there has been some discussion about where different pg’s rank and I’m just curious to see how everyone ranks them. I’m not talking about career achievements or in future seasons, I’m talking about this season right now. Here is a list of 19 guys that stand out to me in no particular order just for your guys quick reference. You can rank top 5, 10, 15 I don’t care. And feel free to add anyone you think I left off.

    Tony Parker
    Jose Calderon
    Rodney Stuckey
    Mo Williams
    Jason Kidd
    Devin Harris
    Derrick Rose
    Rajon Rondo
    Aaron Brooks
    Jameer Nelson
    Chris Paul
    Gilbert Arenas
    Chauncey Billups
    Baron Davis
    Deron Williams
    Monta Ellis
    Russell Westbrook
    Steve Nash

Although Kirk Hinrich comes off the bench, I think he is a top 20 point guard in the league, probably top 10 defensively. Also, I think Jason Terry is top 20 as well.

    My top 10

    1. Chris Paul
    2. Tony Parker
    3. Steve Nash
    4. Deron Williams
    5. Chauncey Billups
    6. Jason Kidd
    7. Gilbert Arenas
    8. Derek Rose
    9. Rajon Rondo
    10. Devin Harris

This is a tough list. There are so many good PG’s in the NBA.

    1) Chris Paul
    2) Deron Williams
    3) Chauncey Billups
    4) Gilbert Arenas
    5) Tony Parker
    6) Rajon Rondo
    7) Steve Nash (getting a little long in the tooth)
    8) Derrick Rose
    9) Devin Harris
    10) Jose Calderon
    11) Baron Davis (could easily move up if he stays healthy and shows improved stamina)
    12) Russell Westbrook (turnovers, turnovers, turnovers)
    13) Jameer Nelson
    14) Monta Ellis
    15) Aaron Brooks
    16) Jason Kidd (see Nash)

I can’t see Bibby that high at all. He can’t defend, push the ball, or break people down off the dribble. He basically just stands in the corner and shoots while guys like Joe Johnson create the offense. You really think he’s 13th iggy?

    1. Chris Paul – The best point guard in the NBA.
    2. Deron Williams – The other best point guard in the NBA lol.
    3. Tony Parker – Tough choice between him and Arenas, but Parker has rings. He’s basically the man in San Antonio now and has been carrying the team.
    4. Gilbert Arenas – It’s early, but I think it’s safe to say he’s re-established himself as a top five point guard.
    5. Chauncey Billups – Still Mr. Big Shot and I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon. Due to his style of play, his game hasn’t gotten worse with age. He’ll probably be a top ten point guard until he retires.
    6. Steve Nash – He’s slowing down due to his back/age, but he’s still an elite passer, decision maker and shooter. He’s super efficient.
    7. Rajon Rondo – He’s at the top of the list of young point guards right now and he’s moving up quickly.
    8. Devin Harris – He’s been injury proned lately, but I think he’s a top ten point guard. I’m interested to see how much better he can get.
    9. Jameer Nelson – He’s a top ten point guard right now, but others will pass him up in due time. He’s playing at his peak right now.
    10. Derrick Rose – I expect him to move up this list sometime this season. Going forward, I’d take him over any point guard on this list other than Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

Just out of curiousity, I was wondering why Steve Nash wasn’t getting much love here. I know he showed signs of slowing down last year and didn’t have a great year, but he has started off hot this season. 18.7 ppg 14 apg while shooting .477 fg and .462 3pt, I understand he isn’t the greatest defender, but I think his ability to create shots for teammates and his extremely high shooting percentages, especially for a pg still puts him in the top 5 still. I think he is going to have a resurgance this season and prove he still is an elite pg.

like your list alot, almost perfect for mine.. just because of big love for youngsters nedd Rose and Westbrook 1spot higher.

and just don’t know about Jennings…i predict 11ppg6apg2rpg2spg before season(it would be just good rookie’s number)
if he can put A.I. like numbers with let;s say 20/7/3/2 he is top10 EASILY(but it was just two games) so i got a middle with around 15/6/3/2 and jsut few spots under top10..
actually Flynn with 4 assists in limited minutes in last two games and still huge scoring has same good potential..
Rose vs Westbrook we called as new generation of pgs, so Jennings vs Flynn could be “little guys are back”? lol

quincey, I wouldn’t say i gave you hell. But the difference is that your thread was asking people to admit who they were right or wrong about. It’s one thing to evaluate how guys look this early, but when I was gonna respond to you by saying how Curry looks better then I thought, I realized it is way too early to say I was right/wrong about him. And i just pointed that out. Also, almost all your players were 1st and 2nd year players, this thread is about proven veteran pg’s for the most part. There are no rookies on it, so that’s a difference right. I was not attacking your wanting people to discuss how the guys have looked, but I just didn’t like the words “right/wrong” I guess.

yeah but it woul dbe different if ijust said wrong about..i said SO FAR which means they had a chance to eventually be right about the person..just like this list of plays so far..its he same thing..if its too early to say who youre wrong about now then its too early to say who is the best right?

well, again, these are not rookies on this list and Rose and Westbrook are the only second year players, so as far as being able to evaluate where they stand right now, you are comparing apples and oranges.

bubasically they are but cuz you said exclued past acheivements and future ..which means judge them by what they have did just this short season…if you said take into account there past season then its different but you are saying judge them just like they are rookies since its just by what they have done so far…thats no different then judging rookies on what they have done so far since its all about so far..correct?

no, now you are just trying to twist around words to make an argument out of it. Everyone else on this thread understood what I meant. I meant don’t say Kidd is better then rondo becuase he has clearly had the better career. This is not a career rankings list of achievments. This about who is the best players today.

not tryna twist or make a arguement…this is a list of players on how they are doing today..not taking in account anything they did in the past liek you said…my list was PLAYERS how they are doing today..not just rookies..randolph was on that list and oden and jordan….my list was no different then this since we both were talking about how they are playing now..my point is theres nothing wrong with making either list because both of us said how they are doing so far in this short season…theres no difference because we put them both in the same fatagory of what they are doing so far without taking into accout pastt things

again, you must have misunderstood what I meant. When I say who is the best pg’s today, I meant don’t give me a list of all-time accomplishements. If that were the case, then Kidd and Nash would be number 1 and 2 ahead Paul and DWill. Who are the best this season were my exact words, not just these last couple games. Everyone else understood that.

Quincey, you say i gave you hell on the other thread. You stated what players are we wrong about so far, and the first response was it’s too early to tell if we are right or wrong. I then agreed with that person saying yeah I want ot give it a while before I say if I was wrong about an unproven player after 3 games. I then logged off and didn’t even see your responses or anyone else’s or the points you were losing until the next day. That was my only comment, so how you could single me out as giving you hell is beyond me.

As for your thread, you took a bunch of unproven players and asked who we were wrong about. Had you just said who has looked good or rank these players or something, then I would have given you a response on that just like all the other threads that ask similar questions. But you wanted to know who we wrong about, and it is too early for that.

As for this thread, I said rank all the top pg’s based on right now. I said not to rank them on past accomplishments or where they would be in the future because I wanted to see whre people ranked them today, that is all. The words rank on the first 3 games never came out of my mouth. It was implied, or so i thought, that this was just a simple ranking of all pg’s. Everyone who replied understood and did so. When you said this was the same as your thread, I simply stated what I meant by saying i didn’t want people to rank guys based on career accomplishments thus putting a kidd over a dwill. Instead of just saying ok, you turned this into a back and forth over nothing. So no, I don’t think you proved a point. Our threads are not the same and you seem to be the only one who thinks so.

    It’s all good man.

You see, personally i’d take a PG who really makes his team better, makes his teammates bust their asses, play defence and act defferently, like Billups did with the Nuggets. Before he arrived, nobody thought they could play deffece, Carmelo was one of the most selfish players in the league ( again, just my oppinion ), and nobody even mentioned Ch.Andersen, D.Jones. When the trade happened, Denver started playing defence, they started winning. In Pauls case, yes, he’s a great player, he can score, he can pass, but he doesn’t make his team that much better, he doesn’t have that kind of trust from his teammates that Billups has ( it’s actualy not his fault ). Besides, we all saw what happened, when they faced each other in last years playoffs. For the ending, it’s just my thoughts, you people have your own.
