Hi its BenParticipantWhile looking at the 2015 draft, which projected 2nd rounder do you think has the best chance to have a huge year and be a top 10 selection in the next draft?
My bet is Dakari Johnson. You can’t teach size and he is massive. He might have a tough time finding minutes behind a loaded frontcourt but the fact is he has great touch and a huge frame. We saw glimpses of his potential in Kentucky’s run to the Championship game last year but I believe that next year he can be more consistent and outplay his current projection.
Thoughts?

JoeWolf1I doubt any 2nd rounders will end up being in the top 10, but I like Shaq Goodwin and Andrew Harrison’s chances of ending up in the 1st round somewhere in the 20’s when all is said and done.

MattP31ParticipantJust two years ago a pair of returning guys not close to being drafted preseason ended up having huge years and coming close to the Top 10 in Michael Carter-Williams and Kelly Olynyk. Ben McLemore also really boosted his stock that year.
This past year Elfrid Payton wasn’t a highly thought of guy a year ago today, but he went Top 10 in a loaded draft, same for Stauskas.
So let’s give these guys a chance to develop and see what happens before assuming they aren’t Top 10 worthy.

JoeWolf1All my statement means is that I don’t really have my eye on any 2nd rounders to make that kind of leap.
I’m not hating or selling anyone short, I’m just not super high on any of the guys in the nbadraft.net’s 2015 mock’s 2nd round as rising any higher than the late teens or 20’s.
They get a chance, it’s not up to me to have any impact on how they play. I’m not going to start ragging on Dakari Johnson if he blows up next year, I just was stating my opinion.

HaleParticipantI’d love to see it but Goodwin has a ways to go. He made a huge leap between his freshman and sophomore season but next year is going to be really telling. He doesn’t have four senior guards to lean on this year. He’s going to have to be the man and I’m not sure he can do that. As much as he improved last season he still gets in foul trouble a lot (although this may be because he was their only interior defender), he really fell off at the end of the year and Nichols surpassed him as the best post player on the team down the stretch.
First 19 games 13.2 ppg 7 rpg 63.3 FG% 64 FT% 2.5 PF
Last 15 games 9.3 ppg 5.9 rpg 51.9 FG% 50 FT% 3.5 PF
Improving his hands would help him a lot. He dropped a lot of passes at the end of the year. Continuing to improve his post moves would also help a great deal. He was much better last year than as a freshman but he’s by no means a consistent scoring option yet. One more thing that would really help is continuing to work on his athleticism. Athletically from freshman to sophomore year was like night and day. If he could keep adding there it’d make him much more dangerous on both ends.

providencefriars1ParticipantYa top ten is a little high but I like Terry Rozier, Jordan Mickey, and Treveon Graham as sleeper first rounders

theballerwayParticipantbut i feel easily first round for Shannon Scott. There were only a couple ogs in the whole first round so theres hope for him and without Craft and Ross shoulod be plenty of oppurtunity ( Russell still being inelgible too?)

WITNESS2014ParticipantI see some late 1st round potential in Scott. People dont realize that hes every bit of defender that Craft is, but wit way more offensive upside. Russell is eligible now by the way as I expect him and Scott to share ball handling duties now.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantHe’s not quite projected in the second round in nbadraft.net’s 2015 mock, but on a couple other sites that shall remain nameless he is. Florida’s Chris Walker. Barely got any playing time last year but should get lots of burn this year, with his length and athleticism I could definitely see him sneak into the lottery

Memphis MadnessParticipantFrank Kaminsky is a 7 footer who can shoot. Who knows? If that is what your team needs, then that is what your team needs. Maybe the Sixers started something and we see more Twin Tower lineups.
Sam Dekker is back in the second round, but supposedly he is 6’9. He could move back up…
Of course, there will be probably be guys that aren’t even on the radar right now who could move up.
What about that other Plumlee kid? The two Plumlees in the league right now can really play, maybe somebody takes a flyer on Marshall… OR, maybe Coach K learns how to coach big men, and uses Okafor, Plumlee, and Amile Jefferson to his advantage.
One blue chip type guy who has just been hanging around that I think could be a late lotto type guy is Alex Poythress. I like Montrezl Harrell as a power forward better, but Poythress is pretty good in my opinion. If Kentucky makes a great run, as they should, then all the UK guys should move up. Another Wildcat with "potential" is obviously Marcus Lee. If he shows some more good stuff he could really move up, too.

imAboutDatActionParticipantPlumlee is horrible.

ncballerI laugh that Plumlee got recruited by division 1 schools let alone Duke and was a McDonalds All-American. In HS he could barely run up the court without tripping on himself.
Going back to the topic though, I am shocked that Dakari Johnson isn’t a projected lottery pick on this site. When he gets good position in the post, he is damn efficient and takes good shots.

Forte IVParticipantI’m hoping Rodney Purvis and Isaac Hamilton have a great years that could end up warranting them at least lottery. But that’s just because I’m fans of them.

Lotto StudParticipantWhile I don’t think he’s going to make a huge leap into the Top 10 due to hype. I see Dez Wells making a big splash in the rankings possibly being a 20-30 range guy.

Lotto StudParticipantBiggest sleeper of them all that isn’t on anyone’s Mock radar is Texas PG Isaiah Taylor. This guy is special and nothing short of the term. I hope we can get up a profile for him pretty soon, for those who are not familiar.
