2. Most Underrated- Greg Monroe- Not much love in Detroit. He’ll be an all-star in a few years.
3. Overrated- Carlos Boozer- His defense is nonexistent, undersized, can’t finish inside, ugly shot.
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin- Hes playing on pure energy and athleticism, just wait till he refines his skills.

JaeEvolutionParticipantBest PF right now – Dirk Nowitzki, I would say Amare but Dirk played at a different level to get his ring this time should be the easiest answer.
Most Underrated – Josh Smith, if he would stop taking jumpers he could be one of the last 5×5 players in the league.
Overrated – Carlos Boozer he’s injury prone and plays horrible defense
Best in 5 Years – Blake Griffin if he doesn’t get injured
Best Young PF – I think Blake Griffin should be excluded from this because he is already so far ahead of the young PF’s, therefore I would choose Derrick Favors.
Best Rookie – Jeremy Tyler, I believe the hype.
Most Athletic – Josh Smith, He is only 25 and it will be awhile before his athleticism leaves him
Best Leader – Dirk Nowitzki
Top PF All-Time – Tim Duncan

WizardofOzParticipantIn regards to Kanter’s position, I think he’s pretty equally effective at both. He can face up and hit the jumpshhot, and he can also overpower you in the post or hit you with a nice post move.
Defensively, I think he’ll be better guarding Cs in the NBA than PFs. Most power forwards nowadays faceup, and many will probably be able to outquick him. When defendeing Cs, he has the strength to match up with them, and he doesn’t have to worry about getting blown-by.

WizardofOzParticipantFor those saying Josh Smith is the most athletic PF, I no longer think so. He’s lost some athleticism over the years. Even Kenny Smith. I think it’s mainly because of the weight gain. He’s still a very good athlete, but Griffin is definitely more athletic now IMO.

I May Be WrongParticipant1. Best PF right now- Dirk = Offensive game cannot be stopped.
2. Most Underrated- David West = He’s a great player for a guy who isn’t super athletic. He can find ways to scorer and has a consistent jumper. CP3 will be mad if he leaves
3. Overrated- Andray Blatche = I know WizardofOz, you’ll kill me. But honestly I cannot STAND him. Just my opinion and the opinion of a few others here. I was going to put KG for a second but he does have a ring and was a key reason of that chip. But still, he gets on my nerves now because I think he thinks he’s better than he really is
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin = So fantastic last season and doesn’t even know how good he really is. He’ll be special barring any injuries
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less) – Blake Griffin = Yup
6. Best Rookie PF- Derrick Williams = Honestly I consider him a PF and I think he should too lol.
7. Most athletic- Blake Griffin = by default although Amare used to be sick before his injuries
8. Best Leader- Dirk = 2011 NBA champs because of Dirk leading them. Another easy one
9. All Time? = Charles Barkley = I know Karl Malone is the man but seriously, Chuck was a unique PF. His size doesn’t stop him from killing opponents. He was my favorite and I loved his game

3. Overrated- Amare Stoudemire (Some people have him in the same class as Dirk which isn’t deserved).
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin (No need for explanation)
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less)- Blake Griffin (Look above)
6. Best Rookie PF- Ernes Kanter
7. Most athletic- Blake Griffin
8. Best Leader- Tim Duncan (Dude is just a proffesional)
9. Top PF All-Time- Tim Duncan (Karl Malone should get more love than he has though)

NardDog NationParticipantI don’t get Dirk getting best leader. He is certainly the best PF in the league IMO but being the best player on your team/league does not make you a leader. Larry Johnson was very much the leader of the late 1990’s Knicks but he was not our best player by a long shot. Dwayne Wade was the best player on the ’07 champion Heat but I think we can all agree that Shaq was the leader of that team.
What made us all admire the Mavs was not Dirk’s individual performance but how balanced their attack was. Everyone stepped up and would hit timely shots. If I really had to go with a leader of the Mavs, it would be either Jason Kidd or Jason Terry who either run the offense or are much more vocal than Dirk ever was.

1. Best PF right now- Dirk. the man just led his team to a nba championship. he deserves this.
2. Most Underrated- Serge Ibaka. There are several underrated PFs: LA, love, kris humphries, and etc… but ibaka doesnt get enough credit for his defense. he has developed a jumper also. if he continues develop and with enough playing time, he might be able to develop to a 17, 10, 3 blks guy.
3. Overrated- al horford. i dont think he deserves those all star spots. he is a system type of guy.
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin. The guy still needs to play better defense. If he develops a better post game and a consistent jump shot that extends out to 18-20 ft. the man will be unstoppable
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less) – Blake Griffin
6. Best Rookie PF- Kanter. i know he didnt play at all last year, but looking at what he did internationally, i believe this guy is the real deal. if ppl on this site gave jonas valanciunas so much credit for his performance at the U21, why not for kanter?
7. Most athletic- Josh Smith. The guy can fly.
8. Best Leader- Garnett – he is the vocal leader and emotional leader for his team. he might have the "worst" stat out of the big three or big four in boston, but without him in the middle, boston wouldnt have won that champ, and will no where close to a contender now. last year, garnett has the greatest point differential out of all the boston players when he was on and off teh court. this shows how valuable he is for that team.
9. Top PF All-Time- Duncan. It’s down to Duncan, Petit or Malone. Duncan has the most team success. Malone’s career numbers just jump out of the page. Petit is a legend: he has one champ and his numbers are not too shabby either, but i ahve never seen the guy play. To me, team success is very important in judging the best players of all time, so i give the edge to duncan.

1. Best PF right now- Dirk, especially after his finals performance.
2. Most Underrated- Chris Bosh. I know people will think I am an idiot for this, but Bosh was a 22 and 10 machine in toronto. His numbers took a bit of a hit because he plays with two guys who like to see themselves shoot, so obviously his scoring went down. Don’t understand why people call it "the big 2" cause he was considered a top 15 NBA player only last year!
3. Overrated- Tim Duncan. Not particularly on here, but ESPN and many of my friends still consider him one of the best PF in the league. I wouldn’t consider him one of the 10 best at the moment.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantIt is hard to choose between Malone and Duncan for best PF of all time. The main reason I give the nod to Duncan is because he has 4 rings to Malone’s none and Duncan was probably one of the best defensive PFs of all time (behind Rodman but pretty even with Garnett and Debuscherre).
That being said Malone had the best offensive game for a PF ever, was a slightly better passer than Duncan, was a pretty good if unspectacular defender and could rebound at a very high level. Also Malone’s durability and all-star play well into his late 40s is legendary; He averaged 25.5 PPG, 9.5 RPG and 3.7 APG in 2000 as a 36 year old wheras Duncan has slowed down to the tune of 13.4 PPG, 8.9 RPG and 2.7 APG as a 34 year old.
Ultimately I think me putting Duncan ahead of the Mailman comes down to one season; 1998-1999.
People often cite Malone’s failure to win a championship due to playing in an era dominated by MJ. This isn’t quite true however. From 1988 to 1990 (Before MJ’s first championship run) Karl was a dominant force and he had quite a team around him, a HOF PG in John Stockton who was in his prime, a very good defensive center in Mark Eaton and a good complimentary scoring piece in Thurl Bailey among several other good role players. But Malone and the young Jazz constantly floundered in the playoffs, whether it was getting swept by the Warriors or knocked out by the Tom Chambers/Kevin Johnson led Suns.
From 1994-1995, MJ was on a hiatus but once again Malone and the Jazz couldn’t get past the Houston Rockets in either season despite boasting the best record in the league (60-22) in ’95.
Then after MJ retired for the second time, Malone had another golden opportunity to win the big one that fateful 1998-1999 season. He was named league MVP for the second time and led the Jazz to the best record in the league (tied with the Spurs). However in the playoffs the Jazz crumbled to the Trail Blazers in the second round. The Spurs on the other hand, swept the Lakers in the second round, swept the Blazers in the Western Finals and then went on to route the Knicks in the Finals giving Duncan his first NBA title…and what might ultimately be what seperates him from Malone in the pantheon of NBA greats.
For a second let’s look at it from another perspective; We (the fans, media etc) give Lebron a hard time for not winning a title despite being so talented. We say things like "until he wins a championship (or 3) he can never be placed ahead of Larry Bird regardless of his ability and statistical accomplishments" Now imagine that Lebron never wins a championship for the rest of his career despite many more All-NBA campaigns, how many people would call him the greatest SF of all time. I would imagine very few, and those that would probably have never seen Larry Legend play. I hold Malone to that same standard and unfortunately for him Duncan came after so more of the next generation will remember his exploits.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI gotta say I have some big disagreements with your top 20 list.
– No Bob Petit? Is is because he played in the 50’s, early 60’s? Fair enough as long as you don’t consider Bill Russell one of the greatest centers of all time.
-No Chris Webber? The guy made 5 All-NBA teams (first team once, third team once and second team three times), was an MVP canidate and could score, rebound and pass at a very high level. Career averages of 20.7 PPG, 9.8 RPG and 4.2 APG.
– No Bob McAdoo or George McGinnis? McAdoo is in the Hall of Fame for a reason. McGinnis is considered one of the greatest ABA players ever and he made 3 NBA all-star teams after he came over to the NBA. There is absolutely no way that Lucas, Oakley, Willis or Horace Grant (not to mention several others) should be ahead of them
-Shawn Kemp at #11? Kemp was a human highlight reel but he may have been one of the most overrated players I have ever seen. He only averaged over 19 PPG twice (19.6 in 1996 and 20.5 in 1999). Never posted a single 20-10 season. Was a lethargic defender, an awful passer and a turnover machine (including 4 turnovers per game in 1996 which was probably his best season overall). His career averages of 14.6 PPG and 8.4 RPG and 1.6 APG certainly can’t hold a candle to most of the PFs who should be higher than him.

1. Best PF right now- Dirk Nowitzki (amazing shot, brilliant skill set, underated for years)
2. Most Underrated- Zach Randolph (Strong Post Game, Good Rebounder, can shoot out to 3pt range, strong, dosen’t shy away from contact, can defend well in the post. not a good shot blocker though)
3. Overrated- Al Horford (this bums me as a florida fan, but he is praised like some kind of messiah too often)
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin (He’s Athletic, can put the ball on the floor, shows hustle and an improving offensive game, hounds the boards and his Dunks scare the hell out of anyone within 8 ft of the hoop and inspire awe from anyone past that)
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less)- Blake Griffin
6. Best Rookie PF- Derrick Williams (unless you call him a SF, if so, Jan Vesely, and if you consider him a SF, Enes Kanter (assuming you don’t Call him a centre)
7. Most athletic- Blake Griffin (Amare and Josh Smith are in the convo, but blake is a beast)
8. Best Leader- Dirk Nowitzki (however KG, Timmy-D and Amare have all done well enough to have some claim to this title. Dirk is Just my gut feeling)
9. Top PF All-Time- Tim Duncan
10. Best Defensive PF- Kevin Garnett
11. Best Offensive PF- Dirk Nowitzki (followed by Amare, Pau and Zack Randolph imo)

I know I forgot Webber so I tried to post an update but the post didn’t go through. About Pettit, I guess I forgot him maybe I thought he
was a small forward. I wasn’t sure if McGinnis was a power forward and I didn’t know if he had enough good years.… Bob McAdoo has been listed as a center before so I will rank him there. I think he was a center on the Knicks and Braves but I think he
was more of a power forward on the Lakers.0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/28/2011 - 7:47pm #580596

SmooveKRYPTParticipantthe only reason I didn’t neg you is because you answered the questions very spot on…but your top 20 list is just turrible(Charles Barkley voice)
1. Best PF right now- Dirk…Z-Bo is close though.
2. Most Underrated- LaMarcus Aldridge
3. Overrated- Boozer…he’s pretty much the reason Chicago DIDN’T win the east.
4. Best PF in 5 years- Aldridge. I live in LA and I love the guy, but I just can’t see Blake Griffin staying healthy for too long with his wreckless style of play. I’m hoping he proves me wrong cuz the Clippers sure do need the guy if they want any shot at breaking away from mediocrity. But for now I’m going with the LA of Portland.
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less)- Blake Griffin
6. Best Rookie PF- Tristan Thompson…his defensive impact will be felt immediately.
7. Most athletic- Blake Griffin, Tyrus Thomas
8. Best Leader- KG
9. Top PF All-Time- I’m gonna go KG. I know everyone feels it’s between Duncan or Malone…but those 6 straight years of 20-10-5 averages for KG is one of the most impressive feats I’ve ever seen. His all-around skill set for a PF is ridiculous. If he played with just 1 other somewhat star player during his Minn days, I think he has 3 rings right now & this would be a much more debatable topic.

4. Best PF in 5 years- Griffin (He works so hard in a position that is becoming obsolete, Dirk, Amare, Bosh,Gasol n Z.Bo top 5? That says a lot about how wack the position is, Duncan is a center now and KG miss too many games)

1. Best PF right now- Dirk Nowitzki – We all saw what he did in the playoffs this year. He’s been ballin his whole career.
2. Most Underrated- LaMarcus Aldridge – Great year, led an injury riddled Blazers team to the playoffs. Only to lose to the world champs in the first round.
3. Overrated- Carlos Boozer – A solid player, he can score, not worth the money he received though. Plus he averaged 12.6 pts in the playoffs… ouch
4. Best PF in 5 years- Blake Griffin – Rookie year, 22pt 15 rebs and he still can improve his shooting and free throws.
5. Best Young PF (2 years exp. or less) Blake Griffin – Same reason as above.
6. Best Rookie PF– Do we count Derrick Williams at a 3 or a 4? I put him as a 3 so I will pick someone different. Marcus Morris – I like his offensive game. He can spread the floor or play in the post. Very nice for a rookie.
7. Most athletic- Blake Griffin – Slam Dunk champ, destroyed Mozgov and half of the NBA.
8. Best Leader- Kevin Garnett – He came into Boston and changed the culture of the team. Tough to go against Tim Duncan right here but what KG did was amazing.
9. Top PF All-Time- Tim Duncan – 4x NBA Champ, 3x NBA Finals MVP, 2x NBA MVP, 20.6ppg 11.4 rpg

LOL, What’s with the Dirk hate over him averaging 7 RPG? He’s a 33 year old that doesn’t play that much in the paint. For his career he has averaged 8.4 RPG which is pretty good (not to mention 10.4 RPG during the playoffs). 8.4 RPG is 1.1 higher than Kevin McHale’s career average and nobody seems to have any problem proclaiming McHale one of the 5 greatest PFs of all time. This isn’t the 60’s anymore, the pace of the game has slowed down and teams don’t miss as many shots. You don’t need to average 12+ boards per game to be considered a good rebounder. For example Dirk’s career average of 8.4 would have placed him 19th in the league this year. Not too shabby at all.
No he isn’t a great rebounder but that has never been his calling card. He’s not a traditional PF but he is still arguably the best PF right now and that’s certainly not a knock against the quality of PFs in the league. Give it two more seasons before the best and second best power forwards in the league are Blake Griffin and Kevin Love…followed by a large gap…and then the rest of the leagues PFs. You’ll see your dominant rebounders then.

carefulParticipantI don’t get why so many people love Dirk but then hate on Amare. Everyone gets on Amare and says he plays no defense and doesn’t rebound but no one seems to point out that Dirk doesn’t excel at those two areas of the game either. Amare took a terrible team to playoff status even before Melo arrived. Honestly at the beginning of this season I thought Amare was going to be lost without Steve Nash but I was wrong. He’s got a sweet mid-range jumpshot and is a great finisher.

rileymcshea3ParticipantDirk does play good d Chris Bosh averaged 23 ppg vrs the Bulls who have one of the best defenses in the league , and then he averaged 18 vrs the Mavs .
And for those of you that are saying Serge Ibaka is underrated lets take a look at Kris Humphries stats
Humphries 10ppg 10.4rpg
Ibaka 9.9ppg 7.6rpg
And Ibaka is talked about way more then Humphries is.The only time Humphries is on T.V. is when hes with Kim Kardashion .

tuck243ParticipantDid you watch the finals this year? Dirk didn’tguard Bosh… Not even 20% of the time… Dirk did increase his rebound totals for the finals though… Look understand that the PF position is becoming Soft Forward… With Pau Gasol, Amare, Dirk, and Chris Bosh being the current best in it… Dirk averaged 7 boards this year, while Amare averaged 8… I agree with CAREFUL when he said you can’t be mad at Amare for his lack of D, and turn around to say Dirk is the best in the league… Makes no sense…
