It isn’t easy seeing how good Towns & Porzingis are playing as a Sixers fan, so I’m calming myself down by dreaming of the possibility of a 2016-17 Sixers frontcourt of Embiid and Simmons.

I know this is a dream, and the rest of this post is also highly unlikely, but I’m just thinking of the options that Hinkie prepared for the team.

    * Everyone already wrote Embiid off for the understandable reasons, but the optimistic me is keeping the dream alive. IF (IF IF IF) healthy he’s considered the biggest potential of the recent years. He’s already said to be 7”2, so that’s a scary thought.
    * As for Simmons, I think he may be an incredible stretch 4 (instead of a SF). He’s so dominant at that position.
    * Having those two in the frontcourt makes Jah & Noel more expendable. You could trade one of them + some other assets for a Paul George or Bradley Beal type player. The one you don’t trade you put on the bench.
    * Sixers’ will be so far under the salary cap they can sign another FA guard/wing.
    * If they get lucky they land Lakers pick and draft J. Murray at point guard.

You then have the following lineup:
    C Embiid
    PF Simmons
    SF Covington
    SG Beal/George
    PG Murray
    —-
    Bench Noel/Okafor, Saric, Holmes/Wood, Stauskas.

This team is different than the current team, but it’s pieces fit together very nicely. It’s possible since all the assets and progress Hinkie has made in the background.

    Thoughts?

Man if us Lakers fans throw up these many hypothetical lineups like this forum does for the sixers we would never hear the end of us being "delusional".

Why would the Pacers or Wizards trade Paul George or Bradley Beal, respectively, for anything that the Sixers are offering? For the Pacers especially, that would make zero sense. They have their superstar player to build around, and he’s in his prime. Beal is looking like a legit All-Star this year too and a great backcourt partner for John Wall (the Wizards franchise cornerstone). Washingotn is just one or two players away from being a contender in the East for many years to come.

Philly needs to just ride the Hinkie train for a couple of seasons, and they’ll have their young line-up to build around too. The Sixers could potentially have two top 5 picks this year. If they can get Ben Simmons and Jamal Murray with those picks, they’d have a line-up of Murray, Stauskas, Simmons, Noel, and Okafor with someone like Dario Saric fullfilling the 6th man role of the bench. If and that’s a big if, Joel Embiid ever can stay healthy and come close to his massive potential, they’d have an unbelievable young core. Let the talent sort itself out, and make trades as needed from there.

I think the Sixers will go hard after him…. & I’ve read rumors about the Pacers moving PG13 but that was while he was injured…. I don’t think Either player ends up in Phila….. but the Sixers fans are not delusional for at least dreaming about it…. I really can’t blame them…. I watched the 4th qtr of the Heat vs Sixers game last night…. & it was some of the Worst coaching & worst Def I have ever seen…. They absolutely Gave that game away… & if I was a Sixers fan I’d have been in a mental institution after that loss…

But as far as what they will have on the floor next year – I just can’t think about it anymore…. We have 5x more Sixers threads on here than GSW threads & they are 14 – 0…. Phila is lucky this is not European Soccer b/c the Sixers would be relegated below the D-League….. & none of us would need to even think about what the Sixers line up would be next year….

I think you are being quite optimistic, but I can understand why 76ers fans need that optimism.  With that being said, I might try and give a more ‘realistic’ projection.

Lets first look at the 76ers picks.  They have four in the first round.  To be slightly optimistic, lets say they get the 1st pick (their own), the 4th pick (from the Lakers), a mid-round pick (from the Heat) and late round pick (from the Thunder).

Lets say they pick Ben Simmons with the first pick, Jamal Murray with the 4th pick, trade the mid-round pick and get a long-term prospect with the late-round pick.

I agree with your stance that they should trade for a better player, but you’re reaching with what you think you can get.  I think a package of Nerlens Noel, Richaun Holmes, Jerami Grant and the mid first round pick for a guy like Avery Bradley is more reasonable (assuming you can get the guy to agree to an extension of some sort before the trade).

With the raised cap, you can now throw money at a couple of players for the last two active roster spots, starting SF and backup PG.  For the PG, I think the 76ers would want a veteran presense who is still capable, such as Greivis Vasquez.  With three guys in their first two years in the league in the current starting lineup and one who is more renouned as a defender, the starting SF will have to be a – likely overpayed – established starter.  Guys like Joe Johnson are likely to go to a contender, but bigger fish such as Durant and Lebron won’t sniff at the 76er, so a guy in the middle of pack such as Nicolas Batum could be likely to accept a big payday to come to Philly.

So, this leaves the 76ers active roster in 2016/17 looks a bit like this:
    C: Okafor – Embiid
PF: Simmons – Saric – Landry
SF: Batum – Covington – Thompson
    SG: Bradley – Stauskas
PG: Murray – Vasquez – McConnell

This roster certainly not a contender, and probably isn’t even a playoff team. It is, however, a team that is finally going somewhere expect the top of the NBA Draft.  With four high potenial rookies, plus Okafor in his second year, you have a roster that could blossom into something special a few years from now.

    I’d rather see

    Embiid

    Okafor

    Simmons

    Stauskas

    Murray

With Noel, Covington off the bench.

Let’s face it, no FA is going to Philly!

I think there are two things that are being overlooked with something almost everyone here is agreeing on.

1.) Ben Simmons, if the Sixers land the 1st over all Pick has the potential to be SPECIAL!

2.) Dario Saric is going to be a SOLID basketball player that can do many things being 6’10".

No free agent coming to Philly? Not in the next couple years no. Not anyone that makes a difference (Lebrob, KD) but a line up with young special talent could draw attention in a couple years.

The Sixers are flat out terrible right now. You have to feel bad for Jahlil Okafor right now. I argue with all my basketball friends that this Sixers team had a chance to be really really good in the years to come.

    Possible Line Up

C – Oakafor, Embid (has to stay healthy) PF – Noel, Saric (4 or 3) SF – Simmons SG -Stauskas , Murry PG – McConnell, Murray

This doesn’t even include Trades (Hinke’s a trade machine), or any other transactions.

This is my first post. Thanks for reading.
