    Perry Jones returning to school

    Associated Press

WACO, Texas — Baylor freshman standout Perry Jones is staying in school.

Long expected to be the Bears’ first one-and-done player, Jones instead Monday said he was returning to Baylor for his sophomore season.

The 6-foot-11 forward was the Bears’ highest-rated recruit and played up to the expectations. He averaged 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds while starting 30 games, a Baylor freshman record.

Jones will miss the first five games next season as part of an NCAA suspension for accepting improper benefits before he enrolled at Baylor.

An NCAA reinstatement committee last month upheld an earlier ruling that declared him ineligible for Baylor’s Big 12 tournament opener that the team lost to Oklahoma, ending the season for the Bears (18-13).

Glad to see he’s making the right choice. Going pro would have been a terrible idea. Maybe Baylor can play him at SG or SF where he belongs, instead of PF/C and in the low post where they were using him all year this year.

Baylor could be another team to watch next year with Miller and Bello coming in to play with Jones and Acy. They have a good JUCO guard named Pierre Jackson going there too who will contribute immediately.

This year’s draft is really looking like it’s gonna be terrible…haha. I hope to whatever religious higher power that David Kahn finds a way to get back the UNPROTECTED pick the Wolves owe the Clippers next year…

I thought he was in enough trouble (not real trouble, NCAA trouble, lol), that he would have to hightail it to the draft. But, since he is coming back next year, he just misses 5 games due to suspension and will play it out. Again, while I usually am all for a player going pro whenever they are a top pick, Perry will just be even more ready for when he finally decides to come out. He is a lottery pick whenever he enters, and if he becomes more assertive the sky is the limit. I still project him to be a 4 in the NBA, but playing with Quincy Miller they should hopefully have another NCAA Tourney bid and a strong season in the Big 12 (10, whatever). They will definitely have two of the more intriguing NBA prospects in the country, and they have some solid contributors returning as well, not to mention a favorite of this board due to his highlight capability in Deuce Bello.

WTF!!!!!!!! say it aint so?????? this draft will be a very crazy one to try & mock especially due to the fact that a lot of 2nd Round talent will go in the 1st SHEESH!!!!!!!

Now the draft class is slightly less rich at POWER FORWARD.  Because PJ IS a Power Forward.

LOL at him playing at the SG/Sf where he belongs. He shows some Sf skills but very little( half court wing game is below average, no range on his jumper, has trouble checking wing players) and he has no Sg ability so i won’t even mention that( sounds like the Sg/SF thing was based off of highlight tapes in AAU and not college or games).  Glad he made the decision to come back though

Baylor is officially a team to watch out for. I think they did addition by subtraction with Lacedarius Dunn. The addition of Quincy Miller and Duece Bello gives them a perimeter scorer with size and a tremendous athlete. I cant believe Jones came back, but I cant wait to see Baylor in action. They also return Quincy Acy another tremendous athlete. Their only problem is point guard. They could definitey use a upgrade at that position.

Basically its like most drafts..Full of role players just like the Draft where kenyon Martian went number one( yeah some people are either to young or forgot that thatdraft didnt light the NBA on fire)

Or last years draft before they played( there was Blae and then everyone else was considered basic starters for the ost part

At least since he’s coming back, Baylor won’t try to ruin Quincy Miller and make him play in the low post.

     Two Things

This makes the 2012 draft that much deeper and Baylor will have one of the most versatile duo between Quicy and Perry

I don’t know if it is the right choice or not because his stock could drop. On the other hand, I don’t see how it could get much higher. Now if it is about the numbers he made the right choice because I think Dunn was too much of a ballhog and they will be automatically better next year with him gone. If Perry averages 21 pts 10 rebounds and 5 assist next year he still will not go any higher than #1. If his measurements and workouts were great this year he had a chance to go #1.

Its a good choice and a bad one either way. His stocked dropped by the end of the year with scouts saying he could have gone number 5( before the season he was a lock for number 1) so he could raise his stock. on the other hand he could also lower it by showing even more inconsistant play and lack of post skills along with the same jumper andhandles he showed this pass season

Hopefully Perry can live up to his potential because he might regret not coming out this year. He’s one of those prospects that the best thing going for them is potential and hope. Honestly, I just don’t see him flipping some switch, but I hope he can because next year is going to be stacked, and I could see him being a low lottery pick at best next if he doesn’t step it up.

This is looking like it’s going to be one of the weakest drafts ever. College basketball is going to be great next year though.

This is really shocking.  With the unfair treatment and the punishment from the NCAA, I would expect Perry Jones to just go ahead and declare for the draft.  His potential and talent alone would have gotten him top 10 for sure given this draft is so weak.  This 2011 draft looks pretty horrible with so many top players skipping it.

I guess BC was smart to trade the heat pick for James Johnson.

with that type of stats Baylor would be final 4 level team..and both guys would be front runners for number 1 pick.

Lets see they lose one player and return the rest of the team. Each of those guys will be a year better and you think he’s gonna come in and average 20ppg. More than just about every top freshman that has ever played in the Big12

i think both Perry and Quincy will get around 16ppg and knowing that they are playing together it would be enough to lock as a top5 picks.

I’m guessing Miller will get about 14 with Acy around the same and Perry leading them in scoring. Miller will be sharing time with the other Jones and he’s no slouch
