When a player gets traded does the team have an option to get him an extension during the season or is it only during the off season? Basically, what im asking is lets say a team traded for amare, bosh, or just anybody. Does the player have an option to have a max extension?

What? If the team gets a player they have the option of signing him to an extension. Of course. Are you asking if the player has the option or the team that gets him has the option because yes the team that gets him does have an option…Many times players won’t agree to a trade unless the team that gets them immediately signs them to a long term deal…See baseball Johan Santana Mets Trade
