I understand the NBA is a business and the players have to look out for themselves as the owners can also be cutthroat but I feel like the players owe it to the fanbases to honor their contracts and respect the terms. Seems like everyones quick to demand a trade when things dont go their way. Everybodys not Lebron James and shouldnt have those privelages to decide where they play etc.

Jimmy Butler asking out of Minnesota with 1 year left on his contract after spending half of last year injured is so insulting to the franchise after they gave up all that talent to get him. Who knows what the situation is and what he truly intends to do but if the rumours are true and he’s refusing to suit up in preseason he should be heavily disciplined.

There should be a term in the CBA that states anybody who refuses to play while medically cleared to suit up should not be allowed to recieve any sort of compensation for X amount of years. Seriously they shouldnt even be allowed to play in the league and their contract should be null and void.

As far as Toronto trading for Jimmy Butler I dont know how I feel having one of those guys playing for my team, going all in to acquire a second just seems like a bad idea. All of sudden you tell this guy he needs to work harder for rebounding position and who knows he might just call his agent and demand an f’ing trade.

If a player refuses to play then a team can fine him what amount they can do I don’t know. It’s not like in some sports where players have transfer value in US sports it’s purely contract value. Could a team rip a contract up if a player refused to play I don’t know and they would lose his trade value too.

If he refused to play they could shut a player down for a year and just not play him but would that effect his next contract probably not.

Wasn’t there something that someone mentioned when the Kawhi saga was going on if they refuse to play then their contract can almost carry on until they have fulfilled it or the current team can stop them being a free agent.

I agree on them not being paid if they don’t play. That seems like an obvious no brained and im pretty sure teams would fine these guys for not showing.

As for demanding trades, I mean I understand teams trade guys all the time so I can understand where players feel it’s their right to dictate their careers. But yeah as a fan, I say it makes me dislike the guys who do that a little bit. But I guess if you’re gonna lose out on guy at end of year you might as well prefer to know it ahead of time. Worked out for pacers getting oladipo and sabonis. Spurs got nice little haul for Leonard. Wolves might still get some value for butler although his age and injury history combined with fact he wants some Max money and it’s debatable if he’s worth 35 mil a year or whatever it would be for him could hurt his value quite a bit.

Players don’t owe shh to the fanbase..this isn’t slavery…Look at IT, fan favorite wanted to be in Boston and they traded his azz..you have a kid’s mentality. End of the day the NBA is a business! Owners have to do what’s best for thier bottom line so the players should be able to do what’s best for thier bottom line..that’s how it works in the real world so what’s diffrent about the NBA??? People change jobs all the time..

Who said it was slavery? Why does it need to be pointed out that this is not slavery? We’re talking about two parties freely and willfully agreeing to exchange services for monetary compensation. Of course no individuals are being abducted and forced to labor against their will.

I bet 25% of these guys have never even worked a day in their lives dont let them fool you with that slavery bs.

Read the book "40 million dollar slave" and you’ll understand my concept. Restricted FA is not a form of slavery? In corporate america can your job put you on a "restricted" contract? NO.You can switch whenever you want or get fired, just like a team can trade you whenever you want. If a player doesn’t want to play in say Cleveland and want to sign in Miami and is a RFA, Cavs can match, that doesn’t happen in the real world. Also you have a cap on how much you can make. No cap in baseball, Lebron, Steph, KD, deserve waayyy more money then what they’re getting paid..

If you want to make a point about the advantages or disadvantages of the NBA contract structure compared to pro baseball or football, we’ll listen to that. But comparing a profession that an individual VOLUNTARILY enters with full understanding of the parameters of the league to an institution in which a human being is physically forced to work on pain of torture and considered property instead of a living human being is a dumb, stupid, irrational, unreasonable comparison and is a waste of everybody’s time.

Its noyt slavery its the agreement. The players and owners agreed to the CBA. They had the oppurtunity to decline.

Stop it. This is a business and everyone knows the risks involved. Minnesota made the decision to trade for butler knowing full well that it could come back to bite them in the ass. You could argue that he is actually doing them a favor by letting them know he intends to leave so they can at least get something in return. And just because he demands a trade doesn’t mean Minnesota is under any obligation to trade him. He is still under contract and they could force him to play this season for them. If he refuses to than he would lose his salary and free agency rights next summer.
