I really like the Pistons chances to pick up a useful player at 8.  It wouldn’t surprise me is someone drops from above them and falls into their lap, sort of like how Monroe and Drummond fell a few spots from where the mocks had them.

I would really like to see them get Herzonja.  While it is always a little uneasy trying to project 10 or 15 productive Euro minutes per game into the NBA, it looks like this kid has spunk and will be fun to watch.

I also hope Detroit get Hezonja at 8. Unfortunately I think he’ll be gone by then. Unlike Aran, Detroit will not pick Lyles at 8. No chance after trading for Ilyasova.

If not Hezonja, I’d be happy with any of the wings – Winslow or Johnson. The only PF I would take is Porzingis, but he’ll be gone by then.

Not sure how wise it would be to base your draft decisions on the presence of a 28-year-old ham-and-egger like Ilyasova. Seeing as:

    1) Whoever they pick may (more than likely) take a few years to mature.

    2) Certainly Ersan can be just as "effective" off the bench.

The three is a bigger need. My consternation regarding the 8th pick is more to do with the fact that Lyles is a reach in the top 10, let alone 8. Turner, Kaminsky, or even Portis I would rate higher than Lyles.

I’m hoping for trill will. If he can shoot like he shot in his workout video then, I’m down. Best defender in this class and if he add’s an offensive game, watch out. He could play at the 4 with Drummond and back him up also.

van gundy came out after getting ilyasova and said he wss very happy he now had 4 starters he was very comfortable with  – jennings, kcp, ilyasova and drummond. this clearly spells out the pistons expectations with jackson and monroe, and for the draft, where theyre looking at a 3. i dont know their preference, but im expecting they will take winslow, hezonja, johnson or dekker.

Detroit want to make the playoff next year, Hezonja so no ready and will not saw any minutes, imo he also weaker prospect than other wings, they rather take Johnson…

He’s been a pro in Europe for a few years now competing against grown men, having to earn his spot in a very competitive environment. He’ll need some adjustment, but I think he’s actually one of the more NBA ready prospects for that reason.

If he can’t get any playing time in Spain how he gonna get minutes on an nba team? He has a lot to learn on how to play the game…

He was getting minutes… right up until his coach realised he was going to declare for the NBA draft. Then his minutes dried up quickly as they figured why play a guy who isn’t going to be there next year?

I agree with you that he has much to learn about the NBA game. But with his ability I think the adjustment period will be shorter than for most Euros. Besides, Detroit isn’t contending next year and anything is an upgrade over the Singler/Butler/Martin/Prince combo.

BS, his coach is a good human and will not let unprofessional things like that to decide him who play, Hezonja was just so immature as a player… Ok you had one so now i have also a conspiracy theory, Hezonja agents and his camp ask the team not to give him minutes in order to hide how weaker prospect he is than think so he get drafted higher…

They wouldn’t have signed him in the first place if they didn’t think he had ability. I’m not suggesting his coach is being unprofessional, merely practical. If you were a coach and had to decide between 2 equal players, but you knew one was leaving, you would give more minutes to the player staying so their talents are developed.

Johnson as a pick makes too much sense for the Pistons for me.

I keep saying this but Hezonja and Stan Van Gundy will clash.. Hezonja would be perfect with Sacramento and George Karl.. Hezonja can be a bit of a headcase, and we all know Van Gundy is a hardass it just wouldn’t work.

Think Hezonja will be gone before the Pistons pick.

Some mocks have Hezonja going to Vlade Divac and Sacramento.  He might, but the Kings would not be a good fit for him with black hole Rudy Gay and Demarcus Cousins demanding the ball.

For the Pistons, I like Stanley Johnson if they go SF, Frank Kaminsky if they go PF and Devin Booker if they go SG.  Kaminsky has some Dirk in his game which would be a good fit next to the interior play of Drummond.

I think with Ersan in the mix I think a shooter like Hezonja would be great not only because of his spot up/scoring ability but his passing ability also. He’s definitely going to make bonehead plays shots passes but for what we have now he’d make that lineup lethal and I think anyone who really watches Detroit would agree. Sure the defense might suffer but at the same time we need someone other than our PG other than Jackson and Jennings that can handle the ball. I don’t think Hezonja is a go to iso guy this year but at least he would keep the ball moving and his shot alone is going to gives defenses hell so for those reasons I think he’s option A for Detroit. If not I still think you need to focus soley on shooting. Granted if Winslow somehow falls to 8 you take him and figure a way to make it work but I’d rather seem them just take the top shooter like Booker who could someday play SF or maybe even Turner or whoever because I think we’ve found this year is that if you have good floor spacing and versatility like GS, you can rely on your offense to win games because by going all out playing to your strengths your going to cause hell for that other team to find a way to stop you. So like I’ve felt from the get go we need a wing shooter or someone to play the 5 that can hit shots. You can easily throw Drummond out to guard the PF on most teams so maybe if you had Kaminsky (not that i want him at 8) or Turner to guard a lesser starting 5 or a backup I think you can live with it for periods.

They pick WCS and he’s traded to the knicks for winslow, calderon and hardaway.

I don’t think there is anyway Henzonja gets to them as he won’t make it past Kings and Nuggets both. I do think they go SF taking Stanley Johnson since they got their stretch 4 in Ersan Iysova. Johnson would give them a great wing defender to go with the already great Drummond down low plus he can help space the floor as he has become an improved shooter and will continue to improve in that area.

Johnson worries my a little mainly due to the release point of his J.  He will be able to hold his own physically, but I can see that shot getting slapped back in his face.
