I’m curious, I’m from Michigan and listen to all the sports talk shows available to me.  But I can’t ever recall Dumars broadcasting publically what he thinks this team can accomplish.  I’m asking everyone else if they have any info about what he intends to do what he wants to do?

The thing is I actually and starting to like the Brandon Jennings acquistion.  Hear me out, I know he chucks the ball and boy does he ever.  BUT look on that team who else is capable of knocking down an outside shot.  Pope? and unfortunately that is about it.  The offense can’t run strictly through Monroe and Drummond taking every shot.  He is atleast trying to make the defense guard the perimeter a little. I think if you actually surround Jennings will viable talent on the wing you will see him actually flourish to what was once expected of it.  His combination of him and Drummond is really clicking and I love that he dares to make some of the passes he does.  It climbs that connection with Drummond of understanding what he is capable of doing and becoming.

I have yet to find a really good reason for the Josh Smith signing.  I believe at the time it was going to be part of a deal to get another player.  The front office has to be looking for anyone to take him.  There is just no way he fits.

Has anyone heard of Detroit being active come the deadline? any rumors?  I would literally be happy if Josh Smith was traded for free HBO for 6 months.  This team needs to be in the lottery if not top 5 picks to finally get that last piece and grow together.

If Detroit could some how secure a top 9 ( due to the trade with the Bobcats).  Could you imagine what they could become.  Adding a player like Gary Harris or James Young would make this team shine bright.  Obviously a top 5 pick would be huge for this organization but I wont reach for the stars.

I have really liked their drafts recently (Drummond, Monroe, Pope).

I have really dislike their FA signings (Smith, Gordon, Villanueva)

I know Knight wasn’t the answer at point, by why go for a volume shoot first PG again? Didn’t Joe learn from the AI trade? Why not try and get a Bledsoe (before he blew up this year, it was possible), Lowry, J Teague? And even if those guys are too high, why not save money and just get a back up like D Colison, Reggie Jackson, Greivis V, or CJ Watson.

They are stockpiling talent well, but they clearly do not have the right mix of players. Greg Monroe is their best and most efficient offensive player but is only 4th on the team in shot attempts. He will likely leave the team in the offseason and I don’t blame him one bit. Jennings is averaging 8.2 assists per game but is back to his old ways as an inefficient chucker putting up 15 shots a game at only a 37% clip. Smith is only shooting 40% from the field which is horrible for a player of his size and athleticism. He is also taking 4 threes a game which is what got him in trouble in seasons past- he just isn’t a good shooter from that range. Drummond has of course been a bright spot on this team with his defense and rebounding but team are starting to utilize a "hack-a-Drummond" method against him late in close games- which keeps him off the floor in the fourth quarter.

They need to move Monroe and get a shooter in that 3 spot to begin with. A guy like Hayward or Parsons would be a nice fit for them.

There biggest problem is Jennings, he really just is of very little use to Detroit with that contract. A pass first PG would be far more useful to them and Smith moving to the 4 spot.

8 assists a game isnt enough? he’s like 5 assists behind rubio for top 5 in the league for assists man.

Well as many people have said in various ways, Detroit really F’d up when they signed Josh Smith. Now their best and most effective offensive player is 4th in shots and hardly plays in the 4th quarter – Greg Monroe.

The 8 assists he is averaging isn’t the bad part of his game….. Someone who has the ball as much as Jennings does will rack up hefty assist totals. The fact that he takes 15 shots a game at only 37% from the field makes him the most ineffiecient scoring point guard in the league. He also has the worst adjusted field goal percentage for a point guard as well. OJ Mayo, JR Smith, Jennings and Trey Burke are the Four Horseman of bad shot attempts right now- they are the only four players in the league shooting below 40% from the field.
