Stuckey finally off the books next year. If they move on from him they need help at the two position. Win now: Gary Harris. Win in 3 years: Zach Lavine.

They need either a good SF to play alongside Josh Smith, or a new good combo guard.   If SF, then I think they should take Rodney Hood.   If combo guard, then I think they should go with Dante Exum.   If Exum isn’t available by that point,  then go with Stauskas.

If at 8 my draft order would be:

    1. Exum

    2. Smart

    3. Kyle Anderson or Gary Harris

Piston might want to look into drafting a true point guard (Kyle Anderson) or more depth at the 2 with Stucky off the books next year (Gary Harris).  I like Gary Harris with the 8th pick.  Harris and Caldwell-Pope are two promising young players at the 2 who can blossom if given the chance.

Anderson is a good pick as well, but as long as Jennings is there, he won’t play as much as I’d like him to.  If they found some way to get rid of Jennings, Anderson would be my first choice if available.

I think everyone expects Wiggins, Embiid and Parker to be gone by #8. I also think someone will reach for someone unexpected by the time #8 rolls around. That means one of the following will be available, and if I was the pistons, I’d take whichever is still there. I feel like there is a drop-off in talent after these guys so i’m using the "draft for talent, not need" philosophy. I like Gary Harris too, and he has Michigan love, so he’s my next choice.

    Julius Randle

    Dante Exum

    Noah Vonleh

    Marcus Smart

Yeah sorry guys but they won’t be around at 8.  I admire the wishful thinking though.  I would say that have a legitimate shot at Harris, Hood etc.  Randle most certainly won’t be around and neither will Exum.  Vonleh could easily get picked ahead of Randle, I just don’t see any of the above mentioned falling.  I think McDermott would be a nice fit next to the defensive minded Smith and Drummond.  Or if they want someone more rounded Hood projects to be a better defender.

I guess it’s always possible they luck out in the lottery and jump into the top 3, but statistically speaking they will be looking at the 2nd tier of prospects, which definitely contains some good players.

You’re taking Mcdermott at 8 (Ridiculous) because you’re so sure that theres no chance of the Randle, Exum, Smart or Vonleh being around?

Mock Drafts aren’t an exact science. If one of those 3 isn’t available at 8 I’ll personally guarantee to leave this site and never come back, and I want you to hold me to that. It only takes 1 "reach" and one of them will be available. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t 2 of them available.

And when I use the term "reach", this site had Anthony Bennett at #10, and Alex Len at #1 last year.

I’m sorry but why take Harris? I know he has Michigan State ties but why take a 2 gaurd in the top 10 two years in a row? It’s not like KCP is useless he is a good rebounded and shooter. I think they should target Kyle Anderson who would give them an point foward who could make every happy with his passing. I also think playing with Drummond with Smith could have cover up his defensive weaknesses.

is a pretty bad defender, aside from his shot blocking.  Can’t defend the PNR to save his life and gets beat up in the post.

I agree, no need to take a sg two years in a row. What do they need? A sf. I just don’t see Detroit being able to keep Monroe. And considering that they most likely cannot move Smith, their best chance to field a competitive team is to start Smith at pf alongside the man child. With that said, a sf is needed. McDermott brings the shooting they need, but I am just not a fan. I see him being an end of the bench player. Hood or Anderson will be the pick, giving the edge to Anderson bc his game is a poor man Tayshaun Price. We know how bad Dumars is trying to mimic that championship winning squad. As for Monroe, and I know it’s not the popular choice, I say they sign and trade him for some vets. A veteran sg and sf to man those positions told Pope and their rookie sf is ready.

Why am I getting negged and anyone else for that matter when we don’t think the pistons should take Harris? It makes almost no sense and would almost destroy KCP confidence? Those who negged please explain? I really just want someone to justify the harris pick for me

I take it those who negged you believed that the T’Wolves ’09 Draft made sense as well.

I am only writing this for the sake of getting back into the positive.

    Gary Harris = Michael Jordan.

I take Stauskas. They might be able to get more upside but they need shooting and just some overall solid floor play. I think he’d be the perfect fit there,

I think they should just take the best player available. There are a lot of solid players available at eight, but maybe they should just take the player that falls to them.

i like them taking a sf since they just selected kcp the previous year.

    my preference would be:

    1.  kyle anderson – ability to let jennings play off the ball is something that could help ball movement on offense.

    2.  aaron gordon – high potential, his jump shot will improve, but he can play defense and rebound right away.  drummond can’t offensive rebound all those smith and jennings bricks by himself.

    3.  rodney hood – they could use a shooter to spread the floor.  hood poses less risk than doug mcdermott.

I think they go BPA here. Harris is a better player than KCP and if he’s there I wouldn’t fault them for that pick. Let’s be clear here, the pick is basically a gift that they didn’t plan on having. The real problems lie with the front office, coaching, and roster makeup. So basically everywhere else. Maybe they could package the pick with one of they’re Pf’s and balance out the roster..
