When reading the previous post comparing Kobe to Jordan it seems the number one thing people say is that Kobe had Shaq so Jordan is better

Thats a stupid argument to make, punishing a player for being around talent

Yes Kobe had Shaq and what did they do together….Win 3 straight championships

Another argument is that Kobe is just a scorer….Anyone who knows basketball knows that Kobe is one of the best defenders in the NBA, i would put him in the top 5-10 range of perimter defenders (Ariza, Iguodala, Battier, Artest ahead of him to name a few)

Also, like Jordan, Kobe was a scorer when his team needed him to be, the teams of 3 years ago that had limited talent desperately needed Kobe to score more and take more shots than he normally would. However, on this stacked team Kobe has been anything but selfish looking to get others involved before taking over if need be

Skillwise, do most of you agree that they are extremely close in terms of just talent

Please don’t say Jordan had less talent, those are asinine arguments

I hate it when people do that too. When you crucify a player for having talent on their team or when they are successful a level of competition that’s not the NBA (ie. when people say John Wall is good, but he was playing high school players). I mean, he was in high school for God’s sake! What can he do about that? Those are arguments that shouldnt be brought up when dicussing a prospect and surrounding talent shouldnt be brought up when discussing how great a player is when he has proven himself without the other talents. No one can win big without a talented team…

Now Kobe plays basically like this –
Distraction in the beginning and acts as the Facilitator on Offense getting his Teammates theirs and trying to get a big lead without scoring himself, then if it’s close he becomes the Assasin especially in the 4th Quarter. That’s how he plays now. He knows when to turn it on and when to get his dimes racked up. A lil overrated on Defense in my mind, but none the less above average I guess. That’s like saying Magic isn’t good because his talent around him got him all those assists and able to score his own…Silly. Jordan had some good talent around him.

People forget Jordan had good teammates and players around him. They may not have all been all Stars but most were solid players who played their roles perfectly. I mean they have guys on their bench who you was like why is he in the league but those guys would make shots all the time and never made big mistakes.

I like Kobe but honestly even if Kobe wins 8 rings he will never be better than Jordan. I am a Lakers fans saying this. Jordan’s greatness was not just about wining and stats. He has a presence about him. Kobe is just as skilled and can actually do more than Jordan but Jordan was just better and he as he got older he made almost all the right plays. Jordan came first and if he did not retire would have had more rings. Kobe is 30 now with a top Western team and could potentially play 6 more good to great year with this team and his team could easily win 4 of the 6 years which would give him 8. I will say i doubt they win nothing less than 2 more. That would put him at 6. He will be considered the closet things to Jordan. Lebron will get a least 2 rings and be compared to Magic.
