Everybody is saying that Daye’s strength is his offense which i agree with as his jumpshot is solid and that Hasheem Thabeet is needs to work on his offense. But when i look at the stats Daye was averaging 12.7 points per game this year and Thabeet averaged 13.7. While it isnt much difference, when you look at the cold hard stats Thabeet is a better scorer than daye.
Is nobody giving Thabeet any love for his offense? or his Daye overrated? or is it just all about potential and im just confused as hell?

The problem with people is sometimes their not contented with what they see.
You have Thabeet for example, a certified power in defense, but still people wants him to be a scorer when his real strength is on defense.

Maybe people underrate Thabeet’s offence because he is so tall. People expect big, big players to dominate and it isn’t always the case. Look at the pressure that has always been on Yao. Thabeet, has got an offensive game but people will always want more from him.

Thabeet’s offensive game is better than what people give him credit for. Considering he’s been playing organized ball for less than 6 years, whereas some of this year’s prospects have been playing since they were in diapers, I’d say his offense is quite impressive. The thing with Daye is he’s so weak physically that he’s relegated to a perimeter game, combined with the talent that surrounded him at Gonzaga, which eats into his offensive production. Another thing that people don’t take into account with Daye is that he doesn’t have the work ethic to improve on his offensive game, so pretty much what you see now is what you’ll get for his career.

Some people just mature earlier than others. I just don’t think Daye has matured yet. Give him time and he will have a much better worth ethic, get tougher, and gain some weight.

Just because Thabeet averaged more points than Daye in college doesn’t mean that Thabeet is a better offensive player…..that is crazy. Stats don’t tell the whole story. You have to look at the system they played in and well as the role each player had on his team. Thabeet just scores easy baskets under the rim mainly from getting offensive rebounds. Daye has the potential to be a great offensive threat in the nba one day. Daye has a lot of rare offensive skills that most big men including Thabeet will never posses. You have to remember it is nearly impossible to compare these players though considering Thabeet is a 7’3″ Center and Daye is a 6’10” Small Forward.

Yea why argue this. Austin Daye is clearly a better offensive player than Thabeet, esp. when you look at their NBA potential

I agree with gatorheels, you can’t compare players who play completely different positions. That’s like comparing Rashard Lewis to Dwight Howard.

He has a weak body, so has KD. I think daye could put 30 pounds in 2 or 3 years and become effective.
He will not be Durant, But is a big SF, he will jump higher and run faster if he develops some strenght

Thabeet scores near the basket and dunks.
Daye had many players competing for shots in his old team.

Thabeet will never be a prolific scorer, i think 10 points, 10 rebs and 2.5 blocks can be real for him.
He is a bit like Camby.

is very overated, he is as skinny as know one in the nba. he averageged 13 ppg. as a sophmore. I think he is a mid 2nd round pick. He will get some playing time his 3rd year of his rookie contract and get some attention as a free agent his 4th year.

Daye will never score as much as Thabeet because he wont get on the court to do it.
