rich.homie.mitchParticipantI don’t watch a lot of mavs games so I just wanna know how Rondo’s been doing in Dallas. Has he made the team better or worst or just the same? Does he still have that perimeter defense he had with the earlier celts? When he first got sent to the Mavs it was pretty big and I’m just wanting to to hear how he’s doing.

TRC1991ParticipantMore or less, he’s been a disappointment…In the last 12 games, he’s played 30+ minutes just 4 times
Since becoming a Maverick, he’s already had 7 games where he has shot under 34% from the field including a 3 game stretch where he went 5-31
Also, since becoming a Mav he’s had just 2 games with 10+ assists and just 3/18 games has he scored more than 17 points
The Mavs are 11-7 since they brought him in. He has been benched lately in the 4th in favor of Devin Harris…The critics are already out in full force
It’s still early however

XYRYXParticipantGood question. All in all I think the Mavs are a better team now. Especially for Dirk and Parsons it makes things easier on the offensive end but this is something we already knew when a pass first guy like him is added here.
I have some mixed feelings about him cause I really don’t know which Rondo is going to show up for the remainder of the season. He started hot there taking 15 shots a game and even taking a 3 pointer more often and everything looked fine. After that, he disapeared more and more often resulting in the late game dnp coaches decision. ESPN just wrote in an article that the Mavs outscored their opponent by 29 points in the 4th since he is there and playing in the 4th BUT on thing really really bothers me.
That he only manages to get 4 or 5 assists per night over the last games is one thing and that he still is the best rebounding point guard in the league great but honestl what happend to his shot at the line???
He is shooting .285 from the line as a Mav and avoids contact and penetrating a any costs and I don’t really believe this is helping anyone. On the other Hand he is .385 from 3 on low volume shooting. I’m concerned he won’t be the same Rondo we want to see.

Jase01ParticipantWell, he admitted that he "hasn’t played defense in a couple years", and that the recent trade have reinvigorated him. Let’s stand by if he will be the same Rondo. you can also browse Dafa Sports for more NBA news.

DolanCareParticipantI’m not sure what Rondo’s useage rate is but I’d guess that it’s quite low…. And I’m not saying that he’s a disappointment- I actually think he does help them in a number of areas- but that he is by no means domainting games or catalyzing the offense.
The main problem is the one that was predicted from jump street- (1) does he overlap too much with Monta Ellis and (2) can he help space the floor.
(1) This was true then and it’s true now. Monta is someone who brings the ball to the hoop once he has it. In the past two seasons he has been one of the leading scorers from in the paint. He’s a terror on the drive, and gets quite a few assists on said drives as well…. already we can see the Rondo redundancy. Rondo is the most deadly when he’s going to the rim- he’s physical enough to finish through contact and often makes plays out of thin air while the defense collapses on him.
(2) In order for Monta’s drives to be truly effective, he needs to have shooters around him. Dirk: check. Parsons: Not that much of a check. Anyone who watches Mav games know that Parsons is by no means automatic. And the numbers more or less prove it. He is shooting 36% on the season right now, going 32% in the past 15 games. While those numbers aren’t dreadful they don’t reflect how open Parsons is on many of these threes. (If someone could look up his precentage on uncontested threes that would be solid). So the Mavs have one great shooter as a starter, one ok, then Rondo….. it is a problem.
All in all, I think the Mavs got a good deal for such a high caliber player. But ultimately, if when Rondo is at full strengh it will be hard to integrate him into an offensive system that is already potent.

HitsterParticipantRondo’s assist rate has also dropped since hewent to Dallas which is surprising given their scoring options compared to Boston’s. Hopefully they can get the best out of him, with Rondo’s creative ability it should be able to spread the floor more for Dirk, Monta and Chandler Parsons.

rileymcshea3ParticipantThe Mavs have been good, but nothing spectacular. Before he got their they were the most efficient team on the offensive end. A old Jameer Nelson isn’t near as good as Rondo, but the Mavs four best players Monta, Parsons, Dirk, and Chandler created a great all around lineup and just needed a guy to spot up and hit 3s when open, and that guy was Jameer.the spacing was great, a offense ran by Monta,Dirk, and Parsons was great and Tyson anchored the D.
The thing about Rondo is his defender can help off of him at all times clogging driving lanes, but he does more to the table for the team that goes unoticed. Great defender which was badly needed when playing guys like Steph, Westbrook, Lilliard, CP3, and Tony Parker. As a Mavsfsn I’m much comfortable with Rondo guarding them and being a pest, instead of an washed up Jemeer Nelson trying to stay in front of any of the elite PGs. Rondo can also turn defensive positions into easy baskets on the other end with either grabbing a rebound and turning it into fast break or using his speed creating havoc with Monta forcing turnovers leading to wide open lay ups.
All in all Rondo the offense right now isn’t flowing as good as it was before he joined the team ( Which will only get better when he learns how to play with 3 great scorers like he did with old Celtics big 3), but they brought a defensive play maker like J-Kidd when won a ring with the Mavs. He needs to make free throws though, if they wanna do something in the playoffs.
