Players shouldn’t wait till their old to try and get a ring. Young talented players should sign for the minimum on teams that they would put over the top for a championship. Get the championship out the way, then go get the biggest contract. Picture what that would’ve done for Iverson and Marbury’s legacies. Now they’ll never be mentioned with Kobe and Duncan.

Someone like Chris Paul goes to the Celtics, a Lebron goes to the Mavs, Bosh goes to the Spurs etc. etc. history shows those players win in the long run.

It doesnt happen like that because the younger these players are,the more they care about money and incentives. But when guys get older and realize that championships are what build legacies, they want to tag along for the championship choo-choo train. They aren’t as powerful as they were as they were in their prime and heydays…so they tag along without having to do too much work to play for the contenders. They see that money and statistics dont show real power as much as being apart of a team considered the best when your older…rings are what’s important to vets..

The Lottery. The Lottery gives the worst teams a chance to improve by selecting the best players every year. Some organizations can successfully build a team around the player they choose, others cannot. Those players cannot be chosen by good teams right away, unless a team trades up, and I don’t think the Mavs would even think to offer Lebron the minimum this summer. It’s a business plain and simple, its hard for an elite team to get another superstar unless they make a trade. I hear what you are saying, but this isn’t MLB where the Yankees with no cap can just load up every year. The salary cap prevents this and so do player agents, why sign for the best team in the league where you can sign with an existing playoff team, still put yourself in a place to win a championship and build your own legacy.

Yeah, for one you don’t have to put you name in the lottery. For two, endorsments can make up for an NBA contract and then some.

No you get your set self financially first and foremost. Who knows what could happen to you, get your money straight then worry about what team your on once you get paid.

fans and analysts aren’t dumb. If Paul doesn’t win a title, no one is gonna blame him. Just like people don’t blame Malone and stockton for not winning a title. In the same token, people are not gonna think Marbury is some legend if he won a title on some stacked team his first couple years.

Players need to just get their money and compete for whatever team they are on. Later in their careers they can choose to chase a title if they like.
