Strengths: Hard worker and intelligent player. Agressive on the boards, with soft hands around the basket. Explosive and quick for his position. Two year starter in university with lots of experience albeit at a low level. Technically sound down low with a strong center of balance and a decent repetoire of moves with his back to the basket.

Weaknesses: Way too short to play down low in the NBA, would ideally need to be at least 6 inches taller to play his style of game in the league. Older than most prospects means his ceiling is much lower than others with little room to improve. Ball handling and outside shot need lots of work, doesn’t stretch opposing defences at all. Very weak going to his left hand. Liability at the free throw line.

Strengths. I am extremely quick when healthy , slick ball handler, can dunk at my height, can shot it pretty well from mid range. I can run a team pretty well and pass well. Lead my private high school ball team in TX won a state Chip in 2001.
    Won in Juco. Very competitive.

Weaknesses. I am to small to guard big pgs, and I am injury prone. streaky 3 pt shooter.

    NBA Comparison: Jason Williams

Strengths: Very quick and has great court vision. Good feel for the game. Very good ball handler who can breakdown the D. Good at getting to the basket despite lack of size. Has nice jumper when he focuses on rotation and stepping into the shot. Great free throw shooter. Solid defender for size, can guard very quick players. Nice vert. Passing is his best asset. Good at drawing the foul.

Weaknesses: Needs to focus on stepping into the shot. Not the best player off the ball, much better on the ball player. Sometimes thinks too far ahead of the game. Struggles a big against taller guards who can shoot over him. Size is a major concern. Seems to play streetball too much at times, sometimes dribbling for too long. Very streaky shooter. Decent rebounder for his size but will not be a threat on the boards at the upper level. Needs to develop more leaderships skills. A bit too passive at times.

Great 3 point shot, and can attack the rim with either hand. At 6 foot Im short, but Im still growing, hopefully to about 6’3. If you leave me open thats usually 3 points on the board, but I am still a shooter with a hand in my face.
Im not unathletic but im not athletic either, im average there. Good court vision and can find teammates open easily.

Strengths: Uncanny court vision, strong guard with solid leaping ability. If he gets his shoulder by his man it is usually 2(and alot of times three). Cant really say enough about the court vision and has the ability to get the pass anywhere using an array of different passes. Bounce pass, chest pass, between the legs no look, behind the back, etc.

Weaknesses: Very undersized for the NBA game. A good leaper(37″ running vertical) but that is the only shred of athleticism he is good at. Meaning he is not very quick at all. Can knock down open jumpers and pull ups but if there is a man running at him or within 4 feet you can bet its a miss.

Strengths: Goes 100000%. High Motor, crashes boards hard. Finds away to put the ball in the rim. Has good court vision and passing ability for position. Very coachable and puts in extra work after practice. Extremely long with 7’0 wingspan. Gets alot of deflections and steals on defence due to long arms. Hits the three when open and can get to the rim well and finish.

Weaknesses: Ball Handle needs work. Needs to develop midrange game. Not strong going left. A bit undersized at PF and not overly quick to play SF. Only goes right to finish at the rim or hits the occasional three. Needs to find other ways to score. Average athlete.

    NBA Ready: 2 ( I’d get killed )
Quickness: 7 ( pretty good athlete, so pretty fast, but nothing more than average for a prospect at an NBA level )
Ball Handling: 5 ( not great handles )
Passing: 7 ( good post passer, low turnover player )
    Leadership: 6 ( not a very vocal player )

Intangables: 8 ( fundamentally sound, playing basketball for 15 years )

    Total: 70

NBA Comparison: Theo Ratliff meets DeMarre Carroll

Strenghts: Good shot blocker and fundamental defensive player, a variety of offensive post moves as well as a good high low passer. Solid athlete with good strength, vertical leap and court speed. Very good in the open floor whether on offense or on defense, as well as a high basketball IQ and low turnover player. Can grow a pretty sweet beard.

Weaknesses: 6’2” forward with average handles and is a 30% 3 point shooter from the college 3 point range at best. Size plus skill set makes no sense for him to play NBA ball, despite good post moves, they would be incredibly un effective against NBA level competition. A GM would have to smoke a great deal of crack cocaine to consider this prospect.

Weaknesses: STREAKY, can have a bad game if I don’t make my 1st shot…Can get out of control…Sometimes I stare down my passing targets…Not strong at all, even for High School ball (I bench 150 lbs)…Average court vision..Gamble for steals too much at times..Not a great ball-handler for my size/speed..I’m not more than mediocre athletically even for HS.

How relative should the rankings be? Keep in mind that Jon Scheyer is rated an 84 on this site, so even if one were a former D1 starter they’d still probably be rated in the low 70s. With adjusted rankings taken into consideration, should a solid high school player be ranked in the 70s/80s? Should a recreational player be in the 50s or 60s? I think we need to establish a consensus ballpark range (something within reason)…with that said — great, great idea.

    Strengths/Weaknesses

    Strengths

Great competitor, doesn’t like to lose and will do what it take to win the game. Not afraid to take matters into his own hands. Streaky shooter, but there are times when he can light it up from anywhere. Not fast but quick, good footwork. Very fundamentally sound, boxes out on boards, can handle the ball well enough. Gets to the rim easily due to his size and quickness. Good form on his jump shot. Turns on the jets when the game is on the line. Very clutch. Good court vision. Praises his teammates and fire them up when he feels its needed.

    Weaknesses

Very short and nonathletic for the position. Tends to get to emotional with the game. Inconsistent player, has his days where he is almost unstoppable, and has his days where he is a complete not factor. While his jumpshot is good, it is streaky and inconsistent. Can be a liability on the defensive end when tired. Gets discourages very easily by bad play by himself and his teammates. Doesn’t play great against intense defense. Tends to become a spectator at times and watches plays instead of being part of them.

This was pretty fun to do, I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to do it, but I wanted mine to be as accurate as possible compared to a pro prospect and not just the other rec players I play against so if there is any true constant I would say comparing your athleticism and size to combine results. Stuff like jumpshot, defense, leadership, and potential leave more room for interpritation but you can accuratly compare yourself and rate yourself on the same scale as prospects with the definate numbers used to measure prospects in the combine.

For athleticism and strength or anything you can measure in numbers I used combine resluts for vertical and bench reps of 185 compared with players about my size to determine an accurate rating compared to a prospect. A lot of guys with verticals in the low 30’s had a rating of 8 for athleticism so thats what I went with, I did the same thing for strength rating picking a player my size and comparing his combine results to my abilities. Same with height I picked the smallest player at SF (6’5” Marqus Blakely rated a 7) I could find and compared my height to his at got a 5.

Like I said there is no right or wrong way to do it, but if you were looking for a benchmark, I’d say go with combine results.

    Strengths/Weaknesses

    Strengths

Pure energy player. Active hands. Gets a lot of steals due to quickness and size. A streaky shooter. Makes good decisions on the fast break. Good court vision. Fights for every rebound. Good flopper. Rarely makes mistakes. Grew from 5’2 to 5’5 and gained 20 pounds this year

    Weaknesses

Too small to play anywhere. Can’t defend anyone bigger than 5’9 and heavier than 155 lb. Almost doesn’t score (only fast break points).
