JoeWolf1After sitting out last season due to a transfer, Arnett Moultre has been doing work in early season play. I was kind of curious to see how his talent would transfer after playing in C-USA (not as strong of a mid major as many think, at least in my opinion) but he’s started off the season playing really well.
He’s only 5 games in, but he’s averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds including a 19 point 10 rebound game against Arizona. Moultrie is currently 22-26 from the free throw line and 2-3 from the 3 point line and is overshadowing Rendardo Sidney, who’s started off the season pretty terribly.
A long 6’11” player putting up big numbers and displaying a nice shooting touch for a hot team that’s been beating nationally ranked teams is enough, in my opinon, to put Moultrie back on the radar. If he keeps this up and plays at this level all year, I think he could be a late 1st round pick, if he trails off then I still think he’s a solid 35-45 pick in the 2nd round. Either way I’m giving Arnett some props and putting him back in my mock.

JNixonParticipantI remember watching him play at UTEP and thinking, "damn, Moultrie has great size, good athleticism, and developing skills, but he disappears wayyyyy too much" but since he’s sat out and started playing he plays with a GREAT motor and he’s gotten stronger, tougher, AND polished his skills a little more. He’s a draft pick, he just has to make sure he stays aggressive and continues to polish his skills offensively. I’ve been impressed by him so far. It’s pretty remarkable that he’s gone from a guy who disappears to a pretty scrappy guy, but also improved his skills.

JoeWolf1I hear you, a big guy like that who can shoot the ball and still be tough down low is a player NBA GM’s will take a hard look at. CUSA is so weak once you get past Memphis I thought he’d have more trouble adjusting. I hope he can keep it up, it’s very noticable he’s put a lot of work in.

GrandmamaParticipantWasn’t he pretty high on these mocks at one point?

JNixonParticipantBefore his Soph. season at UTEP he was a mid-1st round pick on the mocks on this site, I remember. That’s when alot of people started noticing him as a prospect

mikeyvthedonParticipantInteresting article talking about Moultrie and Sidney:

Moultrie definitely killed it against Zona yesterday, 8-9 from the field is awesome. He has definitely been the money guy on Miss St, and I would not be surprised if he moves into the 1st round of the 2012 Mock. I know Sidney has been kind of hurt, and if you read the article, it seems conditioning is a big issue for him (gross story near the end).

providencefriars1ParticipantI know he is a great rebounder and defender, but he has serious trouble finishing. One 2/13 game and one 2/8 game. I watched both of these games and those misses were makeable shots that he should’ve made and will have to make this year. Right now I say he is an early second rounder, very late first at best.

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantHe is going to help Mississippi State’s front court a lot. When Sidney is not on the court, is suspended or he is in foul trouble Moultrie steps in and is their big body down low. If they are playing togetther and playing well I don’t know too many teams that would be able to stop them.

iguapops420ParticipantMoultrie plays a little like J.O. in his early days with Indiana. Like JNixon said, the potential is there, it’s up to him to see it fullfilled.
As for Sidney, not really sure whats been wrong with him, but he really seems like he’s simply always going to have issues realizing it whether it’s a fight, conditioning issues, or simply an injury. If he can get his conditiong together, I think he could still have a decent career based simply on size and skills, but he seriously STILL has a long ways to go.
