When I say rebuilding the Cavs I don’t just mean on the court. I mean in the stands financially and the morale of the fans. My brother still lives in Ohio (where I was born) and he hates Lebron, like he is supposed to, but misses the excitment. So I was thinking what would bring that back? And I have come up with a plan that might work.

1st. They NEED to draft Jared Sullinger. He is going to be the closest thing to a home town hero that they can find playing for The Ohio State University and growing up in Ohio. They need a player they can rally around and he also has to be a player that they can build a franchise around not just a fan favorite like a "Diebler" would be, that player could be Jared.

2nd. Bring Christian Eyenga up from the D-league. Now this could be lower on the list of things to do but I think he can be a good NBA player and he is an elite athlete who can run and jump and throw down some mean dunks. They need a player who can bring that excitement to the game and people love high flying action when they watch games live. I am a big proponent of the NBDL and I watch the FutureCasts alot and watched him tonight and I believe he can bring anything that Anthony Parker or Manny Harris can bring to the table plus his athleticism, also he is getting paid 1 million already.

3rd. Make some moves. These moves don’t have to be huge but anything that could get people talking would be nice. Stay active make it look like your trying to improve or actually try, get some players or cap space. Even make some NBDL call ups to see if they can find a Reggie Williams or an Anthony Tolliver. One of the moves I would like to see is them getting into the Ricky Rubio business. He could be available. Minnesota has Flynn and a young core of players maybe a pick and some expiring contracts could get the teams talking?

4th. Free agency. They need to do some big things in free agency. I think that almost everyone on the roster right now is expendable. They need to put offers out there to all the unrestricted free agents and alot of the restricted ones. They need to offer front loaded contracts to Mike Conley, Wilson Chandler, Thadeus Young, and Al Horford. Try to pry those guys away with huge offers. Also go after Tyson Chandler, Shane Battier, and Boris Diaw. They could even make a move for Oden it might be easier then they think.

Those are just one mans ideas. Share your own if you’d like. Lets forget about the lockout and I will follow it up with a 2011 lineup following parts of my plan. I did put some work into this so feed back would be nice.

    PG- Mike Conley

    SG- Christian Eyenga

    SF-Wilson Chandler

    PF- Jared Sullinger

    C- Anderson Varejao

first off, this seems like bad idea after bad idea… every person on that team is filled with people that their current teams are trying to get rid of but cant…

clevelands best bet, since there is no way they will get anything close to a top tier free agent, is to rebuild through the draft… sullinger definately wouldnt be my first choice since they’ve already got a great player in hickson.. but a player like kyrie irving is exactly what they need if they want to sucessfully rebuild… mo williams simply cannot make his teammates better… they need to build upon talent that they already have and through the draft, hopefully picking up a decent player through free agency along the way..

the best thing about cleveland right now is that theyve got a great owner in dan gilbert and im fairly certain he will spend to win… other than that they are f’d in the A….

If the Cavs would’ve agreed to send Hickson to Phoenix in exchange for Amare last season..Things will be completely different..Lebron will still be there and they would be title contenders, instead of talking about who to pick in the lottery..

But i say the Cavs should go after Oden next summer..What do they have to lose by offering him a contract? He’s still young and a defense type center that could guard Dwight,Horford,Amare & Perkins…

I dont see a franchise type player in the 2011 draft..But Terrance or Perry Jones are high flying skilled players that can bring fans out of their seats with their style of play…Irving might be another CP3 clone, the type of guard that will make his teammates better..

Cleveland needs to start over. They dont have a single player that is more than a piece. They have nothing right now that does them any good from a long term perspective. They need to clear cap space and load up on draft picks.

The bright side for them is that they might have a shot at a really good player. I think Sullinger is going to be better than Kevin Love, but similar. Kyrie looks solid, I think everybody is jumping the gun a bit with the CP3 comparison but he looks like an NBA starter at least with star potential. Perry Jones has the most superstar potential and physical ability but a lot of bust potential too IMO. When a guys question marks are desire and basketball IQ, I wonder how great they will make themselves. Harrison Barnes will be a hot name again in a month, and Terrance Jones looks like a pretty sure bet to be a good player. If they get a 5 pick, they will be in good shape to get a player that can help.

I see it taking 2 or 3 years, but Byron is a good coach. If they can luck out through the draft, and cash in some pieces like Mo , Tawn, Verajao, and Hickson for some solid players, they could get a whole new core that fits his uptempo style better.

In the draft, they should just take the best player available, because they have needs across the board. Hickson is probably their best player, so I would advise against a PF like Sullinger. Definitely need a new playmaker, but not necessarily at the PG position, I think they should try and trade for Terrence Williams from the Rockets to be that playmaking versatile player; almost like Lebron Extremely Lite. That would free up Mo Williams to score. In the draft they could nab Harrison Barnes, who I think would be comfortable in a small market like Cleveland. Varejao is a decent starting C for solely D and hustle plays, like a worse Joakim Noah, but he needs to play with a stud.

    Cavs would be this;

PG; Gibson/M. Williams (whichever is playing better) – shooting/scoring PGs.

    SG; Terrence Williams – playmaker/all-rounder

SF; Harrison Barnes – go-to guy, should be given a free reign to grow into the pressure.

PF; JJ Hickson – 2nd/3rd option, hustle plays

C; Varejao, D and offensive boards.

Bench is meh, but starters come first.

1st. Not a bad idea but Hickson is already there, and it wouldn’t be smart to add Sullinger and create a time share. The Cavs have a hole in the SF position, guys like Barnes and one of the Jones’ will get heavy minutes right off the bat, since their competition would be Moon and Graham,  from a strategic standpoint, it’s a better choice to go for a SF then a doubling up on two young PF’s.

2nd. Eyenga isn’t much to write home about, he’s a great athlete and will pump fans up with his athletic plays, but that’s all he is at the moment. His general talent level is very low, as is his basketball IQ, seldom will he ever try to beat his man by a jumpshot. At this point, the D-league is the best place for him.

3rd. It’s all well and good saying "let’s get into the Ricky Rubio business" but what do the Cavs have as bait? Other teams will come in with better offers and offer a better platform for Rubio to showcase his ability. The Cavs already have two undrafted rookies (Harris and Samuels) and they’ve done pretty well. I would say those are good moves from the Cavs managment, adding two young players that can contribute right away.

4th. I agree with you on building through the FA, i’ve heard Oden’s name thrown around, he would add size to a small frontcourt and i like the idea of adding him, he won’t be asking for much, when you take into account, what Oden brings to the table on top of his cheap price tag, he should be a consideration. If he gets hurt again, it won’t come as a huge shock. Adding a legit NBA center for chump change, would allow the Cavs to make more moves and offer better contracts to younger players thus pushing out the competition due to their better financial offer.
