Jazz have Big Al, Millsap, Favors, Kanter, Okur -need to upgrade guard position

Pistons have Stuckey, Gordon, Rip, Brandon Knight, Bynum, Prince.-need to upgrade frontcourt

    Any good suggestions?

Maybe Big Al or Millsap straight up for Stuckey

Man that logjam in Detroit is something serious. Let’s look at the guard position alone:

    Will Bynum

    Rodney Stuckey

    Ben Gordon

    Terrico White

    Brandon Knight

    Tracy McGrady

    Rip Hamilton

So who to trade? And for what?

Well they’re looking to build around a backcourt of Brandon Knight at the point and Rodney Stuckey playing off the ball. Bynum is a competent backup, and I think they like White’s potential. It’s going to be very difficult to move Ben Gordon and his massive contract and McGrady is a free agent.

Rip Hamilton is the most likely to be moved in my opinion. Not sure the Jazz are interested, as they are still high on Raja Bell to be a mentor to Burks, Hayward and Miles.

Good point about the two teams needing to trade. Maybe Hamilton and Prince (sign and trade) for Jefferson and Raja Bell?

Obviously they’d be targetting hamilton due to last years issues and he has the biggest contract.

also im pretty sure McGrady isnt under contract for next year.

Seems to make sense – utah too many forwards – pistons too many guards

    from rotoworld

The Jazz talked about trading Paul Millsap on draft night, according to the New York Daily News.

After drafting Turkish C Enes Kanter third overall, the Jazz certainly have a logjam up front. Millsap did play the small forward spot at times last year, but it clearly isn’t his natural position. With Derrick Favors and Al Jefferson also in need of minutes, a trade makes some sense. If no deal goes down, the minutes here may become cramped.
    ——————————

I would love to see Milsap in a pistons uniform – not sure how they would do it with all those big pistons contracts…

Theres gotta be SOMETHING we can do that would involve either Stuckey or Gordon(or maybe BOTH) going to Utah for Jefferson. It just seems to make sense for both sides. Both of us are rebuilding. Utah already has enough young bigs and Detroit has a lot of gaurds for the future. I’m hoping theres something we can pull off. Maybe Jefferson for Stuckey, Villanueva, and a future 1st rounder. Just a thought.

Dont get me wrong. As much as I’d love to see that Rip/Bynum for Jefferson trade go down its not going to happen. Utah is rebuilding, and Rip is going to want to go to a contender. And with about $20 million left on his contract, it’s not like some team is just going to buy him out. I say try swapping BG(and others) for Jefferson. He’s younger, and would fit better with what Utah is trying to do right now(at least in my opinion).

Btw, for those of you Piston fans that are as sick of Charlie Villanueva as I am, try THIS idea out for size:

    ORLANDO GETS: Charlie Villaneva

DETROIT GETS: Brandon Bass and Quentin Richardson.

Question: What did you notice about the Orlando Magic of the last two years(more successful) that you did not see this year(less successful)?? Answer: THE "STRETCH-FOUR". I think Villanueva would be almost a perfect fit at power forward for Orlando because, while he can do a little work inside, his main strength is basically OUTSIDE where he’s a very good 3-point shooter. The Magic have shown us that they play their best when the offense runs through getting Dwight Howard the ball inside, and then either a) having him dominate down-low, or b) having him kick out to the FOUR three point shooters on the outside. Meanwhile, Bass & Richardson give us a small forward and a power forward that, combined, would save us cap room by about $4 million over the next 3 years plus Bass plays a lot more inside, which is what we need right now. Anyways, just another thought I had. What do you think?

As a Jazz fan we don’t need the 2’s your trying to unload, what the Jazz need is tall , long athletic 3’s,  Daye, Jerebco (sp), maybe Prince.  We can resign Watson to back up Harris and Burks can be the 3rd point.  Hayward and CJ Miles are best suited to play the 2, Burks is a 2, unless we resign AK , we don’t really have a 3, CJ and Hayward can play the 3 but their best position is the 2. Prince is getting old, so I’m not sure the FO of the Jazz would go for him but he is the kind of player we could use.  Prince, & Daye & a draft pick for Jefferson would work for me.

UTAH GETS: Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye, Terrico White, and two future 2nd round picks

      DETROIT GETS: Al Jefferson

      How does that sound?

I like it but honestly I think you are overvaluing Jefferson a tad.  Eliminate either the 2 seconds or White and it is a bit more of a fair deal.  Each team gets better and frees up minutes.

@apb540: Are you serious?? Well for arguments sake, heres what I would do if I was Mr. Dumars. I would first propose the deal WITHOUT White or the 2 2nd-rounders. Then if they said "no", I’d include one 2nd rounder. Then if they STILL refused, I’d throw in the other 2nd-rounder. Then finally if they still said no I’d include White in my final offer.

By the way, for those of you fellow Piston fans, for what its worth heres two OTHER ideas I had to help us clear the logjam we have at gaurd:

    Trade 1)

CHICAGO RECIEVES: Richard Hamilton & Terrico White

DETROIT RECIEVES: Kyle Korver & Ronnie Brewer

    Trade 2)

MINNESOTA RECIEVES: Ben Gordon, Austin Daye, Terrico White, and a future 2nd round pick

DETROIT RECIEVES: Michael Beasley & Martell Webster

Again, these are just IDEAS!! Each of these trade scenarios would clear a path for either Rip or BG to be our starting 2-gaurd(I’d worry about the Stuckey situation AFTER one of these deals was consumated) Plus, they help balance our team position-wise. Less gaurds(note: Webster and Korver are small forwards), more forwards.

So those are my deals. Take them for what their worth.

Okur and Millsap for Rip and maxiell. Kanter is obviously Okur’s replacement plus Okur is injury prone. Millsap is the odd man out in Utah because of Jefferson post play and favor’s upside. Hamilton would bring instant and reliable offense to the Jazz’s half court game and he is a reliable defender. Maxiell is a explosive hard nosed player who can get dirty. The great thing about the jazz getting Rip a role model for Alex burks.  Pistons need a rebounder like Millsapp!  Millsap is the type of player detroit is known for! He reminds me of corlis williamson a bit! Plus Millsap would look real beasty next to Monroe, daye, stuckey and knight. That’s a legit Five for the Pistons.

But I don’t think, they could match together !

The Jazz need a scoring SF and the Pistons don’t have a good one under contract… the Pistons need a real defensive presence in the paint and with all the bigs that got Utah in his roster, I don’t think anyone of them could fit !

I think the Jazz should think about this trade, it will bring wing scoring and athleticity :

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3ts9axz

Perhaps, for the Pistons, it would be more difficult to find the perfect fit but this trade could clear some cap space for next year :

ive felt this way for years, utah needed a solid vet(hamilton) with deron, shoulda done this 2 years ago would have been a good fit.

detroit only has 2 white players, jerebko and newbie singler, not sure who you could get with that from salt lake.

what  a minute, i knew something was up when detroit drafted kyle singler. must of been to package him. hopefully with singler being extra white they could package him with stuckey and take a shot at favors.

utah gets a young stud in stuckey and a super athletic backcourt with harris and burks and another honkey (bonus!)

and pistons get a scary frontcourt of the future with favors and monroe. in fact joey d, get on the horn and add whatever you must to make this happen.

Jazz shouldn’t get involved unless Brandon Knight is on his way to Utah on the very next flight. Dumars was really high on Stuckey, but he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. If I’m Dumars then I plan to build the backcourt around Knight, with Bynum as a backup. Stuckey has got so-so size for the 2 guard spot, but was used to the ball in his hands, much like Knight. If somehow Utah could send out Big Al and get back Knight with no burdensome contracts, that would be great.

Big Al is staying at least for one more year. Why am I saying this, because when Big Al goes someone down low has to live up to his production. Since all these deals involve Utah getting a 2 or a 3 they obviously can’t make up for Jefferson’s production down low. Since they all play up top. Someone has got to protect the post. (Prince and Daye certainly are not protecting the post like Big Al can) Which means that one of Utah’s current players would have to make up for Jefferson. (Kanter or Favors) Both are young. Both are learning. One is still raw and needs to develop. I don’t think he’d be ready to make up for Jefferson. (Favors) Not now at least, and that is what is important. (Why: because with the lineup the Jazz have now, thanks to the draft, they can legitimatally make the playoffs, but if Big Al leaves and no one makes up for his production then you can say goodbye to the playoffs. I don’t think the Jazz will be satisfied with that) The other hasn’t played basketball competitively for an entire year, maybe more. (Kanter) Yes, he has a lot of potential and could probably make up for Jefferson in the future but right now he is probably still a bit rusty. So, sorry but unless the Jazz can get someone who can play Center or Power forward and could legitamatally make up for Jefferson right now, not in the future, than I do not see the Jazz trading Jefferson. Not at least for one more year, when both Kanter and Favors will be more ready and more developed to make up for Jefferson.

Even though Jefferson will most likely be staying I still think that Kanter will get playing time. Why: because Millsap is better as a backup. Not a starter. Yes, he could play the 3 next year, but I’d be willing to bet that it won’t be the starting 3. Probably the backup 3. I’ll say it again, this is what I project the lineup to be next year:

    1. Harris/Watson
    2. Miles/Burks/Bell
    3. Hayward/Millsap
    4. Jefferson/Favors
    5. Kanter/Fez

Probably the best deal for the Jazz would be to ship Millsapo to OKC for Manor, Aldrich and a future 1st rounder.

This gives Utah some youth at PG especially with the way that Manor played in the playoffs. He may be the future at PG or he may be a career back-up either way he solidifies the PG position and will definately be better than Watson in 2 years when it will really matter to the Jazz. They also get to roll the dice on a defensive back-up big man to compliment Favors, Kanter and Jefferson in Alrich while aquiring a future draft pick.

This is obvious for OKC as it gives them the inside scoring they need. Possible involving Sefolosha and eitehr Raja Bell or Miles may make this more enticing of a trade to take place all the way around.

    What do you think?
