SteroidParticipantDoes anyone think the Rudy Gay comparison fits Perry Jones?
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/16/2010 - 8:39am #355427

JNixonParticipantI just made that comparison on my Big 12 prospects thread lol.

Demarcus OnealParticipantBut Perry Jones is 2-3 inches taller but i think he is more like Anthony Randolph sinmce neither have reached their potential

SteroidParticipantYeah, I know. I just wanted to see what others think about it. I haven’t watched actual film on him, but I heard he is described to be like Rudy Gay how he disappears when he doesn’t have the ball in his hand, etc..

JNixonParticipantAnthony Randolph isn’t the type of pure scorer Rudy Gay is or Jones has the potential to be. That’s why I don’t like the comparison as much.

ScareCrowsRevengeParticipantIs he that soft…Gay though???
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/16/2010 - 9:13am #355448

Demarcus OnealParticipantAnthony Randolph doesnt have pure scoring ability he averaged 26.8 points per game in sl even though and it doesnt mean anything it shows that he is defintetly a pure scorer and he scored 42 in one game if thats not a pure scorer then i dont know what one is

Toronto16ParticipantRandolph is not as good a shooter as Perry Jones.

TONYDABOSS77ParticipantHe’s Like The 2010 KG . .
(Thats Whats On Durant’s Profile On Here)

JNixonParticipantIt’s something about Randolph. He has scoring ability, but he’s never going to be an elite scorer. And yeah, Summer League isn’t a good way to judge the way a player scores. Anthony Morrow had 50 in the SL last year, and he’s not a pure scorer by any stretch. He’s a shooter.
And as churchboy said, Randolph isn’t the jump shooter Jones is. Randolph is capable of setting up an offense as a “point-forward” too, Jones doesn’t operate like that at all. They both are tall and have perimeter skills, but Jones and Randolph don’t play that much alike.

Demarcus OnealParticipantwell i still think they are simliar and Nba draft.net has Perry Jones nba comparisons as Tracy McGrady and Anthony Randolph so im not the only one who feels that way
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/16/2010 - 9:48am #355463

JNixonParticipantHow can you be comparable to Anthony Randolph and Tracy McGrady? I wouldn’t listen to that.
Tracy McGrady was an elite scorer (one of the best in NBA for a good period of time) who was merely decent on the glass and didn’t play the post as much as Randolph does (being a PF).
Randolph isn’t going to be an elite scorer, is a great rebounder and shot-blocker, and plays the post more than McGrady because he’s a PF. How can you compare a SF/PF to a SG/SF?

Demarcus OnealParticipantHey i didnt make the Tracy McGrady comparison Nbadraft.net did

JNixonParticipantYou said “I’m not the only one who feels that way”

sheltwon3ParticipantRandolph is not the same as T mac, he is a different type of scorer right now because he is not strong on the perimeter. Also if you discount summer league which has more talent than college and high school should not college and high school numbers be discredited.

ScareCrowsRevengeParticipantI really want to see the next KG come along…
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/16/2010 - 12:56pm #355580
stanford hoopsRandolph was a better scorer at the same stage. Perry wasn’t even a elite scorer on the highschool level. He had a couple single digit games while only putting up 17 a game in a average leauge on a average team
0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/16/2010 - 12:59pm #355582

Demarcus OnealParticipantI was talking about the Randolph comparison not the T-mac one
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/17/2010 - 1:31pm #356243

dipt1982ParticipantHe doesn’t have the range that Rudy Gay has…his jump shot looks a little shaky, something to improve on. But he has a tenacity at going to the rim, that’s why if I had to make a comparison, it would be of a younger Kevin Garnett, he was vicious attacking the basket early in his career, and gained his mid-range jumper as he furthered his career. T-Mac similarities are there, but again, the jump shot is nowhere near that of McGrady or Gay…Plus the whole size thing, Gay is a swingman, Jones will most likely have to gain a few pounds and play the 4, if anybody current, his game mimics a more aggressive style that Bosh plays, minus the mid-range game once again…

IknoBall12Participanthow good he can be at his size. im really wondering how he is goin 2 play at baylor next year.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/17/2010 - 2:37pm #356316
stanford hoopshe has one true problem and thats his drive. hes not the shooter rudy was nor is his overwall skills as polished but all of that can be fixed easily. the fire/drive not so much
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/17/2010 - 3:14pm #356355

Demarcus OnealParticipantHe will never be close ot as good as KG or like KG he has no passion for basketball KG is arguably the most passionate basketball player to play the game and the most aggressive so they might be similiar physically but please never compare him to KG he might be more talented at the same as KG was coming out of high school but KG is a hall of fame player and one of the best defensive players to ever play the game and defined intensity
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/17/2010 - 3:19pm #356361
stanford hoopsand there lies the problem. hes just as talented as alot of these nba stars were in hs and more talented then most but he doesnt have the passion/fire/drive. his drive reminds me of deandre jordans and if he doesnt step it up he could end up coming off the bench at baylor because those guys play with fire
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/17/2010 - 3:22pm #356366

dipt1982ParticipantThe only comparison I was making to KG is his tenacity attacking the basket. He needs to work on his heart/passion, and definitely his mid-range game to be anywhere near the full package KG is…
