ESPN senior college basketball recruiting analyst Dave Telep tweeted Saturday morning that five-star recruit Rodney Purvis – who visited Xavier in October – will play college basketball at Louisville.

    Telep’s tweet:

Rodney Purvis will play college basketball at Louisville. Complete story coming this morning on ESPN

Purvis is a 6-foot-2 or 6-foot-3 (depending on who you ask) five-star guard out of Raleigh (N.C.) Upper Room Christian.

He reclassified prior to high school and put himself in the Class of 2013. But in October – shortly after Chris Mack reportedly became the first college head coach to pay him a visit – he moved back to the 2012 class.

The list of schools he was considering included Duke, Texas, North Carolina, Xavier, Louisville, Kentucky, Baylor, Wake Forest, Memphis, North Carolina Central, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Here’s an excerpt of a story from from Scout.com:

Rick Pitino and Louisville made Rodney Purvis one of their top priorities in the 2012 class.

Late Friday night the extra effort with the 6-foot-2 guard out of Raleigh (N.C.) Upper Room Christian paid off. Purvis gave the Cardinals the nod over strong interest from Duke, Xavier and a host of other high major programs.

“With all the other schools I felt like they had other players they were recruiting before me,” Purvis said. “I was Louisville’s No. 1 priority and they made me feel that way. I just wanted to return them the favor and choose Louisville.”

Purvis, who recently switched from the 2013 class to the 2012, cited his relationship with the coaching staff and Louisville’s future as reasons he went with the Cardinals.

In another recruiting-related development, Cincinnati.Com’s Mike Dyer tweeted Saturday morning that Colerain senior LB Andrew Smith verbally committed to UC Friday night, according to Colerain coach Tom Bolden.

This is a real shocker to me. Last i heard he, Alex Murphy, and Shabazz Muhammad were talking about being a big 3 package and i figured Duke and UNC were higher on Rodneys list.

As a born an raised Louisville fan im so excited 4 the program right now, we have a really good 2011 class coming in, but with Purvis coming in 2012 is a great sign because great players wanna play with great players, so hopefully this will be the beginning of getting our program back to being a contender year in an year out.
