HitsterParticipantOne of the NBA’s most enduring players Antawn Jamison could become only the 39th player to pass 20,000 NBA regular season points this weekend, if he can score another 6 points for the Clippers.
Now in his 16th NBA season, Antwan has been a very consistent scorer throughout his career maybe just being below true All Star level but perhaps unlucky only to get two All Star appearances in his career due to the number of franchise players in his position around at the same time. Antwain has had 4 full seasons at over 20ppg and another 4 full seasons at over 19ppg, add in a 6th man of the year award during his year in Dallas and as a 35 year old was still putting up 17ppg for Cleveland in 2011-12.
Add in a distinguished college career where he was College player of the year in 1998, reaching 20,000 career points would be a fitting way for Antwan to cap his career.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantTruly one of those hard working, low maintenance All-Stars that the league rarely has.
It’s odd to look at his career averages of 18.7 PPG and 7.6 RPG (including 20.6 and 8.1 in his prime) throughout 16 years and realize he’s only made the All-Star team twice.
The guy played big minutes and rarely missed large chunks of games, up until he turned 33.
He was as consistent as they come. Was already a guaranteed 18-7 from his 2nd year in the league up until he was 35. Not many guys can do/say that.

chrsw003ParticipantSpeaking of records/milestones, Kyle Korver broke the record for most consecutive games played with at least 1 trey ball last night against the Cavs. The streak is at 90 and I dont see it stopping any time soon.(knock on wood). Love watching him play, he better be in the 3 point competition this year.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHow many 20,000 point guys aren’t in the Hall of Fame? He has an interesting resume once he gets to 20,000 points. That’s a ton of points. Solid rebounds, 2 all-star games, and a 6th man of the year award.
Didn’t he have back to back 50 point games with the Warriors?
Doesn’t have a ring. Was he on that Mavs Finals team? Not sure…
He has borderline HOF numbers with some interesting stats.
I don’t think he gets in, but he has a pretty solid resume.
I think a guy like Chris Webber is in. Great all around game, legendary college career, and a guy who was fun to watch. Not the best ever, but he was good. If the Hall is about FAME then C Webb is in. A truly iconic guy in college, and a star at the NBA level.
Jamison has better stat totals and was probably a better scorer, but he doesn’t have the all-star games or the FAME that C Webb had, so I don’t think Jamison gets in.
One guy with both Jamison’s level of HOF stats, plus a little bit more all-star games and fame (like C Webb) is Mitch Richmond. He might not be a first ballot guy, but I think Mitch Richmond should get in. The stats are there, the all-star games are there, a ROY award, an all-star game MVP award, plus he was a two time Olympian and has an NBA title.
So congrats to Antawn Jamison when he gets his 20,000th point. I think if he winds up winning a title with the Clippers this season it could help his case for the HOF. He wouldn’t be a key guy (like Mitch Richmond) but a ring is a ring.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantInactive/Retired players with 20,000 points that are not in the Hall of Fame
Shaquille O’Neal* – 28,596 points
Allen Iverson* – 24,368 points
Mitch Richmond – 20,497 points
Tom Chambers – 20,049 pointsShaq and A.I. are ineligible, they need to have been retired for 5 calender years or deceased in order to become eligible.
Shaq would be eligible for the Class of 2016. A.I. would be eligible for the Class of 2019.
Now, the Hall of Fame does take collegiate achievements as well.
Mitch Richmond has 20,000+ points, an NBA title, 6 All-Star appearances, 5 All-NBA Team awards, an Olympic Gold Medal, All-American Honors in ’88, and both his collegiate and professional jerseys retired.
If he’s not in, I don’t see Jamison making it.

HitsterParticipantMitch Ritchmond in my opinion should be in the Hall of Fame, his worse season in his first 10 in the NBA was 21.9ppg, so his scoring was as consistent as most All Stars in that era. Maybe his lack of success in the play offs until he won a deserved title with the Lakers counted against him.
C-Webb in my mind has a great shot at the HOF when you take his NBA and college career into consideration.
Sadly I don’t see Antawn as likely getting into the HOF when he becomes eligible as there will likely be other more likely candidates being eligible at the same time as him. He could get in maybe in due course during a quiet year if the voters ever looked down the scoring list and saw him with 20,000 plus career points, elite college career etc.
For a lot of neutrals, he is the sort of guy that no-one would begrudge winning a title rather like Mitch Raymond at the Lakers as I mentioned above or Gary Payton and Lonzo Mourning at the Heat a few years ago.
