With all this talk about Evan Turner and Derrick Favours/Enes Kanter all needing to play increased minutes or ideally a starting role, I wondered if there could be any legs in either a Millsap for Iggy trade or Jefferson for Iggy or even swapping Turner for one of Favours or Kanter. Both teams were 8th seeds this year and are still in some sort of rebuilding mode, so they would look to stay relevant whilst trying to improve their long term prospects.

Philly having been out of the play off picture for a few years until Coach Collins took over would not want to slip back into the lottery if they could help it but as 8th seeds they would always be vulnerable to other teams coming past them and so perhaps feel they do need to strengthen anyway. Utah having lost Coach Sloan and D-Will went into rebuild but still made the play offs this year although an early exit to the Spurs is likely, Philly could well be an awkward package for the Bulls minus D-Rose but we would expect the Bulls to progress as number one Eastern seeds.

There has been talk about trading Iggy for a couple of years and since Philly drafted Turner, it is still not clear if they can play together and both be effective and as Turner turns 24 this year, he really needs regular starter minutes. Also Iggy’s trade value may well be as high as it is going to be and so if Philly are going to cash in on him, now might be the time to do so especially as Turner is a ready made replacement.

Utah have an effective scoring frontcourt in Jefferson and Millsap but again have two young talents on the bench in Kanter and Favours with Favours in particular now needing to start seeing increased minutes. Again Utah perhaps have Jefferson and Millsap at their highest trade value so may look to create a vacancy to get Kanter and Favours more playing time.

I like the idea of a deal between these two teams as they are both at the same level and the move could be of mutual benefit to both teams, salaries may not balance but that could be overcome and although an Iggy for Jefferson/Millsap would be my favoured deal you could even have Turner for Favours or Kanter which would be unlikely but might just happen. There could be something like Brand and Turner for Jefferson plus a pick for example.

I wondered what people thought of this as a basis of a trade between these two teams and what their favoured deal would be. If I had to make a choice I’d say Millsap and a pick for Iggy. This way Philly can allow Turner to take over the Iggy role and Millsap gives them a ready made replacement for Brand. Next season Brand could move across to 5 or play around the younger guys and it gives them an extra year to develop whilst Brand is still there. I think that Coach Collins would like Millsap as a player more than Jefferson as although Jefferson is a good post player, he’s not a noted defender which Doug Collins tends to like and Millsap will always give you a lot of hustle and he is awkward for long thin guys to mark down low due to his bulk.

Utah get Iggy giving them a solid starting 5 and allows Iggy to form a nice 2/3 combo with Gordon Hayward. Moving Millsap means they keep the higher scoring Jefferson and allows either Kanter or Favours to start at PF and provide defence and back up scoring to Jefferson.

    *Favors

Could be a good idea though, if Utah wouldn’t mind committing another $16 million to the payroll in 2014. Jefferson and Millsap are free agents next year.

I would trade Iggy for Jefferson and Amnesty Brand and try to trade up for Sullinger ….then they could try to bring in a scorer and parts with the cap space left from Hawes, Nocioni, Sam Young, and Meeks

I think there are going to be a ton of Philly/Utah trade ideas from here until the draft.  It just seems like two teams that need to trade with each other imo.  Let’s see what this Sixers squad can do in their remaining playoff games and go from there.

I would do Holiday for Kanter.

Brand wont be an amnesty hes playing good maybe not worth his contract but its a huge lose for them and a playoff run in the future if they were to amnesty brand.

Turner is’nt going anywhere any time soon top 3 wing out of the 2010 draft class other being Paul and Gordon. Why move him when more then half the draft class wont be around in 5 to 6 years and he’s producing on a winning team playing gaurd unlike the top pick of that draft.

I think a Turner for Favors swap would be more realistic than a Iggy for Millsap swap.  Elton Brand and Thaddeus Young are already solid 4s for the Sixers, and a Brand/Millsap/Young frontcourt may lack some size.  Brand would likely slide to center and Young may play some sf in place of Iggy, but I don’t think that is ideal.  I also think that Iguodala is a little underrated and his loss would really hurt the Sixers.

A Turner for Favors swap would be beneficial for both teams.  Favors would be a long-term upgrade at the center position for Philly and Turner seems like a good fit for the Jazz, who like 2-guards who can pass and handle the ball well (See their use of Gordon Hayward and their use of 2-guard line-ups during the Deron Willams era).

As a Utah fan, I can agree that there is high trade potential between these teams.  However, some of the ideas are clearly from a Philly perspective.

For example, Milsap and a pick = Iggy?  In reality, it should be the other way around.  Milsap is playing at a higher level individually than Iggy.  He averages more points, boards, steals and blocks while shooting a substantially higher fg% and holding a 4 point PER advantage.  Plus, Milsap is being paid $5M less per year than Iggy.

Overall, a Sap-for-Iggy deal may (or may not) improve the Jazz as a team, but giving up more than a straight 1for1 swap would be crazy for Utah and they’d never do it.  Additionally, Kevin O’Conner is a very shrewd negotiator.  He tends to max out his traded assets.

Also, a Favors for Turner trade will never happen.  The Jazz are convinced Favors is a light at the end of a tunnel and there’s no way they’d trade him for a guard that can’t shoot (even if I think Turner is going to become great).  I could, however, see a Kanter-for-Turner trade or a trade involving Milsap or Al that included Turner.  I think Turner is going to be a great player, but it doesn’t seem like people around the league are that high on him right now, so I don’t know what his trade value is.  And Iggy’s trade value is in question simply because he carries a massive contract.  Not every team could pay $13M/year for a 12/6/5 player.

On second thought, you are probably right, bloodshy.  Trading Favors would be a risk for the Jazz that they probably wouldn’t take.  I would say a Kanter trade though would be a good idea, as his skill set is slightly redundant with Favors.  They could play together, but getting Turner would be quite a catch.

Thanks for the feedback, I’m always a bit reluctant to post trade ideas so I do try and think them through and this one just seemed an interesting idea to me.

As you may know I’m a Phoenix fan so I’m fairly neutral towards Philly and Utah although I respect both teams and was just looking for a way to maybe help both teams progress. I maybe did think about it more from the Evan Turner prospective as he turns 24 this year and needs good minutes whilst Kanter and Favours are both a bit younger so maybe can be allowed more time to develop.

Philly turned over Chicago again last night with Turner having another big game and Utah made the play offs maybe when they weren’t expecting to so both teams are moving forward and we’ll have to see how things pan out.

Utah could easily run a 3 man big rotation or more for the next year or so and if Coach Collins can use Iggy and Turner effectively together the Philly may well wait for Brand to expire and get an additional big man FA next summer with their cap space.
