Lotto StudParticipantAgain I know you are a busy guy, but it will be a matter of time before the NCAA starts to kickoff heavy for us on the forum……I was wanting to know could you make a couple of these player profiles possible for us. I’m quite sure a couple other guys, also would like to know more about these Freshmen especially from you.
- Josiah Turner Arizona
- B.J. Young Arkansas

- Nick Johnson Arizona
- Dorian Finney-Smith Virginia Tech
- Khem Birch Pittsburgh

Chilbert arenasParticipantNick Johnson is a super athlete, I haven’t been this excited about a freshman at Arizona since Bayless.

JNixonParticipantAll of those guys need to play college games before profiles can be written for them. You don’t really know what you’ll get from those guys this early, but there is no rush.

NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantI don’t think a suggestion would hurt, but i think Aran will get to this without people bugging him about it. FYI it is a long time till’ the NCAA season, remember it’s only summer.Even if it’s a long summer because of no b-ball news. Damn you David Stern!

JNixonParticipant"If that’s the case why does Rivers, Davis, Miller, McAdoo etc have profiles? They proved just about the same thing as all the incoming Fr. prospects I listed which is NOTHING!"
They’ve proven to be better, more college ready prospects than any of the guys you have in your post. They also have legit chances to be better NBA prospects than your 1st post guys too. There is no rush with any of these guys, but the touted guys have proven to legitimately be on the NBA radarNone of those guys are legit 1-and-done prospects, except maybe Josiah Turner, depending on who you ask. And even still, Rivers and all those guys will be revisited by draft time next year more than likely.

Lotto StudParticipantCan I just have my moment? At least let Aran put the ammo in the pistol before you shoot me down.

butidonthavemoneyI was wondering how I missed Jabari Parker declaring to Oregon…
And Jorrye is right, you aren’t going to see any of these profiles prior to the start of the NCAA season. We like to see college games before writing analysis.

JNixonParticipantI go by the rating scale, you know how the tally system that says size, athleticism on the profiles? I watch the guys as much as I can, and just go step by step to using the rating scale and trying to stay as organized as I can with it. That’s all it is to me.

butidonthavemoney"how do some of u guys actually evaluate a prospect like u jorrye"
I like to watch every prospect exclusively, which can be rather time-consuming. That means I don’t take my eyes off of the player for the duration of his playing time. You can learn a lot by watching how somebody runs up and down the court, what kind of effort they put into defense, how they respond to coaching, what kind of screens they set, you know, things that kind of fly off the radar. I don’t know if this is how other people scout players, but it’s my favorite way to get a good feel on a player.
Then like Jorrye mentioned: watching a lot of footage is important. Advanced statistics can be useful and generally you can find crap like measurements on the Internet. Piece everything together, put some scouting lingo into it, proof read and you should have a solid evaluation.

Chilbert arenasParticipantDon’t get me wrong, I don’t think Nick Johnson is that great of a player, I just think he’s going to be one of the most exciting players to watch in college basketball. Along with that he’s a cocky trash talker who locks people up on D. I don’t think he’s much of a pro prospect because he’s an undersized shooting guard who can’t really shoot, but he didn’t make it on either the McDonalds or Jordan Classic teams so I wouldn’t call him overrated.
