Depends on whether Valanciunas is coming over this season.  They need some more help up front before they ship out a 7 footer that produces well.  Amir Johnson and Ed Davis are pretty much the same player, Aaron Gray is probably the slowest center in the league and even with Anthony Davis that’s a pretty sorry bunch of big men.

If Jonas Valanciunas comes over then I think shopping Bargs would make more sense.  From what I hear he’s a guy who could come in and produce pretty well right away.  If they do ship Bargs, why not for a point guard?  He’s a 20 ppg scorer and he could get a better PG than Calderon in return.

Personally, I think Jonas coming over is more of an incentive to keep Bargs.  Bargs can score extremely well, its his defensive and size (thin) that needs him to be paired with a guy like Jonas who can anchor the low block.  I think they will be a great fit together and therefore getting rid of Bargs would be something the Raptors regret.  Its prefect timing for Bargs.  He is nearing his prime and finally going to have that legit C to allow him to maximize his offensive potential.

Even if they do get Davis in the draft and Jonas comes over, you don’t trade Bargnani right away, if you do at all. We assume Davis, and probably Jonas as well, will be better than Bargs, but you don’t make a move like that until you have something substantial to support your reasoning. A "don’t count your chickens before they hatch" type situation.

Should they start shopping Ed Davis if they get Anthony Davis?

I dont think Ed Davis is a crucial part of any teams long term plans.

Really JoeWolf how many point guards are better than Jose Calderon in terms of getting their teammates involved, he has the highest A/T ratio in the league and makes all his teammates better, the only pass first PG who are better than him are Steve Nash,Rajon Rondo, CP3 and Dwill, what assets can any of those teams offer to the Raptors.

They should have been shopping him 2 years ago once it was clear he would never rebound enough, or have enough post game for his position. We are running out of time to get good value for him.

If we want to win, we clearly need to have a more competent frontcourt. I’m not sure if Valuncias will be anything special either, but it’s clear that this team is going to go through some struggles before getting better, so we might as well get rid of the pieces (all) that aren’t working and start building with a blueprint for success in mind. If we want to win a championship in 5 years, which I think should be the goal of any team sitting at or near the bottom of the league, then we need to look ahead to that and what will help us get there.

There are some teams that I think might pay a nice sum to get Bargnani after scoring like he did this past year, and maybe on a team that needs that scoring and has all the other pieces, he might help. His window for big success (in the form of winning) in Toronto is almost gone.

     er1csh3n,

Calderon is 30 years old and has one year out on his contract.  He isn’t the key to the Raptors’ future and why lose him for nothing in Free Agency next summer and not even try to acquire someone to replace him?  A number of teams would love to have him, but lets be real here.  The Raptors are trying to rebuild and why not try to get a young point guard to replace Calderon?

Why do they need a pass first point guard either?  They average 90 ppg, good for 28th in the league. I know Casey is a defensive coach, but comon’ the Raps are a team that could use a point guard who can score.  What they’ve been doing in the post Bosh era hasn’t been working.  Not to say Calderon is bad, but he doesn’t fit the bill for a team trying to rebuild.  The Raptors were going to draft Brandon Knight last year because they thought Valanciunas would go #4, Toronto management is even looking to upgrade for the future at PG.

If Toronto did get the top pick and Valanciunas does come over then I could see Bargnani being on the trade block. I wonder if the Raptors could get another very high pick out of it this year? Charlotte need a scorer and might see Bargs as an option if they miss out on Davis, likewise if NJ got say 3rd pick could they consider Bargs via a trade to try to keep D-Will especially if Lopez happened to move on.
