 This is another pick where I find myself stuck. I think the two obvious top candidates if available are John Henson and Meyers Leonard. Henson’s more NBA ready and compliments skills nicely, while Meyers Leonard possesses more upside and will allow Monroe to slide to PF. Also, a dark horse candidate that I’ve read about is Arnett Moultrie. The Pistons really like his size, athleticism, and his rebounding ability. I found it interesting that Moultrie was the only 1s round prospect that the Pistons scheduled to work out, I’m not sure how much to read into that. 

With that being said, who do you think the Pistons go with at 9?

Signs point to John Henson , but hell I don’t have any confidence in who is going where after 6 or 7 so my basis for Henson is based off the fact the general consensus from pundits is it’s him plus he worked out for them and spent a lot of time talking to Dumars and co.

… he is not NBA ready. Who is taking him if the pistons do not take him at #9? If they really want him they should trade out of that position.

mind see him in Detroit but I feel he slips to Milwaukee at 12 and Drummond lands at #9. A Monroe/Drummond front court would be interesting. I like Henson as more of a can contribute now player than Drummond, but who knows.

As of right now I think they draft Meyers, but Henson is certainly a possibility. Tyler Zeller is a possibility too.

I think they take Henson. His defensive shot blocking and run jump ability will complement Monroes game. Monroe already proved he’s very good at the 5 spot.

They should trade this pick because all the guys they need they could get later in the draft. But if they end up keeping it, probably either Henson or Leonard(or, as I’ve seen on a few mocks, Drummond, if he slips that low).

Leonard fits best. They’ve shown they can develop bigs and he’s a much better prospect than Henson.  Henson is similar to Mbah a Moute, so I don’t see why Milw would even look at him.

Im probably alone in this, but in my mock i have the pistons taking Jeremy Lamb. last year they took the best player that slipped and it worked out wonderfully for them, dont see why they dont take the same route. i know they dont need a shooting guard right now, but i dont think Gordon or Stuckey as long term fixtures in their team. this team will be built around Monroe(22), Knight(21), and another key young player to serve as part of their core. Stuckey who is 26 can help the pistons now but will be almost 30 when their young talent have honed their skills to make them relevant in the east play-off picture.

why not use this draft to take that 3rd scoring option. there will be other complementary players that they can plug into in future drafts or in free agency when the time comes that they acquire them, but before then, its important to build your young core of talents together. selecting Lamb at the 9th pick to fill in that void of a promising, young(20) swingman to develop and grow with their other two promising draftees could go a long way for them in the future.

 If they take Lamb, they should move Stuckey for a pick or something. No need to overload on guards again. However I doubt Dumars will ever get rid of Stuckey since he’s obsessed with him

Why would they move Stuckey? If anything Gordon would be the guy that gets traded.

With Gordon’s contract it will be a miracle to move him. Stuckey is the player on the Pistons with the most value outside of Knight and Monroe which are commonly viewed as untradeable

With big men getting more versatile and smaller at the PF position I dont think Henson’s lack of girth will hurt him too much. He is extremely versatile and still rapidly improving as an offensive threat. How many PF’s in the NBA this day in age kill you in the post? There are way more mid range shooters and when henson gets his body filled out to around 230 he will be a dynamic combo with Monroe
