting to go there. i dont remember Toronto being on Yi or Rubio’s wishlist.
