I May Be WrongParticipant1. Best PG right now? – Tough and always gets debated on here. I go with Chris Paul mainly because he is such a true PG who literally does everything well. Great shooter, great passer, great defender, awesome rebound totals for his size. When he’s healthy, he’s the best and there is no debate IMO
2. Most underrated? – Kyle Lowery. Young PG who came out of nowhere last year. Brooks got hurt and this guy said it’s my chance to shine. He’s a pugnacious defender and can control the temple very well. Doesn’t get enough credit IMO
3. Overrated? – Jameer Nelson. Look, honestly I like the guy and I watched him put on that amazing run when he was at St. Joe’s with Delonte. He’s a good PG but I think some people overrate him. He’s not a terrific passer and doesn’t really make his teammates better. He’s the perfect PG for a player like a Kobe, LeBron, or Dwight when they draw attention and kick out for 3’s. He doesnt have a huge salary which is why I was always surprised that he wasn’t traded by the Magic.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? – John Wall. I wanted to put my boy Jrue Holiday here because I loved watching him grow last season. But I’ll keep it real and go with who I believe is the next big thing in PGs. Wall will be in the conversation in the top 5 very soon. His potential is scary good
5. Best Rookie PG? – I’m assuming this class but I’ll go with Kemba. He has that chip on his shoulder after he proved everyone wrong last season. I think he’ll carry that momentum and put up the best PG numbers. Brandon Knight might as well but I want to see if the Pistons give him the keys to the offense or bring him off the bench. Until then, Kemba gets to take the Bobcats over and do what he pleases since he is basically the whole team lol
6. Most athletic? – Derrick Rose but I wouldn’t count out Russell Westbrook as well. Rose has the slight advantage because he may have the prettiest lay-ups in the game and that’s something Westbrook doesn’t do so well yet. Dunking wise I think they are both comparable.
7. Best leader? – CP3 again. Although I want to give Steve Nash a shoutout because at his age, he is unbelievable. He runs the offense so well and makes his teammates better. I gave CP3 the nod though because he really looks to be in control at all times. To me, it’s so hard to tell what he wants to do because he is so serious and competitive. That’s the type of PG I want on the floor.
8. Best All Time? Dalen Qualls! ….. sike lol … Magic Johnson. Was a flashy player and I loved that and who knows how his career would have ended if it wasn’t for his early retirements. John Stockton also a close second

Bmore_DCParticipant1. Best PG right now? Chris Paul…i almost said DRose but CP3 has already proved he is the best…how else do the Hornets make the playoffs???
2. Most underrated? Honestly i think Russell Westbrook is underrated…I love Durant but the Thunder really depend on Westbrook (whether you like it or not) and he gets a lot of undeserved bashing. On a side note i saw the Wizards vs. Kings game this year and i gotta admit, Beno Udrih is a beast (yes i said Beno Udrih)
3. Overrated? Jameer Nelson – he cant penetrate, hes not a great passer, and hes undersized. i liked him a lot in college but im sorry, he is not a starting PG for a championship team…no way.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? John Wall – not even close…dude is a freak. All he needs is a jump-shot and he will be up there in the top 3 pg discussion. I wont say DRose status but close. He averaged that many assists on one of the worst teams ive ever seen here in DC
5. Best Rookie PG? – I think Brandon Knight will end up being better than Irving…but it could go either way
6. Most athletic? DRose…you know why
7. Best leader? Steve Nash/Jason Kidd…2 of the G.O.A.T.
8. Best all-time? Magic Johnson…nuff said
MY TOP 5 PG IN THE NBA – 1) CP3. 2) D-Rose. 3) Deron Williams. 4) Russel Westbrook. 5) Steve Nash

BasterdInABasketParticipant1. Best PG right now? Paul- Better all around than Rose.
2. Most underrated? Devin Harris- he gets bashed on here a lot.
3. Overrated? Rondo- He looks great along with 3 all time greats but hes not all star caliber without them.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? Obviously Wall.
5. Best Rookie PG? Irving. I like Knight but Irving can fill it up too and is a better pure point.
6. Most athletic? Rose. As explosive but Quicker than RW.
7. Best leader? Rose. I love NO’s point guards as leaders but Rose carries that team.
8. Best All Time? Magic. Easy one. Greatest playmaker and 6’8”.

larbear260Participant1. Best PG right now? Deron Williams- he scores at will, knows when to turn it on, can take over a game effortlessly, great shooter, a bully of a point guard, solid on D with his size has the ability to body up almost all PG’s…excellent vision..its a close call between Williams and Paul but ill take Deron
2. Most underrated? Kyle Lowry- i thought he was to small coming out of college, didnt show much his first few years but can into his own this year once he became the starter, solid all around game for a pg, great energy, doesnt get much love
3. Overrated? Rajon Rondo– he puts up huge numbers…on the proto-typical basketball team, everythign is around him for him to be successful, he cannot shoot AT ALL, cannot shoot free throws, plays supurb defense, but once garnett allen and pierce drop off in production, rondos numbers will dip immensly, he wonth have all those easy assists, all those long boards, and he certainly will not be left wide open without a defender 10 feet away, so his scoring will drop….hes a good player, but his numbers are much better than he actually is
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? John Wall no question…others come to mind, Steph Curry, Jrue Holliday, Irving…but walls 8.3 apg is phenominal for a rookie, hes so quick and in a few more years with a developed jumper should be able to score at will, his athletic ability will keep him alive on every possesion.
5. Best Rookie PG? Kyrie Irving, will put up the best PG numbers, is the most talented PG, doesnt have much competition in this class
6. Most athletic? Derrick Rose/Russell Westbrook- too close to call, probably the two most athletic point guards ever, they are revolutionizing the position
7. Best leader? Derrick Fisher– never puts up good numbers and isnt the most talented player but hes so disciplined, has 5 titles, and has had to deal with the likes of Kobe, Shaq, Gasol, Artest, Bynum, Odom, Payton, Malone at times…and thats alot of personalities, not to mention hes a great player rep as well
8. Best All Time? 1. Magic Johnson- best point ever period, not close….2. Stockton 3. Robertson

rileymcshea3ParticipantBest Now-CP3- no doubt in my mind…..I feel D-Rose doesnt control the game like CP3 does
Most underrated–Steve Nash-Some days people will say Rajon Rondo is better then D-Rose but look at Nash averages more assist then Rondo when he has the big 3 and Nash’s sg,sf and best big man is Vince Carter,Grant Hill and Marcin Gortat and they averaged the 4th most ppg . He is a way better shooter then Rondo ,has a better field goal percentage then Rondo .And Rondo only averages one more rebound per game
Overrated-Hard to choose because most are in the shadows of the great ones but I gotta say Mike Conley. People say he is a great visilatater and he can pass good but he only got 6.5 assist a game with good supporting cast
Best young PG- Well John Wall is ok for someone who is young so i guess i will have to settle with him
Best Rookie PG-Rubio will have good assist numbers but Kyrie is a minature CP3
Most athletic-D-Rose nuff said
Best Leader -Jason Kidd-(from a Mavs fan point of view)Even though he wont make wide open lay ups and J.J Barea can light it up on the scoreboard on his good nights ,I still felt more confortable with Jason Kidd in late game situations
Best all time- Magic is amazing and if werent for him i would have Oscar Robertson has my greatest pg of all time

mwalling2117Participant1. Best PG right now? I know I’m in the minority, but I have to say Derrick Rose. Dude is the MVP for a reason, easily the best scoring PG and I think is a bit of an underrated facilitator. Many people bring up how Paul disected the Lakers, but so did JJ Barea…
2. Most underrated? Andre Miller easy. Miller gets very little credit for being consistently one of the ten best PG in the world. He has been for the last decade and hasn’t been given credit for it.
3. Overrated? Derrick Fisher. Plays terrible defense (ask Barea and Paul) and should not be a starter in the NBA for any team. Should just be a backup for a team who needs a good locker-room influence.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? I think every previous response has covered this question for me…
5. Best Rookie PG? I will go with Kyrie Irving, but it could be Walker. Don’t quite know yet.
6. Most athletic? I can’t decide between Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook.
7. Best leader? I will go with Jason Kidd especillay after this year’s playoffs.
8. Best All Time? Magic, but if you include Oscar Robertson as a point guard I might have to go with him just based on his versatility.

iguapops420ParticipantBest Now-CP3(STill the at the top IMO)
Underrated-Rondo(Best defender, can’t shoot but given free reighn, this guy could put up some numbers. How quickly people forget this guy averaging a double double during the playoffs in 08)
Overrated-Mike Conley(He’s gettin his numbers but I’m not so sure it’s not at the cost of OJ’s and ultimately Rudy’s)
Best Young-Wall(It’s not even close either)
Best Rookie-While I wish I could say it’ll be Darius Morris(Laker fan), gotta go Jimmer(too many wide open shots and a high bball IQ not to have quality numbers.I expect Bibby like numbers from when he was a King)
Most Athletic-Three way tie Rose,Westbrook,Wall(All Super human phenomenal athletes. Just too close)
Best Leader-Kidd(Reigning NBA champ at 38.Nuttin else needs said IMO)
Best Ever-Magic, followed by Stockton, then Kidd

Most Underrated- Andre Miller Avg 15 points 7 assists and 4 reb for a career is pretty good and miller is a beast in the post, but nothing fancy
Most overrated-Jameer Nelson plays no d and is always hurt can not take the ware and tear of the NBA grind
Best young PG- Derron Collison had a good year last year with 13 point 5 assist avrg then came on really strong in the playoffs putting up a fight against the Bulls
Best rookie- Irving will have to do the most do to the fact he is on the worst team, and he seems up to the challenge
Most athletic- D-rose the way he can finish plays is almost unreal.
Best Leader- J-kidd
Best of all time-John Stockton all time leader in assists which is the ultimate PG stat and also the all time leader, all time leader in one offensive and one defensive category

sammybuckeye13Participant1. Best PG right now?
Deron Williams. D-Will is the only point that can score 35 one night and drop 15 dimes the next, he’s huge and he’s a crazy competitor. When he lands with the right team he’ll be an MVP-caliber stud; we saw what the Jazz were like without him.
2. Most underrated
Ramon Sessions. Had the 8th-highest PER in the entire league last year due his incredible efficiency on offense. If the Knicks are smart they’ll go hard after him.
3. Overrated?
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)?
Derrick Rose. There was some argument early in the year about him or Westbrook. Lol. Rose led his team to the finals while winning mvp as a 22-year old.
5. Best Rookie PG?
Kyrie Irving. I’m tempted to say Jimmer; I think Knight might struggle to get minutes in Detroit’s crowded backcourt and Kemba will play more of an off-the-bale role, with D.J. Augustin at least starting. Irving should be given the keys fairly early on and is one of the most NBA-ready shooters at the position I can remember.
6. Most athletic?
Rose, he does things I’ve never seen before on a nightly basis.
7. Best leader?
Jason Kidd. No other point guard is more intense yet always calm and focused with a strong hunger to win.
8. Best All Time?
Magic. 5 titles, changed the position, arguably the most versatile player ever.

Chris Paul tops the list of elite NBA PGs

Chris Paul is one of the best pick-and-roll point guards in the NBA.
We’re officially in the dog days of the lockout. Negotiations between the players and owners have stalled and seemingly every day there’s talk of another star jumping overseas. But not even the lockout is cause to stop evaluating the best players in the game and seeing how they stack up against their peers based on talent, skill and productivity. This week, I’ll be ranking the top five players at each position and breaking down what makes them so special. Each day, I’ll look at a different position, starting with point guards and finishing with centers. So toss out postseason awards and career accomplishments and find out who’s the best of the best.1. Chris Paul, Hornets

If his commanding performance against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs showed us anything, it’s that Paul is the game’s most complete point guard. His fundamentals are impeccable, and he’s capable of effectively running any set in any style of offense. With arguably the best handle in the NBA, it’s virtually impossible to deny him access to any path to the rim or spot on the floor. His combination of yo-yo-like ball control, speed and split-second decision-making make him the best pick-and-roll point guard in a pick-and-roll league. He rarely makes the wrong decision after the pick, and no one is better at throwing the lob to the rolling big. Inside the arc, he makes tricky floaters from odd angles seem routine. His deep cache of runners and pull-ups save him the trouble of having to go all the way to the rim, which prevents him from getting his shot blocked as often and reduces wear and tear on his body. One of Paul’s most effective but least-known assets is his strength. It gets lost among all his other attributes but helps him to absorb contact in the lane and shrug off bigger defenders while trying to turn the corner.2. Derrick Rose, Bulls
[+] Enlarge
AP Photo/Lynne Sladky
The excitement quotient soars when Rose goes into attack mode. The fear from his defender is palpable. The reigning MVP overwhelms opponents with blinding quickness and an array of crossover combinations that defenders are forced to play off of. In a one-on-one situation from the top of the key or the wing, Rose is as close to unguardable as anyone in this league. His burst of quickness to the rim is so explosive it leaves defenders with very little margin for error. He has the ability to change direction in tight spaces without slowing down, which more often than not requires a defender to help, freeing up Rose to dump the ball off to a big for an easy 2. But his signature unstoppable move is driving baseline and finishing with an up-and-under reverse layup. No point scores better in the clutch, averaging 47.8 points per 48 minutes of clutch time. Despite being his team’s best scorer, Rose keeps those around him happy with his unselfish play. Whether on the break or darting to the rim, he keeps his head up and doesn’t waste a lot of time dribbling in place. He made considerable strides with his midrange game last season, and his step-back move after selling the dribble is the best of any point guard in the league.3. Russell Westbrook, Thunder
[+] Enlarge
Layne Murdoch/NBAE/Getty Images
In just his third season, the 22-year-old guard landed himself on the All-NBA second team and is one of two guards to average at least 21 points and seven assists. Westbrook is arguably the best athlete in the NBA. He’s a speed demon on the break and has the dangerous ability to change direction at full speed in the middle of the floor. He fuels his last two steps before he takes off on one leg with an explosive burst that seems to allow him to accelerate in the air, making an attempt to block his shot all but a guaranteed trip to the line. (His 7.7 free throw attempts per game were first among point guards and eighth overall.) That more than 60 percent of his attempts came at the rim is a testament to the fact that defenders simply can’t stay in front of him. But it also is indicative of the fact that his jump shot is far too unreliable. With an improved midrange shot, Westbrook could score the same (or more) on fewer attempts, allowing him to focus more on setting up his teammates. When Westbrook is able to find a happy medium between scorer and facilitator, he could find himself on top of this list.4. Deron Williams, Nets
[+] Enlarge
Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE/Getty Images
Tough to find a pure point guard with a better offensive game than D-Will. Let’s start with the break, where he can get his 6-foot-3, 210-pound body up to speed deceptively fast. Thanks to his excellent handle and exquisite balance, he loves to zigzag through traffic in top gear, putting the defense in a vulnerable position. He often pushes the tempo off of made baskets to catch the defense off guard. The best advice for teammates is to sprint hard in your lane and keep your head up. When Williams zips his two-handed chest passes to spot-up shooters, the destination is always between the shoulders and belly button. This prevents the shooter from having to reach too high or low for the ball so he can shoot it in rhythm. Although D-Will won’t wow you with otherworldly athleticism like Rose or Westbrook, his advantage is a much more polished offensive game. His midrange J — a must for a point guard since most can create the space — is the best on this list, save for Nash. His career percentage from deep (35 percent) means you have to step out and honor the shot. And that’s when he gets you with that bang-bang crossover, which is as good as any in the league. Be especially aware of the right-to-left, between-the-legs dribble followed by a hard cross back to the right.5. Steve Nash, Suns
[+] Enlarge
Garrett W. Ellwood/NBAE/Getty Images
The former two-time MVP led the league in assists for the fifth time in his illustrious career and shot a sterling 49 percent from the field for a seventh consecutive year. Although his 37-year-old legs make him a defensive liability, he still possesses the purest point guard skills in the league. There’s nobody better at creating easy scoring opportunities for his teammates. Whether it’s a clever bounce pass to a big while sneaking along the baseline or advancing the ball up court with a 40-foot pinpoint chest pass, Nash expertly puts his teammates in position to succeed. He’s not the quickest, but Nash makes up for it by constantly moving — and no point guard moves better or more effectively without the ball after his initial pass. Benefit: Sprinting to an open spot buys him an extra second to get off catch-and-shoot jumpers when the ball is reversed. This past season’s mark of 39 percent from 3 is his lowest since 1999 but still the best on this list thanks to his picture-perfect fundamentals from feet to fingertips. Nash may also be the toughest point guard on this list, playing through a rash of injuries to his nose, eyes and mouth, which he usually incurs thanks to his indifference when it comes to giving up his body. Nash’s drive and verve make him as enjoyable to play with as he is to watch play.0 - Posted on: Mon, 07/25/2011 - 8:04pm #578357

Bullyball5050ParticipantBest PG-Chris Paul take a bunch of average players to the brink of beating the my Lakers best overal pg offense an defense the guy is just a beast
Most underated-Rajon Rondo everybody always giving him SH%$^&t about not being able to shoot but he is the conducter of the the Celtic orchestra gets the ball to the celtic big3 exactly were they want it an is a warrior
Most Overated-Russel Westbrook IMO he shouldnt be labeled as a PG several times when other players on his team have favorable matchups he dont get them the ball instead he looks for his own looks like he is trying to prove that he is as offensively capable as Durant an Harden
Best young PG-Jrue Holiday has the potential to be an elite point guard under Doug Collins
Best Rookie-Brandon Knight although everybody is all over Kyrie this guy has the tools an i think the Piston are going to put the ball in his hands with an up an coming big man in Greg Monroe an veterans like Prince (if they can keep him) he will have a good year
Most athletic- D.Rose hands down
Best Leader- Derrick Fisher say what u want about him hes a leader stands up to Kobe who listens to him an the leader of the players association best leader in my book
Best of all Time- The big O Oscar robinson average a triple double for an entire season nuff said

LBJKDParticipant1.Best? CP3 easily when healthy add this guy to any roster he will produce
2.Underrated? Chauncey Billups- mr.bigshot doesn’t get as much love as he deserves and his whole career has been like that.
3.Overrated? Rajon Rondo- Good defense and can pass above average. but if anyone of us had ray, garnett and peirce we coould get those assost numbers too. He just isn’t really developed on the offensive side.
4.Best Young? John Wall but if Tyreke counts as a point guard i think he makes a good case for himself 20,5,5?
5.Most Athletic? Derrick Rose and close second Nate Robinson but he doesnt utilize it in the game as much as drose does.
6.Best Leader? CP3 he is the GENERAL he calls all shots. Nash after words but ill go with over all team success with either of their all-star PF and CP3 takes that one.
7. Greatest? Mr.Magic Johnson

tdav005Participant1. Best PG right now? D.Will has the size the skills and the top notch game managing skills and he possesses the ability to make his teammates better. He also plays good D and can guard 2’s. I’d take him over CP3 becuase he is less injury prone and has better size to see over his defenders with the ability to shoot and score at will and take over a game.
2. Most underrated? Devin Harris has been on the trading block forever but he is better than a lot of other starting point guards he’s just been unmotivated but he has tons of game, and hes super quick and can score with the best of them.
3. Overrated? Rondo is one of my favorite players but he benefits from playing with a lot of shooters at every position and Doc Rivers system. Until he gets that jumper and free throw percentage up he’s overrated in my mind, even though he’s a good playoff performer.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? Easily John Wall for a first year PG he has it, wait until he develops somewhat of a jumper he will dominate. But, I like Russell Westbrook for overall the best in 3 years and he improves dramatically every year. I just think he has all the tools to be great defense, size, competitive and doesn’t back down.
5. Best Rookie PG? Kemba Walker will be given the green light in Charlotte and he gets buckets easily.
6. Most athletic? D.Rose/ R.Westbrook
7. Best leader? CP3 has a team of nobody’s and he almost single handedly took out the Lakers, he embarrased their franchise. But, he’s very passionate and people respect that.
8. Best All Time? Magic

kobyzParticipant1. Best PG right now? Chris Paul – no doubt on this, he is a master, the level and way he dominate the game, it’s special!
2. Most underrated? Mike Conley – not flashy or somthing, but play the right way, know how to run a team, just became an excellent and winning player.
3. Overrated? Russell Westbrook – i think he is not the elite player people make him, he have talent and tools but i think lack intangibles and nuances of the game.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? John Wall – great driver and good scorer but his passing is what make him exceptional, i see him leading the league in assists in a few years.
5. Best Rookie PG? Kyrie Irving
6. Most athletic? Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook
7. Best leader? Jason Kidd – hands down! so mature, composed and smart and polite, it’s unbelivible how he bring the best out of himself and his team’s talent, know every little thing about the game.

GottaBeTheShoesParticipant1. Best PG right now? Tie. Derrick Rose/Chris Paul. It depends what you want. Top notch facilitator with one of the best all around games in the NBA or a Scoring maniac who carries a team and has the ability to pass and is extremely athletic.
2. Most underrated?Derrick Rose/Nate Robinson. I was just going to say Nate Robinson but after the look of these posts Derrick Rose doesn’t get as much love as he deserves. Paul may have carried his team to the playoffs but Derrick Rose did too.. The bulls minus Boozer and Noah is no better than NOLA. Also UriNate i mean Nate Robinson gets too much crap for shooting 30 footers at random. A) He makes a lot of them. B) He doesn’t get enough PT. C) He averaged in 2009 in just 30 minutes of play 17 and 4.2. I still think Nate can be the guy he was in NY.
3. Overrated?Conley/Jameer. Conley was overrated when he entered the league. He then kind of went into hiding and reappeared last year and everyone was talking about him like he was a top 10 Pg but he still can’t produce every night while Jameer is nowhere near a starting PG. Can’t pass not a good scorer. Has the best bigman in the league and still can’t produce assists.
4. Best Young PG (less than 3 years in the league)? John Wall is definitely. So fun to watch future top 3 PG.. Just needs a consistent jumper and continued improvement to be a superstar.
5. Best Rookie PG? Kemba/Kyrie.. I think Kemba will be just fine in the NBA. I think Kemba can produce more than kyrie and is a better leader and scorer. Kemba proves everyone wrong but I keep Kyrie in this conversation too as I don’t doubt he could be a good nba player.
6. Most athletic?Derrick Rose/John Wall. I just want to give Wall some love here. He is not as athletic as Rose but he is close. John Wall is just as athletic as RW if you ask me. He is one of the fastest players in the NBA has a high vertical like Rose and is very explosive. While Drose is a freak of Nature athletically.
7. Best leader?Chauncey Billups.. Still the leader he was for the pistons.
8. Best All Time? I must start by saying sorry to Magic Johnson. I have to go with the big O. Only one to EVER average a triple double. Lebron isn’t even close to the big O let alone jordan. The big O had everything. Top notch scoring ability passing ability and was the best guard rebounder ever. But I will say that I would have given Magic more of a chance at this if he was an actual PG.. He was a PG in a PF’s body. I just don’t think he was a PG but more of a Point Forward.

StF616Participant1. Best PG right now – Derrick Rose, led his team to a Championship contender, still young and will be a great point guard for years to come.
2. Most underrated – I see Kyle Lowry Play every night. extremely underrated player, great passing ability good at drawing fouls and finishing. Good defender and rebounder and Hustles and never gives up on a play.
3. Overrated – Billups
4. Best Young PG – Not including Westbrook or Rose? John Wall
5. Best Rookie PG – Kyrie Irving, i dont see him being a superstar in the league. At his prime i see him as a borderline All-Star type player.
6. Most athletic – Russell Westbrook
7. Best leader – Jason Kidd
