There was a thread earlier about the return of the big man and this is kind of my take on it. Every time I hear this I think of Shaq and how he stated Duncan isn’t a top big man as in his eyes he was a PF not a C throughout his career.

I started thinking about the upcoming “big men” in the league now and by Shaqs definition there are very few left.

I look at the young guys who have potential at the big man spot and I think they would all have been PF’s 10 years ago. Cousins(Still has bit of old-school to him), Davis,KAT, Porzingis (plays PF however I ultimately see him as new age C) , Turner have all shown great potential and to me will be the face of that change in how we few the big man over the next 10 years.
I get that guys like B.Lopez, Horford, M.Gasol etc have shown a really nice face-up game, but it has been over the last 2-3 years that they have started to push that envelope and become long range shooters the other guys step in with that potential out of college.

As much fun as guys like DeAndre Jordan, Dwight Howard and Andre Drummond are really fun to watch I’m not sure how many more of these kind of guys we will see going forward.

I got negged and deservedly.  I don’t have league pass so I haven’t been able to watch everyone’s game.  I usually go off a single game I watch, and in many instances, I can see if a player wows me or not.

But my whole point was to discuss the big man in today’s era, categorize what the big man is today, we have several different categories in the internationalized game, and then rank them as to how they will project by the end of the year.

I gotta watch more ball, but this was my idea.  Let’s see the state of the bigman, because I do beleive we have some solid matchups now, with KAT Davis Cousins Embiid Gasol and Horford (even though he gets dwarfed by a guy like Embiid) etc, proper 1 on 1 matchups in the post with centers going at each other.

There will never be another Shaq, or Kareem or Dream or Russell or Wilt….but let’s categorize the big man relative to then.

I totally hear what you are saying, but those 1 on 1 post match-ups will be a rare thing going forward. Guys now are kind of either mid-range shooters or catch and dunk players.

There are a few guys with some good post moves, but I find that they are more likely to shot a short fade away than power through their defender or back them down to finish with a nice hook. Bogut, Big Al a few others still have that classic back to the basket game but they are the old boys of the league now.
