Now obviously, player A has the better stats.  but they are still fairly close.  Player A is more efficient scorer, which in turn, allows him to score a few more ppg.

Can anyone guess who these players are?

 They’re both Derrick Rose… Player A is his MVP season. 

But if you’re trying to tell me he’s still somewhat similar, you’re sadly mistaken. Per 36 numbers don’t matter when you can’t play the 36.8 MPG he played before the injury, as opposed to only the 30.2 MPG he’s played since. 

Plus, he doesn’t attack as much, which hurts the amount of free throws he gets and the draw-and-kick opportunities to convert into assists. Also, isn’t the same finisher he once was and you’d think with attacking less, his turnovers would be down but they’re up. I mean, he better be at least a league average shooter if he wants to take 5.3 3PA in 30 MPG like he did last year.

He hasn’t shown that he is the guy he was and I have a hard time believing he’ll get there in the future.

 And not his actual stats from those years (2010/11′ & 2014/15")? Rose’s actual stats from 2010/11′ are 25.0 ppg, 7.7 apg & 4.1 rpg w/ a 44.5% FG% but he started 81 games & averaged 37.4 mpg…. Last season – 2014/15′ Rose averaged: 17.7 ppg, 4.9 apg & 3.2 rpg w/ a 40.5 FG% but he started only 51 games & averaged 30.0 minutes –

 I hope Rose regains his MVP form, but he seems to be regressing both professionally & personally…. Charles Barkley has a great quote about the per 36′ stats – it’s something along the lines of "if a guy could average those numbers for the whole game & for the whole year then he would…" 

But I think there is a better wuote to describe Rose & his apparent immaturity, it’s a boxing quote from Teddy Atlas: "Who you are outside the Ring ultimately reveals itself Inside the Ring…" It means that if you are a man people can depend on in your personal life -when No one is watching, then you will be a man that people can depend on in the ring or on the court, when Everyone is watching…

 How you play is just as important as the numbers. In his MVP season, Rose was a force of nature getting into the paint and collapsing defenses.  Last year, not so much.

 I think it’s a real longshot that we ever see the pre-injury rose again. I think he could still be a very good player, but I doubt he will ever physically get back to where he was in 2011. The toll of having three major knee surgeries and missing over 2 full seasons is something that I’m not sure any human being on the planet could overcome and expect to still be the same physically.

If rose is going to continue to be an upper echelon pg as he ages he is going to have to change his approach. Imo he has always been a guy that has played almost purely on instinct, which worked for him when he was physically at his peak. Now that he has lost a step those creases in the defense he was able to find before just aren’t there. He needs to become a smarter and more cerebral player, learning how to think the game out instead of just relying on his athleticism, and also learning how to adjust his game to get the best out of his teammates. I’d really like to see him focus on becoming more of a facilator this year, as it would better fit this current bulls roster. If he can’t make the necessary adjustments I could easily see his career going the way of Steve Francis.
